Why destroy Earth? Therebe speculation here...

1) The engineer is a singular entity, otherwise just call in someone else to do the job no? Down one ship, surely there's more that could finish the job. The SJ on LV426 is likely to be this same one they stop
2) One SJ of many goes rogue
Actually a 3). One of the humans mutates into a SJ and loses it
Then there's the why. What are they/it so scared of? We must be, or our DNA, a danger to either ourselves or the engineers.

@ jedi master - I think thats a very interesting idea! Kinda hope it isnt true though.

@jedi
The loop hole with you theory is the 3 subsequent films where the company have been trying to obtain a specimen. It they created it they wouldnt need to collect

@thenextlv426
The company never created it. I think a member of Prometheus creates it as a weapon to kill the Sjs or whatever the Sjs are creating. Fight fire with fire so to speak.
I see the xeno morphs as a modern day dinosaur. A creature able to wipe out mankind.
As "Ash" staes in Alien..... "the perfect organism only matched by its hostility"
Also..
"Ash" also new of the xenomorphs existence in Alien. "All other protocols recinded.Bring back Lifeform"
As Ridley Scott has stated himself that only the last 7 or 8 minutes of Prometheus has any Alien Dna , this leads me to believe that the xeno morph is not created until the end of Prometheus. What creatures/transforming crew members we see throughout Prometheus will be something else.
just my opinion mind.

@thenextlv426
Not really.
We are talking about the "perfect organism only matched by its hostility" very hard thing to collect.
These Sjs or Sj creations are going to be on a par with the "Borg" from star treck but much much more......

"Only my opinion mind but does Peter Weyland not say in the "Ted" trailer that "We are the Gods now"?"
Weyland is refering to how he has created a artificial inteligent person. i.e the Synthetic Andriods like David.
The creation by us could be the Xeno, where the crews tampering and experimenting with the Jockeys Bio Forming Technology creates the Xeno or the Proto Xeno.
Maybe the Derelict leaves with the Canisters and no Eggs, but maybe somehow the Squid Baby gets on board that ship and infects the Jockey and then some other events after that leads to the creation of the Eggs, or if not the Squid maybe David or both?
We need to look at what Ridley said...
1) He made this movie to explore the Who was in the Chair, what was the Ship and its purpose, what was the Cargo and its purpose.
He never said for 100% sure but he always hinted in that he said "what if, or supose that Guy was a Space Suit, and the Eggs the Ships Cargo, a kind of Bio Weapon, the Derelict some kind of Bomber"
2) A very interesting qoute was when they said this movie will be how the Xenos "Mother met the Daddy" this to me sugests that the actual Xeno is created or indeed the Proto Xeno is created in this movie.
3) Ridley sugested the last 8 minutes of this film will clear up the connection to Alien, we will see the Alien DNA.
These are all very interesting things and may hold more clues than the actual mish mash of scenes in the trailers, i doubt Ridley would play or show scenes in a fasion that would get us to guess whats going on.
The trailers have hardly scratched the surface.

Again we need to pay close attention to what Ridley has said, and not the scenes in the Trailers....
The movie started as a direct prequel to Alien.... but then once you explained how the Xeno was created, who the Jockey was, what the Derelict was and its purpose. You then get to the last scene that shows the Derelict land/crash on LV426.
Do you show then the Chest Burster Scene... if so then there would be no scope for a Part 2 as Part 2 is Alien, if it does not show the Chest Burster scene then how do you do a Part 2 and a whole 2nd movie that must cover what happens between the Derelict landing on LV426 to when the crew of Nostromo found the Ship.
Thats why Ridley went and re did the Script so while it can tie up the connection to Alien, it would also have a more back bone Story to it and other events than just all about the Xeno from Alien. This would allow a open end so that a part 2 can explore a number of posibilties unrelated directly to the Xeno.
Hence maybe the Ancient Astronaught elements, the Prometheus tie in.
Prometheus was a Titan, the other Ancient Civilisations in movie show Egyption and Sumerian Tablets etc, then look at the figure in the cave painting.
They all depict God like Creators who resemble Humans only they stand about double our height.
Coinsidence that the Blue Guys/Engineers look Human?
These ancient beleafs all had Man created from Mud/Clay in the Gods own image.
The movies plot line is based around our search for the orgins of Mankind, but we could find our downfall.
Ridley also said the crew was hopping to find a civilised race, but find a race of Bio Mechanical beings doing things that are not civilised.
Read into that what you will.
But i think that it would point to that one Engineer had created us without the consent and maybe knowledge of his brothers....
Surfice to say when we turn up, they then know what one of their kind had been upto and when we start to mess about with their Technology or steal it, well that just gets them mad and then they decide we got to go

I wonder if the Jockeys are a dying race, hence the King dying bit. They are trying to save their race anyway they know how, and we upset the process so they decide to take it our on Earth.

@bigdave
its the chicken or the egg really isnt it ??
Did we create the Sjs or did they create us? I personally think that we created them.
Is it also coinsidence that we find a star map in some cave in Scotland(thats where im from by the way lol), travel to this far away planet and discover a space craft which seems dormant. I say dormant as we can clearly see the Prometheus crew wandering about initially with no sign of life.
No Gods in any culture are bio mechanical to my knowledge?
I get what your saying in regards to how a trailer is edited not to give away the story. BUT.........
Why make Peter Weyland English? Is this not to protray him as arogant?
"if you induge me,i would like to change the world" Do you have another explanation for whats said throughout the "TED" viral add?
The families in Aliens are terra forming the planet Lv223 and we know that the company havnt got there hands on any xeno morphs or Sjs at this time so the terra forming must of been PWs idea in the first place. Hence " if you indulge me i would like to change the world".

"If you indulge me,i would like to change the world"
The whole Ted viral add gives a lot away in my opinion.
Pw is protrayed to be an Englishman...Why??? Is this to show him as arogant?(im Scottish by the way lol)
I totally agree with Bigdave on a lot of things especially how Trailers are edidted to give a different picture, however some of the scenes easily give away part of the plot.
Shaw and Holloway discover a star map in Scotland, leave for a distant planet and discovers a dormant space craft with a big human like head. Coinsidence? Not likely!
Reminds me of the planet of the apes to tell you the truth.
All this talk of Terra forming........I ask you this..
In Aliens, human families are terra forming the planet Lv223 to make it habitable.
As we know that Weyland havnt gotten their hands on any Sj tech or xeno morphs at this time then was terra forming not Weylands idea in the first place?

Also the possibility that it's just human hubris to think that the jockeys care about humans or Earth at all. It's all assumption, on the part of the Prometheus crew, and apparently, much of the audience. Hubris will always assume that you are more important than you truly are. Just possibility.
We create our own destruction.
And, yeah, I think Jedi Master is one of the few that really gets it. The giant human head isn't explained by anything other than the idea that "we are the gods." Amazes me that so many people dismiss this.
On a small scale you see it starting with David--the idea that he can transcend his existence, or perhaps, become more human. On a larger scale, well, that can extrapolate a number of ways.

Yes I think the xenos are a form of bio-sterilant. A bit like using phage as an antibiotic (think they did that in Eastern European hospitals back in the day).
So it is plausable that the SJs use xenos to 'ready' planets for their uses.
Where do the Blue Man Group and the murals fit in..?
