Am I the only one...

After a year of following the creation of this movie, in participating in forums such as this, in revelling in the trailers and teasers and clues and puzzles surrounding this much anticipated film, I was saddened by what I saw.
Maybe this is the wrong forum to discuss this any further, so I won't.
Oh well.
(Sorry, should have seen the 'Dislike Reviews' furom to the left. I was a tad too impatient in my posting.)

go see it again in an IMAX theater if you can. Much better. Made for that. After my third viewing the only disappointing moment was the quick edit back to Halloway right after the Hammerpede jumped out of Milburn's dead body. It was like, 'wait a minute! what was THAT!'

What really killed this movie was the writing. It was very sub par. I think the writers had some idea of what themes they wanted to cover but didn't have the technical ability to explore them. It was really disappointing, especially for fans of the original Alien films.

I guess there are many different reasons that disappointed some or many.
You have to remember just as the Star Wars Prequels there was a very high bar set with regards to the Alien Franchise and indeed Ridleys Blade Runner and Alien, even if Ridley decided to not do a prequel but a Alien 5 it would be very hard for the movie to match or better Alien/Aliens.
The Hype and the Iconic Nature of the Alien Franchise and the masterpieces of Alien and Blade Runner already set a very high bar/standard.
To me the movie seemed to not flow well, after the first hour. It seemed that up until after Holloway and Shaws love scene the movie flowed ok, maybe the added Elder Engineer scene would have added more and maybe if there was a scene where David and Weyland had a conversation i.e just before Vickers confronted David (Try Harder Scene). Those two scenes would have added to the movie.
But to me it seemed like we was only 1/3rd through the story/plot and then it seemed like the other 2/3rds was covered in 1 hour and thus it seemed rushed.
I guess it would be like after doing the scripts to the Star Wars Prequels and then being told, they had to fit it all in one 2.5 to 3 hour movie or LOTR Trilogy having to be cut down to a single 4-5 hour movie.

Primustheus,
Seeing this again in IMAX will not, in any way shape or form, make it better.
Seeing a bad film on a bigger screen, just makes it a bad film on a bigger screen!
I saw this in 3D.
Two more dimensions than most of the charecters in it!

Snark, you are far from the only one because even if the movie did not have to live up to a high bar; this movie is at the same level or below Event Horizon.
Surprisingly, it has made the most money domestically of all the Alien movies and it will cross over 100 million in the next ten days. Also it already has earned over 220 million worldwide so another 40 million and a sequel (unfortunately if made at the same caliber with idiotic writers for its idiotic screenplay) is inevitable.
I was re-watching Aliens and Alien3 last night and I amazed on how much they both kick Prometheus arse. (using the UK version lol)

RS should have just scared the crap out of us, then try to tackle religion on a universe scale, Especially with subpar script writing ....

Well for me it had all the ingredients in there to surpass all the films previous including alien . The film had a decent budget, all the actors were of the highest calibre , The director is one of the best in Hollywood . The art direction was second to none, the editor Pietro Scalia is considered one of the best in the biz... jfk, gladiator, good will hunting, black hawk down, etc the whole team behind this was first class, and yet the most important ingredient was neglected contrary to some peoples opinions. The consensus from the majority is mixed and on the whole far to many people are criticising the script, and pacing of the film, they cant all be wrong! and even if they were or didn't understand this supposedly deeply layered script, if people are not satisfied with it then that poses a concern and should be addressed .
My own opinion is precisely that, its a great looking film as one would expect with ridley and arthur max in the saddle, but the pacing and character development lets the film down quite a bit, and for those reasons its not anywhere like as satisfying as i would of hoped for, and i understand all these so called agendas and hidden meaning, most of which doesn't require any deep contemplation whatsoever as most of the so called subtleties are understood in the course of watching the movie and paying attention, i'm not going to patronise anyone's intellect there, yet it Is a dazzling, beautiful, film but it has its faults, and to deny these is akin to seeing it through rose tinted glasses alongside your 3d ones.
