“The crew of the Prometheus thinks they’re headed to paradise to discover answers to the ultimate questions. But what they find is a dark and twisted and frightening world – a way station for these beings,” adds Jon Spaihts. “The cold and implacable environment is more like hell than heaven.”"
This rises a new question: why the archeological "clues" found on Earth point to a distant outpost and not to the homeworld of the "gods".
I´m under the forming conviction that something unexpected happened on Earth. I´m starting to think that the "Prometheus" crew will not "steal" anything from the SJ´s outpost in Zeta Reticuli system; on the contrary; something was given to us back on Earth, and our arrival at the SJ´s outpost instantly informs this race of a likely betrayal. In fact I think that an Engineer, for wathever reason, deranged the ongoing experiment on Earth, giving birth to mankind. And this was probably unexpected from the SJ´s stance.
In this case, I can´t help but wonder about the reason for the Engineers hostile response to the fact of our existence. I can only think about one explanation: the background of "Prometheus" (and probably "Alien") universe is that intelligence is exceedling rare. Remember that when the Nostromo´s crew find the Derelict, Ash says that "Mother" never saw something like it. I believe Ash wasn´t talking about the specific Derelict design, but the whole idea of a nonhuman spaceship.
But the scarcity of intelligence don´t mean it must be cultivated, from the Engineers point of view; it means the emergence of a rival in their ecological niche. That´s the reason they go to destroy us.
