derelict ship

Does anybody have any idea of what the propulsion system is or would be for the alien derelict? I have looked online ever since the advent of the internet and never found any info. the answer was never stated in alien. So I am open to all possibilities. Thanks, Robert

I'm just guessing on an antigravitational system to get it into orbit. The ship in Prometheus seems to just rise up like a floating ballon.
Maybe then they access wormholes? And jump from place to place?
It just seems there's no obvious emission or intake portals.

Actually, no, I haven't seen anything in regards to it either. Good question :-D

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

Welcome to the fold, at this point it's unknown what type of propulsion if any it's used by the Space Jockeys/Engeneers perhaps some form of gravity manipulation?

Teleportation - or something that resembles "gating" from one place to another without evident acceleration.
Evidence? None, but I point to the following inspiration:
The ship isnt aerodynamic, and has no visible means of propulsion, so doesn't need to rely on either of these to do this job.
Prometheus looks a lot like some of the original Chris Foss concept art for Alien, and in a key illustration showing ship and temple on a desert planet under alien skies, a donught cloud formation is seen lit from within by a bright (blinding?) light.
As Prometheus flies above LV-223 atmosphere, lightning flashes through the clouds below. A donught cloud formation is seen lit from within by a bright lightning.
I propose this (some may say overused trope) as a way to distinguish between humanity, and its clearly inferior transpo technology (cryosleep?) and a clearly superior alien species.
Besides, if you'll buy focused anti-gravity fields, you have to give teleportation a chance...

A mystery we probably won't get any definitive answer for. A gravity or teleportation drive would be silent, but presumably, the gigantic iris that opens up to allow the croissant to take off, would make a crap-ton of low frequency noise, as would the drives of the Prometheus which are apparently activated almost simultaneously.

Perhaps those three portals that Dallas, Lambert and Kane would walk through later on down the time line are in some way an internal conductor, extrator, exhaust ports which channel through the technical arteries of the ship. Maybe, the ship 'breathes' in a way. The SJ ship maybe 'breathes' its way around from place to place. Maybe.
