What if the change to bio-mechanics was forced?

Here is an idea that is probably way off, but interesting nonetheless. What if the jump from biological to bio-mechanical was forced when the engineers' technology became self-aware, obviously a long time ago, and took over, fusing themselves with the humanoids and creating what we see in the film? Thoughts? And for the record, I'm not saying I think this is what happens, I'm just curious to know what you guys think. However, I think there is a lot of evidence that David plays some central role in what's happens, perhaps sinister role. There has been talk of his ego and other human characteristics from the beginning. And Ridley thinks he's one of the best actor's alive today. Food for thought.

I agree with your theory. It's been kinda sorta touched on already, but who cares. I like that the "ship" might carry out actions to create it's crew sort of idea. We are all just a form of vessel right? And I also agree, David may turn evil on us... I kind of am looking forward to that!

Hello whiskuz, At first I wrote a whole two paragraphs in answer to your question, then nuked it. I initially was going to respond that the blending of bio with machine we see in the Engineer's environement was so evenly distributed that it had to have occurred organically (by design) and not the result of some accidental takeover by some newly formed artificial intelligence. But then I realized that perspective was too myopic. In the human experience, there has been no encounter with an intelligence greater than out own- so we have no real basis for comparison. However, if the Singularity folks are even halfway correct, a machine intelligence would potentially be orders of magnitude more powerful and who knows what it could accomplish. I think David *does* play a key role in the film, but not necessarily a malevolent one. I kind of think of it as a form of love/hate relationship. On the one hand, these humans created you but are obviously inferior in many ways; and yet.. well, they created you! Something has to be said for the accomplishment itself, regardless of how David sees it. I think the meeting with him and the Engineer is of course a key turning point in the film. Will he be quickly and thoughtlessly maimed? Will he be made into a puppet? Or will the Engineer bond with him, recognizing one of their own kind?
