Why Alien Universe?

MemberOvomorphMay 09, 20122151 Views37 RepliesIts kind of obvious that RS is wanting to continue with this genre style but not to head down the Alien as we know (Xeno) route etc.
He has also confirmed that there will be no cameos etc and no direct links to Xeno origins etc etc in the film and seems to get sick at times about being asked.
Is the use of the "universe" with no intention to hit on the Xeno side etc a little odd if there is at least no long term or short term intention of links or cameos directly linking in an obvious way?
Would it not have been better to be a new universe, different company, differing alien ship etc etc and just likened to be like Alien?
Is the Alien universe thing just a selling gimic etc?
Don't get me wrong it looks awesome and ill be going to see it but im a little disappointed that the extent of the connection is not showing the Xeno early stages or even creation if they are not natural etc.

Thanks azalard
This is true, there may well be reasons either not already apparent (spoilers) or that I/we have missed, hence my post.
This is a movie, not an MMO game or real universe that has to have other content etc.
This could (IF no direct connection to the Alien movie's) have been an all new sci-fi horror based on the atmosphere and suspense the director is capable of creating.
That said it still seems a great movie in its own right and may yet as thankfully pointed out by some in this thread showing that people see 2 coming together that essentially set the ball rolling for Alien.
I'm not asking for Xeno's in the shadows as such or even to see how the chest burst space jockey came to be. Id be happy to see that of coarse but I'm just the same to see only what 2 things came to engineer them or discover them and for that to be apparent/clear.
I think asking the question has at least got me some answers in term of the comments about mummy and daddy hehe.

Otto...I'd love to, but that would be censorship I can't even condone.
Thanks Mizere....

because this film started as a prequel but turned into something different as new ideas came to fruition and the drive to do something new and challenging. -IMO

There is something in the movie that he said we can use to imagine how the xeno came to be, but there will not be an actual appearance of the xenos we know. He did say this movie will include 8 min to tie in with alien and that it also explained how mommy meets daddy (whatever that means)

What if the Xeno was a mistake? Something that was created but cannot be uncreated. The SJ could have been trying to find a desolate spot to safely dispose of them? Like our chemical weapons, much of it is so dangerous that normal methods of disposal cannot be used (unless sending it to the sun is an option). I rather enjoy this new direction into the new Alien universe. I realize and absolutely love the Alien series, but it's story has been told (except for their true origins). Lets expand on this canvas and explore the Engineers story, Earths rise to power in the cosmos, and all the nasty things they encounter along the way.

Because it's a big universe with more than Ripley's story in it.......... Thankfully.............

I wonder how frustrated Giger must feel sometimes:
Alien Fans: "Wooow, totaly Xeno and facehuggers and Gigers' Alien thingys and woooow Xeno rocks the sh*t out of everything..."
Giger: "you know... I do have other works that... I have done... want to see them?"

I already covered my views on the changes they make.
You see if they went the whole direct prequel route...
i.e land on LV426 or this planet LV223, meet the last Space Jockey.
The movie shows how either.... Mutated Holloway, David 8 Mutated by the SJ Fire, Shaws Baby or something else was the progenitor to the Xeno in this movie or we see the Eggs created and planted in this movie within this movies time line...
Then where does Ridley go next? As the next step is Alien, unless he does another movie set in the middle but then that could be a bit pointless.
Alien and the universe was not about just the Xeno...
Yes questions would be...
1) What are the Xeno, why was they created?
2) Why was they on that Derelict and what for.
3) Where was it going and what happened to the Pilot.
These i feel will be answered.
But then we had....
1) Who are the Space Jockeys, how many are there. What becomes of them and are there any left.
2) What else does these Space Jockeys create, what else would they have as far as Technology i.e the Derelict.
3) Weyland Corp and maybe Yutani, the orgins behind those companies, their Tech, their aspirations and agendas.
These 3 things are areas that could be explored in more depth.
I beleave therefore that they are giving us a red herring either...
1) This will be a near direct prequel...
2) People will think it may be, but we would not see no Xeno Orgin occur in this movie, but it will be explained as being created and for what purpose a long time prior to 2090.
Ridley did hint that we would get our answers as far as the Derelict and its Cargo on LV426 and we would see Alien DNA in that 8 min scene. So as far as this movie not being a link...
They mean the plot that evolves around Shaw and the rest of the crew will not be a direct link to Alien.
My seeing no Xeno as in Alien one, we would not see that but i feel we would see Eggs, and maybe even one open.... wether we would see a Face Hugger, or a Space Jockey getting Face Hugged by the Xeno FH and then Chestbursted i dont think we would.
If Ridley was going to go for a stand alone movie that has no connections at all....
Then he could have done this movie and its plot...
But replace Weyland with some other made up Corp, and replace the Space Jockey with some other being and not have a Derelict that looks simular to the one in Alien.

A, "Universe", is very large thing. A thing that is without any limits, at all: as we understand the concept.
That is the point: there is more to a, "Universe", than a xenomorph in a shadow?
There is no need at all to decide on another Universe, if Ridley decides to look in a different direction within the limitless one he has.
I say let the xeno go.
Perhaps Ridley is turning your head to something more interesting.

Free the xeno!

Wait, have we agreed to disagree or agree?

Hahaha.
Erm...I don't know.
I'll rephrase: "let the whole idea and concept of the xenomorph go - and stop seeking it".

Oops! I think that's a cameo...

"Is the Alien universe thing just a selling gimic etc?"
Really?...we have to explain here that the SpaceJockey, of 'Alien' fame, is the center of this film?
How in the world does anyone not understand that this rightfully exists in the Alien universe? How can it be a gimmick, when the entire FRAKKING point of the movie is to answer the one question left from 'Alien' that no one, somehow thrugh three sequels, never even thought to approach?
enough said....
