MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:30 PMI've been a member of this forum since December and between then and now, have had internet on and off. I try to keep current with all the new discussions, theories, etc but one day after not being on for a week or so, all of a sudden everyone is talking about Weyland stowing away on the ship and he's old and blah blah blah. I've tried very hard to find where this rumor originated in the discussions but wasn't able to pinpoint:
1- where this idea first came from and
2- what evidence makes folks so sure that this is a theory that is most likely true.
At first I just thought it was a discussion but so many threads have mentioned it so I have to ask because I apparently missed out on something big lol The last interviews I read with Guy Pearce states that he has a small role in the film, he was on set for not even a month and didn't even get to meet everyone in cast/crew. But, like I said, there seem to be a following of people who believe he his on the ship and plays a larger role... and then that latest scene by scene "recollection" of the screener. I just want to know if there is legit evidence or if this is just wild speculation lol

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:41 PMthe underlining story in the Alien franchise is not the xenomorph, but the company
its knowledge of the organism (we have yet to discover when actually in this universe was this knowledge discovered)
its lack of concern for anything or anyone except securing this organism
and what is its purpose for wanting the organism
in everyone of the films in the franchise excluding the avp series...the company has been one step ahead of the audience and the characters....
i dont think prometheus changes that. I believe that is why there is so many theories about weyland.....we must remember there was an expedition before prometheus lets no forget....hint
i think it is safe to say weyland is onboard and we will get more than just the TED viral which has flooded the internet and a brief hologram of him in the film mentioned by those who have already seen the first 12 min of film in London......
Guy P. is top billed in credits with cast that has to say something.....

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:43 PMThere is no concrete evidence. There are a few screen shots of a guy that could be Weyland. As far as the details of how/why he is there, it is just speculation. There are a lot of theories that are "accepted" (for lack of a better term) as how things may go down in the movie.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:44 PMI think the 3rd screen i posted is good enough as concrete evidence, come on old dude that can barely walk obviously is guy pearce.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:46 PMI believe Peter Weyland is like a lot of people, filled with curiosity and a keen sense of how to locate it. That said, he is ruthless in that vain. A true engine of discovery that will not quit until his answers are met.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:47 PMHow do we know there was a mission before Prometheus? Just curious.

Hollow Way
MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:47 PMI agree, we are going to see more of 'ol Weyland than a TED viral video, or even a hologram cameo at the beginning of the film.
The big question is going to be if Weyland is hidden aboard the Prometheus... or if he is already on the planet, having made an earlier trip there. There is speculation that there must be some reason that Vickers is SO sure the trip to the temple will result in death.

RS isn't a slouch, whatever footage he releases whether in trailers, teasers, viral vids, etc. contains exactly what he wants us to see. Long before we get to go over each video frame-by-frame, you know that he/others already have.
We've seen changes in scenes within different trailers. (SJ room and holo SJs iirc)
So I think this is a masterful move of misdirection and bread-crumbs leading nowhere.
(or I really hope so, I want to be thoroughly surprised come June!)

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:49 PMIf the person who appears elderly was really a sick and/or infected crew member, wouldn't they be in sick-bay, instead of fully suited-up, wandering around with bodyguards?

dammitimadoctor
MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:56 PMIt certainly does seem to be Weyland, older. Everyone else seems to be protecting him, helping him, and is that a walking stick I see someone carrying for him.
This old guy/Weyland is definetly in charge, everyone else is acting like his 'hired guns'. He seems intent on getting away from whatever threat is about.
It was hinted there must be/ has been another mission/expedition prior to Prometheus. Where has this idea come from. Still just curious.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:57 PMHey! Let's not forget the "What happens to Wrinkly Weyland?" thread.......it's
speculate-o-licious!!!
Seriously though..."he's in it"......"up to his neck in it"...you only have to look at NoxWords members profile pic for undeniable evidence....

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 2:58 PMAh ha! Now I see! Yeah, that last picture really explains a lot for me lol If that isn't Guy Pearce, dude should be his stunt double for sure. I was reading a lot of discussions about him searching for immortality, etc. Now that I see the images, it's safe to assume he's on board the ship, but now that I've seen those shots and the speculation has more merit than it did before, I feel disappointed. Why? He's old and refuses to sit out on this monument of an expedition... just like Weyland in AvP. I am well aware that AvP isn't cannon to the main franchise/this movie, but I can't help but think that RS wouldn't go as far as copping a theme from the sub-par AvP story line. I really hope that if Weyland is on board, it's for better reasons than being old and wanting to witness this first hand/find immortality.

maybe but what we know about weyland is he is not going to lay around idle esp if its a situation to come in contact with organism or reach his ultimate goal....which is still unclear....all we do know is Holloway appears to follow the same method to accomplishing goals based off the exchange with him and David ..."How far are you willing to go to get your answers.....what would you be willing to do?"

Did you put that in quotes because you were paraphrasing Gregory Peck, in: "The Guns of Navarone?

c'mon, at this point, the burden of proof is really on anybody to tell us why we shouldn't think this is weyland. The forehead, brow comparison is unmistakeable.
And you dont get a movie star as big as Guy Pearce is right now to just do a viral promotion and cameo as a hologram.
as far as whether he "stows away", or is already on the planet, i believe the latter, though I have no explanation as to how an old man like him survives on the planet on his own...but i believe this may be him:

However, i'm virtually alone in the last theory.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 3:02 PMIf we really want to get into speculation territory, maybe Weyland was on board the first mission to the planet and that is why Vickers is going on the second, to find him. Weyland, jumping the gun and going out on his own in secret and not returning, leaving the future of the company in limbo. It wouldn't do stock holders well if the elderly head of THE major corporation in the 21st century goes gallivanting off into the unknown...

Yea it seems to obvious for me that he would try take something from the SJ or whatever, but why else would he go?
And i don't think he went on another ship, depends really what his motive is and ok if he wants immortality how does he know what he needs will be here if no one has been there before? So its possible i guess.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 3:07 PMYou know, what if we reverse it? What if Vickers is vying for company control and goes on her own... Weyland and his "mercenaries" go out after the stolen ship and crew, a fact the crew may not even know?
What is the point of mercenaries on a scientific mission?

That was a great line in a great movie. We only had a black and white TV when it came out, but I saw it in a theater.

Mithra
MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 3:10 PMI would suggest...at the very very least......someone of his ambition and with his wealth, given the choice of spending his dying days on earth, or journeying into space to an unknown planet to possibly make first ever human contact with aliens or even our makers...on a ship you owned and built...there is NO WAY...you'd take option A!....not for all the dolly birds and Viagra in the world!!!!!

gameover man
MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 3:10 PMmy theory is that the derelict from Alien is already on LV426 at the time the prometheus comes to this planet, and the ending that "links to Alien" will be learning that Weyland was part of an earlier mission that, one way or another, resulted in the ship crashing there, many years before.

Talking of great films....In a few minutes, I'm going to watch "The Andromeda Strain"...having never seen it!! Can't believe how that passed me by...caught a glimpse on a friends media centre....looks like it still stands up today.
I remember having a black and white TV.......Back when Dr Who made you sh*t your pants behind the sofa....."Daleks and Sea Devils".....the first really scary ALIENS : )

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 3:14 PMI don't understand all this talk either?!? It's already been established Peter Weyland is only in the film for about a minute or so...

Rawr
MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 3:15 PMWhatever reason he's there don't you all think its to obvious he tries taking something from the SJ? There's gotta be another reason or something else he does within the movie.
@ReelBigCohen
Well look at the screens, we have him in 2 different scenes why would he just be on the ship and get 1min screen time then die or something?

Mithra
MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 3:20 PM@ReelBigCohen
Appreciate your thinking..but it's not been confirmed other than in pre-launch cagey conversations.... SPOILER....I doubt in the pre-release to the "Sixth Sense" that Bruce W mentioned about himself playing a ghost...END SPOILER....so I'm not sure that they are being entirely honest about what could be a big reveal in the movie. Also the SJ was only in ALIEN for a couple of minutes but made a huge impact. Even 5 minutes of total screen time could be a game changer later on in the movie when it looks like he might make an entrance.
Just my thoughts...... But you could equally be right my friend.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 4:14 PMWell wouldn't he be 83 by the time we get to Prometheus? I don't think that's him in the screenshots.

Mithra
MemberOvomorphMay-16-2012 4:26 PMMy old man was still spritely at 83 and only really slowed down at 89....and he didn't have private health care or access to all the wonders Weyland would have...so I think it's entirely possible he'd be there...possibly needing some assistance ( which from the screen shots he's getting).... Honestly, I don't know...but my gut feeling is that he is there as a real plot twister.
It'll all be good : )
