SO...what happens to Wrinkly Weyland?

POSSIBLE EXISTING SPOILERS IN THEORY....So Weyland is on his ship. A man in his position and with his ambition, having a choice of spending his remaining years on earth or being first to experience and get his hands on alien technology..well, it's no choice really. The David8 model on board is pre programmed for Weyland and is protecting the old man and his scheme. Weyland has made him more of an artificial son than a standard model. When they touch down and it's established that there is indeed a ship on the planet, David is tasked with deciphering how the tech works, including how to navigate and fly the vessel. The bio-helmet (complete with head inside) they recover is scanned, and from it, information gained as to how to replicate the technology. During the mission, tension flares between Vickers and David. Vickers is aware that her father seems to care more for his creation than her. Whilst chaos ensues around them with the crew that Weyland sees now as more expendable than useful, Weyland plans to be taken to the temple by David and steal the ship and pilot it to earth. He wants to be like Prometheus and steal the fire from the gods. He says as much to Vickers who warns him, " If you go down there, you'll die". Weyland has learnt a great deal from the impregnation of Shaw and the effects of the alien bio material on his human crew. Under the cover of all the fighting, David takes Weyland and fits him into the juggernauts pilot chair using the adapted helmet they have built using the advanced 3d printing devices on board (Weyland built of course). He's a little small for it..but they've made some adaptations and the chair "blends" with it's new pilot. At this point, as David is setting the path for Earth (having found the globe in the vast 3d star map)...the ship starts to launch, but the ENGINEER (a being created by the original SJ's, who turned on them savagely), which Weyland and David believed was occupied assaulting the Prometheus (something that David8 facilitated by letting it on board to finish off the crew who were wise to his plan), enters the chamber.... David has previously encountered the engineer in the chamber whilst examining the star map and in a spine tingling encounter, it chose (?) not to harm him...possibly seeing him as a non-sentient being, however, now as the engineer goes to attack Weyland in the pilots chair, David reacts to defend him and there is a short struggle during which Davids head is wrenched off. The remaining crew on the Prometheus, are now fully aware of the extent of Weyland's plan and know where the ship is about to head to. They know what is on board and that Weyland has used them all as expendables. They realise what will happen if Weyland unleashes the technology on earth and those on the Prometheus, most of them infected in some way set a noble suicide course to destroy the vessel. Vickers however wants to live...she doesn't want her hated father to be the cause of her death and so she takes one of the escape pods. The ships collide. The Prometheus hull is no match for the bio-mech ship, but it knocks it off course and sends it plunging towards the ground. The engineer falls during the collision, just as he was about to rip Weyland from the chair. He manipulates the controls in the room and the ships speed decreases as it wrenches itself from the gravitational pull and comes to a halt nose down. No idea beyond that except that....like the end of Alien where Ripley has to go around the ship to find Jonesy....for some reason Shaw and Vickers will go back into the derelict..possibly to find David....who may still be streaming them video. Possibly to find Weyland...or possibly because it's the only way off this rock....if they can kill the engineer......it'll be nerve jangling!!! Just my thoughts at the moment.....any comments?

wow, why too much time and thought into a movie for me. you people seem to think this stuff is real (at least for now)? spoiler alert...it's a movie, only entertainment. you all need to go outside and get some air and sunshine and be a contributor to society and not waste your time on the internet. why don't you help your community or do something to better society? shame this has to come from a "Bender" unit. shame...

@Bender Hey Bender... It's my day off in bed (sick)...and I don't know what you get excited about..but having a day away from my troops recovering is a good thing. So...as long as I'm have fun theorising about a film who's history first amazed me as a 13yr old is fine by me. It's haters and harmers who want to go and do something for society and the community. We ARE the society and community....and right now we're having a day off from our pressured duties. Thanks for playing.

Really Bender? What makes you think people think this is real? Thought provoking, imagination using conversations are perfectly healthy. What makes you think people around here aren't contributing to society? Is that your own deficiencies talking? Because for one, you're on here posting, are you not? How are you any better? Speaking for myself, I've spent the last 15 years, and hopefully the next 10, in our Air Force. I do my part, as I'm sure all of this forum does.

and doing such a bad job :( you need to watch all of the seasons of futurama a dozen times more and maybe you will get benders persona down right. i didnt see chumps, pimp-mobile, or a single reference for killing all humans. FOR SHAME!!!!!!

@Bender Conversation is conversation. Whether done outside, inside, on the internet or whatever. Maybe you should go to a bar and suggest everyone drinking and socializing should go outside and get some sunshine. Or better yet how bout a 5 star restaurant.

Me thinks Bender is a troll, looking at his posts.....however, as noted by belladonna...he could be so much better. The thought of a good Bender troll is quite amusing......so far though, I think between belladonna and myself we've provided more Futurama humour than he has. Must try harder...or get on with that life of his. Either way, we all win.

i concur. knowing some troll cant even make a single bender quote as compared to the times i watched every season of futurama and absorbed so many useless yet funny quotes... i apparently wasted many hours on a show just for entertainment and he cant even watch it for troll fuel!? for shame!! any troll that doesnt do a lick of research is disgraceful. know the rules! @Mithra To me, it's most likely that the actions of David8 are observed by the "bald guy", and that the origin of the human explorers is thereby revealed to "him". I don't think the bald guy is the owner of the alien spacecraft, but he may be the operator. (he's smaller than the SJ from Alien, and may looks small in the "pilot's? chair"). I think "he" operates the alien ship/space croissant/juggernaut. So, Weyland's intent is as you describe, but the outcomes are not as intended. Can't wait to find out how right we are!

@beyondthebloodplain I agree that Mr Big n' Blue is not the owner of the ship. I personally think he was engineered by the SJ's who he then set about decimating. I'm not sure he has all the answers that we want him to have. I think, like the alien, he is an evolved killer. In a way he might be like David8, scornful of his inferior makers...a bit of a god delusion with homicidal tendencies.. It may even be that the ALIEN face huggers were engineered by other SJ's to be useful in exterminating his kind....Meaning there may be more Big and Blues out there. I heard somewhere that Big n' Blue was built to be like the SJ's god. Perhaps the SJ's engineered us in their gods image? I think the Wayland agenda will have a bad outcome for Wayland as you say.

@Frantz Various Guises It was in the French SFX Magazine where they talked about Ian Whyte in the Suit and that they had to cast another cast members head, this cast member plays the Engineer in scenes on his own and when confronting the crew the actor is Ian Whyte but they use another actors face for close ups... This magazine also talked about doing old person make up for one member of the cast. Again the person who translated parts may have made some up. Again the NY Times Article could be wrong. And yes Guy Pierce who said he is in the movie for 5 minutes may only be in it for that long. But if he is not well he is not going to admit it if he is part of the plot. Again just clues, no 100% Proof. Only one peice of Proof is the Cast List now we should name who if not Guy Pierce is the old guy and the guy in wheelchair..... unless its a OAP Merc. What other explanation is there for the old guy, which member of that cast plays him.... I think its Guy Pierce we shall see.

@Mithra I must admit I have mixed feelings about the "aliens look just like us" that the trailers portray. The horror of Alien was in the unrecognisable biology of the monster, and its lethality. Literally, we were merely a feed and breed stock. I'm hoping that the trailers have masked a twist that explains the "human" configuration of the "blue guys". Perhaps they are nothing more than a biological interface for the SJs to humanity (bred in "our" image, to encourage acceptance/awe by the human observer). As opposed to us running away, or screaming, etc. I hope that they are not to the SJs as David8 is to us, and there isn't a rebel android subplot added to this a la Blade Runner. Let's leave that for the BR pre/sequel. The design, visuals and sound on the stuff I've seen so far suggest another top shelf, ground breaking movie from my favorite Sci Fi director!

What he said......... (BigDave) I think that Guys part in the film is a big plot twist and as such he may not have been 100% truthful about his involvement before the film comes out. Even if he was....5 minutes actual screen time after his reveal may be all that's needed to tell his tale.... I expect it may be a bit more...perhaps he's wearing a fabricated SJ helmet later on and thinks that doesn't count as screen time ; )

@beyondthebloodplain I agree that the ALIEN look of the ALIEN was a major factor in it's impact on our psyche. No eyes....extending jaws.....absolutely relentless whilst being smart as well......not to mention the whole face hugger thing....outstanding concepts. The blue guy seems a bit....light...but I actually think the horror will be about his sheer scale....his aggressiveness and sheer mystery. Possibly he isn't representative of all the same blue guys.... There is a lot of terror in having an opponent who's vastly bigger and stronger than you...looks like you, but that you cannot communicate with or surrender to. I don't think the relationship to the SJ's will be like that of David to his makers other than...it is a creature to creator relationship.....for better or worse. I think the only rebel android bit will be David's relationship and attachment to Weyland.

@beyondthebloodplain Thanks for that...It was great getting my thoughts out and sharing them with you.....its fun and cathartic to be a part of this...we never thought it would happen and now it's nearly here.....yup, it's only a film...but we all know what films can mean to us.....and a great film...well, you become a part of it like I did for 20+ years with Star Wars, Blade Runner, Alien. They influence your future thinking. The conversations you have, the catch phrases you use...You are the sum total of your knowledge and experience and these films are a part of that. A part of you......I hope Prometheus is a great experience....I'm sure it will be. Cheers

I do think that maybe a lot will be disapointed by some aspects of this movie. The SJ being Big Bald Guys and the link they have with creating us etc... Weyland and his ambition to use the special stuff with another David 8 to make a Replicant etc etc. The 2nd part is speculation by me. The Cast reads characters related to the 17 official crew + 1 Andriod.... Exploration Team X 5 Shaw, Holloway, Milburn, Fifield and Ford Company Reps X2 David 8 and Vickers Prometheus Pilot Crew x 3 Janek, Chance and Ravel. Mercernaries X 4 Merc 1 Merc 2 Merc 4 Mechanics X4 Mechanic 1 Mechanic 2 Mechanic 3 Mechanic 4 A number of these Mercs and Mechanics are played by Stunt Actors in other words guys who normally play Stunts, so you can bet they would be all cannon fodder and i recon at least 3 bite dust in the Hanger Scene when Fifield goes bersek. Only one i cant find anything on is CC SMIFF So maybe he is the old guy a frail looking 80+ Merc? Unless old guy is mutated crew member or indeed someone who is not on the crew list or cast list.... Or again its Guy Pierce as old Weyland.... place your bets.... I got £20 on old Weyland.....

@BigDave I agree.....although you've done all the work my friend. I cannot believe that if there was a wheelchair Merc or crewman...that they wouldn't have made a point of showing him more clearly in either the hanger intro to the mission, or any other part of the trailer/s. A wheelchair guy in a space movie would be a "feature"...If it wasn't a twist, they wouldn't have hidden it so well. (The half a second / half hidden in the background when Shaw collapses being the only exception). It's Shaw....It's the Mac Daddy himself. I'll match your 20. M

This image has David 8 and what apears to be Mechanic 1 with some frail person in a Wheel Chair now why would the unidentified Merc need a Wheel Chair? Compare those two pics.... I think its same guy... We cant make out the Wheel Chair guy enough and he could be Holloway still... But the other shot well that i feel is Weyland, we shall have to wait and see.

Isn't there also a Human sized looking SJ standing over Shaw in a hallway of the human ship at the end of one of the trailers? I'm starting agree with the "Weyland in a SJ suit" or Android Replicant theories. Without a doubt Weyland is on that ship and any androids he took with him are not stock. If he's pushing his 90's and see's a path to immortality or becoming bio mechanical he will take it. In his Ted speech you can tell he wants to be a GOD. Also, if you read the Weyland's Website Timeline it says at the age of 14 Weyland created synthetic tissues to cure some throat disease. If he did that at 14 imagine what he could do at 90 with better tech, an android and SJ bio tech...

@NC77 & SaintsSinphony & all We're cooking with gas now!!!....rock and roll. Someone said in my other thread that they didn't want to read the book first and ruin the film for themselves...now I respect that and each to their own...but for me, Prometheus is not about a one off two hour event. To me, having been 13 at the time I first saw the Sunday Telegraph article and pictures from some upcoming film called ALIEN, I am loving this...the weeks leading up to it...the guessing of the plot lines...the scraps of information. To me it is a whole experience that will lead up to an amazing film experience...the more insight I get either through here or from the screen play if it's released first means that when I watch the movie I feel like I have more context, more background and depth on why things are the way they are...it's not ruining it uncovering the story....I still feel the thrill of uncovering plot twists and turns...only it's more inclusive. As I say, each to their own....and it would be entirely different if... MAJOR SPOILER ALERT.....someone just came up and told me Vader was Lukes' father...END OF MAJOR SPOILER...just before I went into the cinema......this is very different. I've even gone and bought a 3D TV for this for when it comes out on Blue Ray. Funny how The Fifth Element was a catalyst in me buying a decent telly years ago... : )

@Jim100a100 Thanks for that...I think between us all we're coming up with part of the plot/twist. I work with someone not a million miles from Weyland...World famous....driven...successful...very OCD...and I have no doubt at all that were they in Weylands position, they would have absolutely no qualms in using and disposing of everyone to get what they wanted. sheesh...this guy gets his PA to phone a senior manager to come and clean his iPad screen. I certainly think Weyland will want to take everything he can and no one or thing will get in his way....is his plan....

that's right. In a way I think all the monsters are incidental. The movie is really about his (or "Man's") hubris and ambition leading his downfall. My theory is that he pisses the Engineer off to point where the Engineer is like "I'm going to Earth and take care of these miscreants" But your take on it: that it's actually Weyland in the Jockey suit works for me too. I bet a lot of those trailers are spliced and diced to mislead (big revelation, there!).

@Jim100a100 Hey Jim...just wrote a rather long response....and my browser died. In brief, I think Mans Huberis is definitely the underlying story but the main cinematic device will be the whole WOW...another world, who made us, this is all very new...kinda thing, which will be mega....and then the plot will develop and thicken. Who ever is driving that thing when the Prometheus crashes into it...my money is on Weyland being on board in some capacity. I don't think the Engineer will have bad feelings about humanity and earth...just that thieving Weyland and his friends....after the crash, the survivors on the ground will somehow have to either convince the alien not to tar them all with the crimes of Weyland...or.....kill it. I have no idea how it will go, because I don't know if they're going for a sequel or not. I just think the underlying plot attachment to the title is that Weyland, like Prometheus, steals something from the gods (?) and will be gruesomely punished for it....I think you're right about the misdirection in the trailers as well....

We also have to remember that Guy Pierce said in two interviews that there was a lot going on the sets and it was great to work with the cast and production team. Maybe he is talking about other scenes and he came and saw some of them. Maybe he is talking just about the filming of the TED Speach and his Hollogram message? Or maybe because he was on set and location to film with the crew in a few scenes.... Note there is a Track called Weyland.... is that purely for the Hollogram scene? I recon that track will be played when the viewers and crew first find out and see Weyland is on the Ship/Mission.

@BigDave Thanks to your pics Dave, I am sure of my basic idea at the start of this thread with the only amendments so far (more to be honed as info becomes available I'm sure): David is on board the Juggernaut getting to grips with the star map / controls when Weyland makes his bid to leave the Prometheus...after David contacts him with his progress. Things are getting too hot with the mutations and crew speculations so Weyland uses his hired Mercs to get him over to the temple complex where he plans to pilot the craft to Earth or at least off the planet where he and David will have time to figure out how to get it to Earth without anyone stopping them. It's a breathable atmosphere in there and so he is able to get into the prepared SJ helmet and into the chair....possibly while the mercs do battle with Big n' Blue. I am not sure if when he gets there, David is now already ripped apart or if that happens in defending Weyland. I am hoping that somehow...we get some real SJ involvement at this point. I have a feeling...a bit like the tale of Prometheus, that Weyland will become "bound" to the chair, as Prometheus did to the rock, and he will meet a sticky end. I'd love to believe that, if the SJ in ALIEN is a space suit, that Weyland's corpse is inside it......however, when you look at the sheer size of the arms on the SJ in the original....No Way!!! Our plot's changing...but as Vickers says " Changing into what"?..... : D All good fun.

@Mithra I love your "Weyland/Prometheus bound to the rock" idea. Brilliant. Increasingly Weyland does seem like the character most likely to end up playing god. He seems to be seeking immortality, both figuratively through his work, through his creations, through his influence... and then literally, what with the viral references to technology to reboot a human brain for five years. Weyland reminds me a little of Steve Jobs, only a lot more evil. I'm not seeing Vickers as his biological offspring, though. As a replicant-type organic-android-creation, yeah. But not necessarily Weyland's creation, and definitely not as his biological offspring. I'll be disappointed if I'm wrong. Vickers deserves a better story than "slighted daughter."

@abiogenesis Thanks for that : ) I'm not entirely sure where I get the message from that Vickers is his daughter....I can see it, but like you, I feel there could be other alternatives: 1. Ambitious Senior exec 2. Yutani spy 3. New model personal android. 4. Personal bodygaurd. 5. Someone on the staff with hitherto undisclosed knowledge of the aliens We'll see soon. I think the on screen snippets we've seen of her, although a mixture and a bit odd, do show her as a bit too emotional to come across as an android...although there is a weird snap of her standing to attention outside a door. hmmmmm M
