The story is great, the film is GREAT...BUT, the CRAPPY alien ruins this movie, IMHO. I think it would be "relatively easy" for a big company like Weta to go back and redo all the horribly bad animations....this could be done relatively cheaply and make the studio untold money for a marginal investment... To me, the Worse than Bad Alien (motions, animation, lighting, coloring, texture) in A.3 is the only thing really holding A.3 back from being just a step below A.1 in the "hierarchy"....

A coincidence I found this thread through Google and was about to post the same thing, it DEFINITELY needs to have the Alien redone, and just as importantly the Alien first person perspective shots need to be removed. I want it to be as long as possible, keep all of the extended scenes in there that the assembly cut has, cut down the part with Dillion getting ripped apart while telling Ripley what to do, have him say a short line while struggling at most.. Maybe cut down the parts with Weyland talking to Ripley followed by her jumping into the lava pool (redo the CGI on that too) or remove that shot completely. I honestly loved every part of Alien3 except for these little issues I have, the filming was absolutely terrific and very interesting, the acting was great too, fantastic characters and 90% of Alien3 stood proudly next to Alien in my opinion. Alien3 was great, I saw every Alien film in one day when I was 10, my friend lent me the box set and Alien3 was without a doubt my favourite back then, before I started judging special effects. So that answers it directly, I would absolutely love this to happen, even if Fox don't do it, i'm sure there are employees at WETA or whatever who would do this in their spare time?

Just watching the Special Edition on Blu-Ray for the very first time. I thought the wide shot of it after it's birthed from the Ox looked okay. It looks fine when it's walking & wel lit. As soon as it cuts to the part when it runs in the dark, it looks awful. The colour is all wrong. If I won a ludicrous amount on the lottery, I'd fund it myself. I'd also get rid of that stupid shot of the egg on the Sulaco, can't believe they left that in.

at the time of viewing, I had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM with the depiction of the xenomorph in A3 -- what really pissed me off was that Alien 3 "wasn't set on Earth". Now, THAT, would have been a decent Alien movie. Imagine the absolute carnage - no need for Cameron's Queens, just commando/stealth xenos stealing your kids and hatching eggs from them, eggs containing facehuggers littering the glacial landscape. Ah....

So the creature in Alien 3 was a puppet the whole time? I always thought the full-body shots (the shitty looking ones) were just terrible CGI.

@N3cr0n0mIV The part when the Xeno's head cracks after Ripley "hits the sprinklers", is the only scene that was CGI. It actually looked pretty good, even though it was only a couple of seconds long. The shot of it running out of the the toxic waste dump after Golic releases it was bloody awful. It runs really fast, but if you frame forward, it looks almost 2D. There's a couple of frames where one of its feet isn't even attached to its leg. It was obviously never properly finished, seeing as it's not part of the theatrical release.
