The AVP films... those aren't canon are they?

The AVP films were, well not the best films to take place within the Alien mythos (or the Predator universe for that matter). And I'm wondering if it has ever been stated anywhere that those films take place in an alternate reality, seperate to the Alien/Prometheus universe? Anyone know? Thanks for any answers/opinions.

I saw AvP again today and the feeling of some things in the beginning look simular to Prometheus: - archeologist opening a wall - An expedition with a dying weyland on board. - The feel of the room and chairs where they are briefed. - driving the vehicles to the entrance - going through a tunnel - statues - murals of aliens - sacreficial room in AvP and the room in Prometheus I think R.S likes AvP ...
