Where is that on Earth?

On the Prometheus "Star Map' app on Facebook, each week we are shown a pictogram and a location on Earth. (The pictogram and the location don't match. That's OK. I don't think they are suppose to.)
What I want to know is where does the map in week-2 point to?
The others are obvious. This one is not.
Thanks.

Nah guys, neither Antartica, Salt lake, Washington or else.
it's somewhere in Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan, prob near the Aral Sea... Baikonur maybe, if that makes any sense in that game?
The projection is uncommon. Using Google earth (or maps in 'earth' mode - need a sphere in planar projection, not a 2D map) you have to place yourself right above Vilyuyskiy in Siberia.
...or you can just type in " Vilyuyskiy, Sakha, Russia "
Unzoom to frame all of earth, then you either turn your head sideways until you have a revelation or you can spin earth on it's center point in that projection. For that, careful... holding the middle-mouse button *over the center point* on Vilyuyskiy, scroll sideways only (should be left) until you have the barely noticeable Europe pointing in the top left corner.
Et voila! there you have it.
Hope it helps

It is not Antartica. You can flip it any which way you want! It looks nothing like it.
It's not Egypt.
The maps do not line up with the artefact/pictogram.
Show me a map where that looks anything like Egypt.
Sheesh!

Antaaaaaaaarcticaaaaa!! Uh oh, mission control centre Antarctica!
Ok, got carried away a bit... apologies.

XenophobiaMay 08, 2012
If memory serves right isn't that where the crew of the Nostromo call back for mission control as its shown in a scene.

Maybe its the formation of Antaaaaaaaarcticaaaaa!! back when Lovecraft envisioned "At the Mountains of Madness"

Id Rather Be Eatin Something ElseMay 08, 2012
There's a shot of some rock formations I KNOW I recodnise from varied documentries I have seen that are most definately in Mexico. But as to whether that bears relevance to your observation remains to be seen...

What, I had Washington down pat with it's apparant Free Mason/priory of Zion encoded supposed 'lay-out' of the city avenues in an apparant pentograph? Is that right? I think it is? Hence why there is a great smaking building called the Pentagon in and/or around the area.
Faling that, there's always Detroit! heh! By definition and evidence if you just go there, it is a 'ruinous' city if ever I saw one! lol!

dare i say the dreaded words...?...."Mrs. Yutani" It points to that Evil Biaaaatch taking a shower in a real sleezy part of Downtown Tokyo!

That pictogram was discovered in Detroit, the deserted ruins of Amerika! Sherry and Hollawella found it buried in the concrete rubble of a long deserted hotel right off of Jefferson Ave. Reports indicate they also discovered an unidentified homeless person frozen in an elevator shaft wearing a Ted Nugent concert tee.

bravo iapetus, that is correct - you're basically looking at mainland Russia from above!
these guys might as well be on lv-8675309

iapetus:
This may be asking for much, but could you take a Google Earth screen-shot and post it?
I'm trying everyting I can, but I can't frickin' see it!
(Or I just can't figure out how to do it properly.)

iapetus is spot on!
This was already discussed when the pictogram was published.

NOTE: the slight difference over Northern Canada is because the small projection on the pictogram depicts the ice around the north pole.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

http://witcombe.sbc.edu/menkaure/menkaurematriliny.html Like I said... it is Egypt, but then what do I know, I only teach history, alot of you guys think you know it all... I used to come here for news, now I just come here to read the rediculousness...

iapetusMay 09, 2012
@Ripleys-Knickers
oh dude, come on... At least make an effort on your own arguments before calling others 'know-it-all' or 'ridicule'.
Haven't you had a look at the screenshots/explanations NoXWord and I gave?
The earth globe's projection in NoXWord's post is spot on the exact same projection shown on the game's image.
How would you have the nerves to deny that in such way while pretending one could see Egypt there? If I read you right, your only argument is based on the date. My own job makes me pretty confident the plates and coast-lines weren't changed much over the last 2500 years and Egypt wasn't the only emerged land back then, so it leaves a broad range of other geographical possibilities IMO. ...the one bringing consensual acceptance being Aral Sea/Baikonur, it seems.
Come with well supported arguments and a nice way to provide them and you'll prob. find a friendlier reception.
PS: I really like the nickname btw, and most def have wanted to sniff you since we first met when I was a child... ;)
