Necronomicon IV
MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 7:13 PMAt least not in english anyway.
I hope the space jockeys don't even attempt to communicate with humans at all. I would find that much more frightening. I hope they are completely indifferent to us, they just use us for their experiments and stuff. Trying to communicate with the crew of the Prometheus would be like us talking to an intruding family of chipmunks. I find it would be unrealistic.
It could be cool if they had their own alien language though, as long as it is clearly non-human sounding.

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 7:32 PMI totally agree Necronomicon IV...this has vaguely come up a few times and I'm glad you made a thread of it.......I'm excited by that idea...it is teribly frightening to me to have this level of contact with a another race in a film on their planet, in such tight quarters and NOT be able to communicate with them....I love it....

If you listen to the directors cut at the start when the crew listen to the "beacon" being sent from the planet, it may give you some semblance of the the sound we will be expecting to hear in the SJ ship. It may not be them speaking but possibly may be re-used in some form

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:10 PMtrue Grindolf.....but I honestly hope there's nothing to hear...I think, if done right, that's just too creepy to want to mess with....

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:12 PM In the deleted scene from Alien, they do have a recording of the message.Quite scary and mysterious.

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:17 PMI'm glad somebody brought this up, actually I agree that the Space Jockey should not talk or communicate with humans, at least in the way we know.
How ever they should make at least a sound when they breathe, eat, hum or something; for me the original audio in the deleted scene now included in the director's cut is creepy as hell.
If the movie shows any sound from the space jockey it must be for a short time and very different from the usual sounds we hear from sci fi movies.
Sound must take a very important in creating the atmosphere of the movie

If has strange reverberating aspects to it and is very organic, I do want them to speak, obviously not English but some kind of language or at least make sounds. I think if the movie suddenly became a silent film with the people screaming being followed by Mute giants it would be unrealistic.
What their goal should be is to use strange sounds in new ways to create the "Alien" ascetic. If you watch a trailer for "Amnesia - Dark Descent" you will hear some monster sounds that I have heard a dozen times before but is always scary because its so unlinked to anything and unnatural.

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:22 PMAgreed Cryo and Grindolf....if any sounds are there, they should be that organic creepiness and no attempts at communication....

I'm pretty sure they befriend David in some manner, there will have to be some form of communication if that occurs, he is technically not organic so telepathy probably wont work and sitting there and scratching shit into the wall like a human trying to teach and ape sign language is also pretty stupid.
I believe they will speak audibly but its going to sound totally alien and hopefully creepy and horrifying

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:35 PMI don't know Grindolf...I just don't like that....it sounds silly to me.....whenever aliens talk to people it sounds silly...frankly the only time it hasn't was in the audio tape from 'The Fourth Kind' and that was not the greatest of movies......that had a very unsettling feeling to it...terrifying and creepy as hell...
...even that, seeing it come from a being might not come off looking right.....The key to the power of the signal in the deleted scene of 'Alien' and the audio tape from 'The Fourth Kind' is the absence of the sound's origin...the mental image that begs the question...what must it be that can audibly produce such blood curdling horror as that?
I would contend that whatever we do hear MUST not be seen originating from anything in front of the camera lens....it would most definately be to the film's detriment....

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:38 PMI think they will communicate telepathical way, transferring thoughts.

Cryo
MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:40 PMYes Grindolf, I do not see the SJ trying to communicate with hand signals either. If they are the creators or managers of such technology and biological knowledge they must have a superior way to communicate. By the other hand I do believe they must understand every form of human language.
I also do not see telepathy taking place in Alien Universe.

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:51 PMI also hope they don't talk, but depending on how it was executed, it could work for me if they communicated non-verbally by seriously messing with the minds of crewmembers.....but no "The Fury" exploding heads, please.

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 8:53 PMI hope that the space jockeys regail us with sidesplitting wit.

MemberOvomorphApr-15-2012 9:00 PMTotally agree with Necro's post ... no humanised sounds at all ... ALL alien like so we don't understand nothing ... no subtitles either ... we're not supposed to know what they are talking about because they are alien ... as said above ... more creepy not knowing ...
I'm sh!tting myself now ... let alone June 1st ...

They are humanoid, or we are SpaceJockanoids depending on your perception, but either way, they do have mouths, so they are probably going to say something...that or eat a hotdog. I believe in one of the leaked scripts the Space Jockey has a 13" long tongue and makes Shaw get all giggly and she has a mental flash forward of her riding his head and when she leaves the room we see the big tentacle tongue hit the window as in the trailer.
The only downside to my theory is that ... I wrote the leaked script whilst downing a bottle of absinth

Its probably a misnomer that the "Engineers" and the "Space Jockeys" are not the same people

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 3:43 AMThey could communicate by kicking everyones heads in lol.........could mean "HELLO" lol............id hate to see an argument lol

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 3:46 AMAgreed. I dont want them to speak either but really, there is no reason why they cant speak.

MemberDeaconApr-16-2012 7:54 AMTelepathical could be how they could do so.
I do agree that having then talk to the crew would take the edge of any potential fear factor with them.
They would have some means to communicate, i mean they left clues to us did they not?
They would have had some method to communicate with ancient civilisations.
And dont forget they have some kind of written Language (hieroglyphics)

MemberOvomorphApr-16-2012 8:09 AMWhat... No Star Trekkian "Universal Translator" fans here!!
Hahahaha... I do want to hear them make some kinds of unintelligible sounds though. Should be very bass-y, gutteral and sheeet disturbing.
Now I hate to mention this, but there IS a Weyland patent noted in the timeline for a bioorganic implant that allows for the translation of language without ANY LEARNING required on the part of the user.... So...that must be there for something as ALL of the other timeline notations are turning out one by one to de directly related to something in the film.
