Vessels under the Statue

I am not so sure what these vessels are. Any idea what is appropriate name for that small thingy?
I have also noticed similar sand structure near beach. What do you call that in english for such structures? (is it "dune"?)

One more question - do these vessels are made to hold aliens DNA's or they are just placed there to show people the connection between alien and prometheus?

The term most of us in the States have used is "ampules" or "urns"
They might hold DNA of alien creatures or be like Egyptian Canopic jars holding parts of a god.
No one is really quite sure.

It's unclear what they hold, but they are various sizes implying a variety of contents. They appear to contain infectious material that mutates its host into what the urn contained.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

Hey Sky.
I think I would call it an ampule or even a canopic jar, but that's just me :3 Seeing as most people are insisting on calling this structure a temple and describing there as being sarcophogus' (sarcophogi?) in the pilot's room.
By sand structure, what exactly are you referring to?
I think the vessels are there for both functions, although perhaps rather than keeping DNA in stasis, perhaps they are a method of quarantine?

@Dippy,
I have noticed similar structure near beach, that was made purposefully to obstruct the ocean tide. I don't have an image of it right now. Otherwise I could have added it in the OP. I'll see if i can find the image.

Ah! You mean like a shore defence measure? We have them all up the coast from where I was born...

@dippy
Here, found it.

Sky... it looks to me like a very aesthetic form of revetment, it's different to the kind we have here in Scotland (generally it's just a case of 'chuck some boulders in there, that'll do).

Yes. When I first saw the trailer my attention was on that structure. I have seen both big and small sizes of these rocks(vessels) near shore.

One of them apparently contains THIS:

The translucency suggests egg sac to me, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part... perhaps it's some sort of organ?
May 14, 2012
I think it's a pre-facehugger stage of a facehugger.
Other images of this online (that are NOT blacked out) look much more "hugger"-like. I'm not sure where to find one, sadly.
I think this 'blackening' was added to the trailer shot (from whence this came) in post, in order to intentionally obfuscate what we'll see in the real film.

A proto-hugger? Could be sukkal, could be...
Yes, I believe it was as well... it literally went from a see through, gelatinous mass to a murky, opaque one.

David is not organic at all. He can't be infected/affected by it.
EDIT: Except maybe for it to bleed on him and melt his hand off...
May 14, 2012
But what if it's a virulent organism that could affect both organic and inorganic material... now THAT would be terrifying...
May 14, 2012
Snailnslug... put it this way, Health and Safety would have an absolute FIELD day with him... be he an android or not...
May 14, 2012
I can't recall whether Bishop in Aliens ,wore ppe examining the facehugger at the
lab ,or if was just the private who wore a face cover . Oh well even an Android should be concerned.
May 14, 2012
Pretty sure Bishop wasn't wearing any either, but then he at least was likely working from notes which probably stated that it was harmless once it had expired!
