MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 8:56 PMHi all, okay maybe it has been discussed, maybe not. I just viewed the ship we'll see in Prometheus and I am certain that it is different from the derelict in Alien. I am certain because I viewed the ship we'll see in Prometheus and compared it to the model I have of the derelict seen in Alien and noticed that the hammerhead side of the ship in Prometheus is different from the hammerhead side in Alien. The Alien ship hammerhead was rounder, as opposed to the one in Prometheus, which has a arc type shape AND a leading type edge along the front. In addition I also noticed one other difference and that would be the Alien derelict hammerhead curves upward and inward. The ship in Prometheus does not seem to do this, at least not in the image I viewed on this website. Furthermore, for reference I referred to my 1979 book, The Art of Alien. Lastly, I triple checked by viewing several image stills of the original derelict used in the filming of Alien. One theory that would allow the two ships to be the same would be if the ship are in fact bio mechanical and are therefore able to alter its shape.

No. That is pushing prometheus concept way too much. Just saying...
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 9:42 PMI think it was simply a redesign for the movie. The new one seems a lot more sinister and intimidating than the original. It looks like they took most of the Giger elements and streamlined them a bit, possibly to place this story more in its own unique reality? Probably something to do with Giger himself not being involved for whatever reason? Or maybe they chise to make the alien tech they're showing is much newer, relatively. Looks great, however you slice it.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 10:29 PMThe number one outstanding proble that I see with this theory is that if this and the ship we see in Alien are one and the same then why no one ever found any of the temples or structures we see in Prometheus in Alien or Aliens?! Obviously a bunch of colonist running around on the surface of LV-426 would had found these structures. This ship and the Derelict in Alien are two different vessels on two different planets. And NO there won't be any time traveling or warping trough gates, this is the Alien Universe not Prometheus SG-1.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 10:37 PMI'm with fog bank. We're talking multiple juggernauts here.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 11:32 PMCould it be that RS is just re writing history a bit for the sake of story/ aesthetic/ no Giger/ or modern times? I'm not put off with a re imagining of the whole tale, so long as it's RS doing it. That said, I'm down with multiple Juggernauts, each with its own surreal horror story at its core. I love the idea of these guys roaming the universe perpetrating terrible bio industrial accidents in the name of God knows what. Maybe their truth is that the creation of life is brutal beyond mortal comprehension? Back on topic, maybe the Derelict is an antique, or a newer, more awkward model. Like most cars these days.

MemberOvomorphMay-24-2012 4:49 PM Both designs are different. I also want to make it clear to those who think that the ship in Alien is the same one in Prometheus. They are two different ships, on two different planets, or planetoids. That is one of the reasons the shapes look different. You also have to take in considation that the ship in Alien, looks like it suffered a crash landing. It seems to be broken in half.
