Weyland in contact with Engineers before Prometheus Launches

Peter Weyland makes more technological advances more quickly than any single individual I can think of. I think he had help from the Engineers.
I was speculating in another thread that we are just raw materials for the Engineers biomechanics. If we start with the premise that the Engineers are completely amoral and long lived if not undying, then every few hundred years or so, a small group of them on earth contact humanity and give them the necessary technology to make the next leap forward to reach the next level of population density.
The human race has reached a level of population density that justifies the resources necessary to harvest us, but a technological level that poses no threat. Peter Weyland is given the technological advances to sustain our numbers indefinitely, knowledge of FTL travel, and the clues hidden throughout history pointing to the Engineer harvesters lying in wait for just this opportunity.
Once a ship arrives at the harvester site, they infect/kill the crew, track where they are from and return to the fields for harvest.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Put in Weyland in the search box.... Hell put in weird, topic has been beaten to death.

I'm not sure of this, but remember how Ridley mentions for the premise of the film, that humans have developed/acquired such advanced technology in a century, is fair to think that we may had a little help along he way. Is the same question as in CONTACT, what waste of space if we are alone.
In History Channel, I saw an interesting episode on the theory about nazis getting an UFO and how german scientists were using reverse engineering to develop an air propulsion system. Many german scientists fleed to USSR after WW2 and then they made a huge step in nuclear and space technology.
So yes..........Weyland could have a little help from his blue friends...but perhaps he didn't know yet.

There will be a big twist with him no doubt. One part of the mission that is questionable is the secrecy of the mission to even the crew. They are, undoubtedly, the best and brightest minds at his disposal but he keeps the secret from even them until they are at the SJ planet.Wouldn't first contact be the greatest achievement in history?Would an ego like Weylands' care about the negative impacts on society? There is another motive that he has that we do not know about.

@Cryo: You have it backwards dude. The German scientists fled to the US, not the USSR. No German wanted to go to the USSR after the war, because they were hated for the atrocities German soldiers commited there. Wernher Von Braun became head of the US Space Program after the German scientists went to the US. The communists used some Germans who didn't flee to make an improved V2 but that's it. They had to build most of their rockets from there and the USSR Space Program was mostly the work of Sergei Korolev.

The kicker may be that one of the Earth bound engineers breaks that civilization's oldest taboo and gives a crop species the ability to create sentience, albeit purely mechanical sentience.
The Prometheus myth isn't for us, it's a cautionary tale for the engineers on our planet.
And if the movie is nothing like this, I will probably still love it.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Ideas:
Weyland wants to be God, steals the Engineer's technology for making worlds, each one of those canisters in the 'big head room' hold enough building blocks to start life on an entire planet.
How's that sound?
April 23, 2012
@vertigo
That's also possible, but it would require in depth foreknowledge of what he could expect when he got there. Even an egomaniac would not spend that many billions of dollars on a hunch.
He would have to somehow know what kind of technology he was going to steal. This could only be possible if he were in contact with Engineers, rogue or otherwise, before the prometheus project even began. Which means we agree... I'm intrigued....
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Kronnang you are totally right about the germans fleeing to America and the
works of Korolev, but that is the whole point of the theory. It doesn't matter who did it first, the basis of the theory is that both USA and USSR launched their programs based on the works or info from german scientist who had access to "unseen " technology.
But again...it is not a fact just a theory.........just like the movie....stealing the knowledge from the gods.........eating an apple from the forbidden tree....

WWII did a lot to push humanity technologically in ways that it may not have achieved in many fields of science. Radar was invented and used to track German planes flying towards Britain, etc. Epic global wars tend to send civilization(s) into an overdrive/turbo mode almost as if there was some "invisible" intervention. Some call it the "Human Spirit" to survive.

"In History Channel, I saw an interesting episode on the theory about nazis getting an UFO and how german scientists were using reverse engineering to develop an air propulsion system."
Remember when the History Channel used to have actual history on it? Those were the days.

Now they have this guy...

lol....
Yeah the guy does make some poor points but good ones.
For every one of him, there is 100 religous nutjobs on Youtube. Some even say the Moon is fake its a Hologram, the dinosaurs are fake, the images that the suposed space missions take of planets etc is fake.
And all faked by the NWO and the Devil.... lol

As far as the Prometheus Myth.
I think it will tie in with what the crew do, and what the Engineers do, its two fold.
Just like the "a king has his reign, then he dies" thats spoken by Vickers
The above could be in regards to the Engineer race, but also towards Weyland.

That's one of the most cryptic, open ended and crucial lines we've heard so far. Who is it said to? In what context?
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

You're like the people who say the ancient Egyptians were too stupid to build the pyramids and therefore aliens must have helped them. Some people are just smarter than the average bear. Deal with it.
On a related note, why would the space smurfs, if they were in contact with Earth recently need to coax humans into outer space just to wipe them out? Why not, I dunno, wipe them out when they came all the way out there to visit? I can just see them hovering about the earth in their smurfship saying, "Wow, these guys look about ready to pick. We should infiltrate their society and encourage them to develop space travel so they can follow the subtle clues we have left behind and journey to our planet so that we know they are ready to pick." Who knows, maybe the space smurfs are just that dumb.
April 23, 2012
@"Takka"... none of this has ever been proven regarding the Pyramids there is a lot of unexplained stuff you are leaving out.

@ Takka
Attacks ad hominem do absolutely nothing to validate the views of the one making them. It is more productive and mature to fully read the premises on which an argument is based, and attack them within the known parameters of the prometheus story.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Takka: On a related note, why would the space smurfs, if they were in contact with Earth recently need to coax humans into outer space just to wipe them out?
Me: If we start with the premise that the Engineers are completely amoral and long lived, if not undying, then every few hundred years or so, a small group of them on earth contact humanity
Takka: Why not, I dunno, wipe them out when they came all the way out there to visit? I can just see them hovering about the earth in their smurfship saying....
Me: I am working from the widely accepted idea that the humanoid character infected near the waterfall is a member of ancient humanity infected by an Engineer, and our race advanced specifically due to that intervention/infection, but there weren't enough to harvest then.
Takka: "Wow, these guys look about ready to pick. We should infiltrate their society and encourage them to develop space travel so they can follow the subtle clues we have left behind and journey to our planet so that we know they are ready to pick." Who knows, maybe the space smurfs are just that dumb.
Me: I am working from the premise that each culture with a tablet was created by the small group of Engineers left on Earth, and humanity as a whole pushed toward maximum output at every crucial point in history until the quota had been reached. Then they directed us to the harvester planet.
No known form of transmission would beat the Prometheus there. The ship is the message.
I am only speculating that this is true within the confines of the fictional prometheus universe, not that it is historical fact.
