Anyone seen this movie? Came out in 1989. Basically its the thing/Alien underwater. Interesting fact...Ron Cobb of Alien fame was the production designer, look out for his familiar Nostromo themes. You can see the film for free via youtube (in segments)

The Abyss was a good movie, ds6 and laviathan where simply ripoffs. Sad to say but ds6 and laviathion where more ripp offs of alien than the abyss. I can only assume this was a result of bad intel between studios. If yall dont remember the abyss was suposed to be a flop due to the uderwater budget issues. Dont count J.C. out he's still on contract with fox just like R.C. I would take an return to the Abyss easier than a return to A Good year p2 or another amarican gangster. and dont get me started on robbin Hood. lol

Leviathan... wasn't GREAT, but it also wasn't horrendously unwatchable. Sure it was like a B-Movie knockoff, but it still had some great effects and half-decent acting - personally I think Weller did just fine.

This movie will only suceed if the writing is good. Without a good story it will be pretty crap just like Legend.

OK B movie, I agree with Twitch, about the "good" acting; and the monsters weren't that great. However I did like the idea of the gene mutation and the Russian project thing about making supersoldiers to breathe underwater. Rule no1 don't mess with mother nature...... somehow can also be applied to Prometheus.

I would rather forget that movie, the abyss, and deepstar six ever existed. Though I did enjoy the abyss as a kid, as an adult it was unwatchable.

Fair enough Twitch... it wasn't Stan Winston's best work, but IMO it's still better than some of the so-called effects they use in B movies now.

while effects and some scares are good i see it more as a ripoff of "the thing" than of Alien ...or maybe of both ...anyway there is nothing truly innovative actors are really no charismatic at all .... Peter Weller in not a great actor to me , and the woman was there only because of her beauty . Richard Crenna is also in one of his "flat" roles .

I would like to throw a couple more into the mix - How about Deep Rising and Virus. Pretty good flicks with some good special effects. I think better that "B" movies effects with pretty good acting.
