Is Fox doing enough to promote Prometheus?

I haven't seen any TV ads and I've only seen the trailer attached to 1 film at the theater. Bare in mind I'm not referring to the viral campaign which is essentially for the fanboy or anything I've actively searched myself (first knew about this movie over 2 years ago) This film can't survive on fanboy base alone. I think if I wasn't a fan of Alien or Scott I might not even know this film is coming out. I saw and knew more about John Carter waaaaayy before it was coming out.
Just about 45 days before release, Fox should start getting their promotion into high gear.
Opinions?

I'd say i don't know anyone who hasn't heard about it from me. I don't watch a lot of tv on tv so i couldn't comment about that, but i imagine in the next month most magazines will be obliterated with it.
p.s. didn't John Carter totally flop....?

Given the fact there is still 47 days until the release of Prometheus I think Fox has done a pretty amazing job of marketing the movie. Aside from all the viral stuff think about the press articles that are already appearing. You look at any past blockbuster and ask yourself how many of those had the same marketing as Prometheus at this stage in it's pre release. No I think the film will do just fine

Hi,
difficult this one really, you don't want to ram it down peoples throats (just ask my mrs, and yes I mean Prometheus!!!) too soon, don't forget it's still over a month till release.
It's the first film I have ever come across to viral related topics of the film ie Weyland industries & David, which is a HUGE treat for us fans and I am sure will have got a few new fans by doing this. So you can't say FOX aren't thinking it through.
We had a Xmas teaser trailer which outshone both TDKR and the Hobbit trailers plus Q & A's which doesn't happen for all big releases.
Apparently they have shown the trailer plenty in cinema's just not when I go lol.
I would say 2 weeks before it will pop a lot more for the 'short attention span' generation!

It still well over a month till its release, Disney has to have avengers do good after the John Carter fiasco, and dark knight has some push due to it being a sequel, but i would say Prometheus already the third most noted movie for the summer, and we still have not had the late push that movies get.

The issue is simple. Do you go with a rated PG-13 blockbuster looking to make its money back? Or do you go with the art house treatment and shoot for the less profitable rated R summer movie? Obviously we all want Ridley's true and unaltered vision, but this is Fox we're talking about. The delay on marketing will cease as soon as a final cut is rendered and a rating decided.

I think they've done a spectacular job...first off, this viral campaign couldn't have created a more rabid fanboy reaction and from the numerous articles I've read, it has attracted a very high level of general movie fan interest....
2nd, I did see a few tv commercials immediately following the release of the three major trailers in March and read that these were broadcast in a number of extremely popular shows during season ending episodes such as 'The Walking Dead' to drum up interest.......have also read that as the final months and weeks approach, the TV campagin will ramp up....

personally, i feel that traditional TV commercials are
VERY underrated as a means to promote a film to the
masses at large these days
i agree with most folks on these boards about just how cool
and equally brilliant the viral web campaign is, but i feel that
running enough trailers on TV, during high profile shows is
the best way to make PROMETHEUS stand out
but, buying that kind of high-priced airtime is NOT what
a major studio like Fox would be willing to do. i have seen a
couple of TV spots for PROMETHEUS a while back, but other
than that, i haven't seen a trailer for this film in a while
i think the studio system relies too heavily on web marketing
to promote film, and to a certain extent it does work, but not
all the time

Its too early to say but I do hope it really picks up soon, I want this movie to be advertised everywhere on the last week before release.
April 22, 2012
Yes....
Ask yourself how much you know about other summer titles like The Dark Night Rises or Spiderman?
Advertising and marketing costs a fortune so it has to be done at the right time. If the general public see trailers on TV 3 months before a film is released, a) it will cost a fortune and b) the hype will be over before the film is released.
Fox are doing it right with lots of viral releases to build excitement before the main advertising starts.

The Viral Campaign i think will hot up even more soon.
i liked the Cloverfield one, many movies may start to take advantage of such stuff nowadays.
I cant wait for a Cloverfield 2 and i am sure the Virals for that would be great.
As for this movie, it has a lot of Viral marketing, but i guess those who have not a clue what Alien is or paid much attention to Alien would pretty much not know a fat lot about this movie.
Maybe Ridley is doing it on purpose, so when people who have no idea this is a Alien prequel or even related to Alien see the Trailers and think "urm that looks a interesting movie, i may check it out"
If they went OTT on the Adverts and Virals and connection with Alien would be drawn, i.e many none Alien Fanboys would then know that the Weyland company in this movie is from the Aliens.
What if they think... "oh a movie based on Aliens, well i never liked those movies much"
This is a catchment area of potential fans who may then give the movie a miss.
Ridley wants the movie to stand on its own, and not be considered just another Alien movie.
the Fanboys like us all on here, who would know what Weyland Yutani was if we was asked on the Streets. Or if Two years ago we was shown a concept image for this movie that shows the Derelict or Space Jockey Chair, we would know what it was.
Most other people on the streets would not have a clue what those images was or what Weyland was...
But if shown a image of a Alien Xeno most would indeed recognise that.

Among other things, television spots will ramp up once a final cut of the film starts generating some big time review quotes. I've seen nothing but confidence in the film by the studio and filmmakers, so now it's just a matter of finalizing the product and bragging about the results.
You can bet that reviewers are wondering the most if Ridley Scott has indeed delivered upon his science fiction legacy, and if that is the verdict, those quotes will be everywhere leading up to the film release.
I guess I'm just anticipating a rising build to the orgasm of the premiere.
And all discussion aside, the trailers have been absolutely brilliant. The people responsible for this huge aspect of marketing have secured their jobs for a long long time. Maybe I'm biased, but seriously, those are absolute A-game efforts.
