MemberOvomorphMay-13-2012 3:27 PMWell that makes sense, given the precedence set by Bishop in Aliens. Perhaps the reason Ash was programmed to ensure the safety of the creature was precisely because David had failed to do so? That's an interesting point you've raised Shilliam. LOVING the name by the way!

MemberFacehuggerMay-13-2012 4:07 PMShe doesn't strike me as cold and aloof. She strikes me as someone who is one good "BOOO!" away from sheer panic. She doesn't want to be on this trip and she is terrified of what they will find.

MemberOvomorphMay-13-2012 4:09 PMI'll agree that she probably doesn't want to be there - I sure as hell wouldn't want to be there in their position!

MemberFacehuggerMay-13-2012 5:17 PMIt would be fascinating to me until I found out they hated us/wanted to end our existence in favor of theirs.

Myrddin365
MemberFacehuggerMay-13-2012 5:37 PMMy contention is that Vickers NEVER wanted to be there. She was terrified to even GO on this mission.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphMay-13-2012 6:10 PMPossibly, that might be why she does the whole push-ups in the middle of the night thing - part of a coping mechanism perhaps?
She does look a bit sleepless in some of the scenes, although that may just be me...

That seems quite likely.
I think that at a minimum David and Shaw will make it out "alive".
David will have his head wrenched off by the sole surviving Engineer, but will be backed up Cylon style and will reappear in the next film somehow.
Shaw's DNA will have been modified somehow by her pregnancy with Cuddles to make her "special" and relevant to the next film. She's the Ripley character, after all.
My one question is about Vickers. I'm not sure yet if:
a) she's actually a synthetic
b) she's a clone (of Weyland's daughter or some such)
c) she's a plane ol’ human and buys it never to return
In either of scenarios A and B above, she's still back in the next film, even if the methodology is a little "cheaty."
Of course, I'm not a betting man...

Myrddin365
MemberFacehuggerMay-13-2012 6:30 PMIf Vickers is synthetic, I wonder why she hates David so much. If he's the newer model, then maybe she feels threatened by him, but that seems pretty complex for this level of synthetic.
Some on this site speculate that she is an Engineer plant. If THAT'S the case, then Engineers might find inorganic intelligence intensely repugnant, hence the reaction to David.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphMay-13-2012 7:01 PMThat sounds very Upstairs Downstairs (and she's from upstairs).
Maybe she knows he's been invading her dreams. I can see her having a problem with that.

I seriously doubt she's an Engineer plant.
What is the evidence that she hates David intensely?
The Engineers might find inorganic intelligence intensely THREATENING. ;•)

MemberFacehuggerMay-13-2012 6:52 PMThere was a 15min preview for specific reporters and whatnot. She is very terse with David, ordering him around asking him if anyone died, and telling him to give her a robe. There's a scene where she appears to do physical violence to him in a hallway.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Myrddin365
MemberFacehuggerMay-13-2012 7:12 PMShe could also be furious that he brought the Urn on board. We don't really know, but she definitely feels violence against David is appropriate under the circumstances.

Oh that's right! The urn. I keep forgetting that he's examining it on board.
He must have been programmed to do that (like Ash), otherwise it's the stooopidist mistake ever. Asimov would NOT approve.
I'd probably whop him upside the head too for that.

Myrddin365
MemberFacehuggerMay-13-2012 7:33 PMBy every line I've heard her say, she is very uptight, but very intent on keeping everyone safe in that retarded corporate safety officer way. Army is just as bad in garrison.

MemberOvomorphMay-14-2012 1:34 AMHey Myrddin,
Thanks for that link, it was a really interesting read.
I definitely can see her having a health and safety role, I don't know if you are from the UK or not, but there is a health and safety officer for EVERYTHING here. I work in construction and before we can even really look at a project, a complete risk assessment has to be made... and a full file on H & S measures is compiled during the process, so yes I can see that being at least a part of Vickers' role.
You never know, it may be a sly dig on RS' part about the whole "Health and Safety gone mad" culture we seem to have here in the UK, not being able to do anything really without somebody stepping in and saying "That's too dangerous. You can't do that" etc.

Myrddin365
MemberFacehuggerMay-14-2012 1:10 PMI'm in the u.s. army. It's just as bad here. I have to fill out a risk assessment if I want to stay in town when I take vacation time.
