If you take Ridley's comments seriously, that the original derelict was simply transporting some alien eggs when one of them got loose, there isn't much of a story there. So, it makes more sense to just explain who the engineers are in a stand alone story which is more interesting.

You´re right. Looking this way, "Alien" could be a "webisode" in a much larger story arc.

I think of it this way...Prometheus is a car dealership....Alien is one of those cars that broke down in the middle of nowhere..that relationship, that perspective

With the Avengers out in theaters, I was wondering, isn't Bruce Banner kind of Weyland himself? Wouldn't the Hulk pretty much squish the Engineers, Predators and Aliens? If one of the crew members got transformed into something resembling the Hulk, would it really be that far off?

Maybe Prometheus is a Spin-Off On the other hand, the holograms may deliver clues about the Derelic and what appears to be the extinction of most of the race
