Xeno substituted with mutant in latest trailer

This is from the latest extended trailer:

The scene is the same but appears to be a different take with a completely different monster, now it is the familiar mutated crew member with the bloated head seen elsewhere in the trailer. What happened to the xeno-like creature? Why did they do two different takes with radically different monster?

Himmel, I don't know how to make a gif of it, but at 2:31 of the Prometheus: Origin' featurette on yahoo.com One of the characters from this same scene is being pulled up the side of a transport on a stunt cable in a way that could only be in the final movie if they completely redo the shot with CGI. This would seem to verify your theory of shots in new trailers lacking postproduction changes to throw us off and keep us guessing.

dont forget this is shot in 3d. you can can alter perspective somewhat. pluss you figure on an important shot you will have a few cameras running and some maybe just feet or inches from each other. R.S. is know for using as many cams as he can get away with.

The mutant in the first shot is taller than in the second shot. Look at the ceiling lights. So, I am thinking the second is before the post production work.
Also, I don't think we are seeing a lot of cgi in the shot. The second one looks like a normal actor.

And people called me crazy for saying the studio was changing things to throw us off. :P

You ARE crazy though :-P anyone that didn't know that is on the wrong page of the script :-D

well having read through all comments posted there is nothing for me to add DAMMIT! have to be faster next time :P
Keep up the xeno battle Cypher ! lol I think it will be impossible to win it though I did enjoy reading the thread on it awhile back ;)

The axe in this shot could correspond with the xeno's arm length. The mutant appears to be too small and low to pull someone sideways and upwards like that while a larger xeno would be much more capable.
Another gif of the mutant.

@twitch (especially here)
It's not the same shot. Look at the leading/trailing legs for each throw. Differing movement in each.
Who thought however, that the first time we saw this, it was a pissed off SJ?

xenomorph simply means many forms or a variant. In Latin it means "murderous thief"....interesting, no?
May 14, 2012
Yes this is all due to post CGI. The film makers find stuff last minute, and then they switch it. I have never seen so much stuff change in a movie from trailer to trailer. We might see an entirely different scene who knows

Personally I think someone in CGI dept deliberately altered that guy in the first clip to look alien-like just as a joke to see how many fanboys they could make wet their trousers.

Having rewatching that close up GIF, I actually don't think that's a growth out of Fifield's head, I think it's a portion of melted helmet. I think perhaps though that he may rapidly transition into a creature during the course of the fight, hence the discrepancies with ARM length and morphology between the two. It'd be more believable to use CGI augmented practical effects than to simply go full CGI on this.

These are two different shots, the legs and posture of the "mutant" and the flamethrower are different. The other dead "mutant" that's on fire also appears to be different between the two.

Here is a thread I started to possibly help with this discussion.
Simply because of the position of the feet/legs being completely different, I think these are two "takes" altogether. Are they done with a "xeno" and "mutant" just to throw us a loop? Who knows.

"1 shot/2 shot".....interesting.
CGI augmented, perhaps - but, I'd say, augmented and possibly even composited - on the basis of at least two separate takes.
The precision of the staging is confusing, but I don't see how differences in perspectives of the 3D rig could account for the completely different behaviour of the thrower - in the first case, he powerfully heaves in one fluid movement, pushing off with his left, but rotating his body to end his drive off his right leg; in the second case, he does exactly opposite - but not quite as simply: he performs a little two-step back, to ends his drive off his left leg.
Also, the unfortunate burning corpse in the background does seem in a very different position, altogether - but, what finally convinces me, is he being thrown: this sequence is obviously well-choreographed, but the posture of the victim is slightly different; and his head, while he takes his Flight of Doom, adopts a completely different attitude inside that helmet.
I think @Himmel calls it correct.

"flight of DOOM" @allinamberclad I'm so gonna laugh when I see that in the theater because I'll be thinking of your comment

Who knows whats going on....
Its does seem odd that the other two shots corispond with the swollen Head Fifeild as opposed to the Xeno looking one...
someone told me a while ago, that he saw some stuff on set and he said that the effected crew members turn into something that looks like...

Pumpkin Head lol... i thought the guy was nuts as that would be soo obvious as the Pumpkin Head did look inspired by the Xeno, and also looks like Ripleys Baby....
But then after seeing that CGI shot of the dude with the Log Arms and Xeno ish head, he does look like Pumpkin Head... so who knows whats going on.

The original shot also has the barb-like extensions directly behind the elbows and that point had many believing that there was going to be a xenomorph in this.
Curiously though, the mural shot from the temple ceiling (way back to the week 2 release stills) also showed the submissive jockey creature has the pointy barb like extensions behind the elbows.
