The AVP films... those aren't canon are they?

i think the idea with promethius is to take in all of alien and (as a nod to JC) SOME of aliens and omit everything else from your memory

It isn't considered canon because the Aliens and Predators are not in the same universe. Much like why Batman can never be a part of The Avengers. Alien and Predator are two separate franchises that were mashed together in the sole purpose to make money. Good examples of this are: The non-canon comic book series written by Frank Miller called "RoboCop versus The Terminator" which suggests that the creation of Skynet and the Terminators was made possible due to the technology used to create RoboCop. OR the mashup, "Superman vs. the Terminator: Death to the Future" where we find Skynet forming a cross-temporal alliance with Superman's foe the Cyborg, dispatching various Terminators into the past in an attempt to eliminate Superman, Supergirl and Superboy.

Short answer, Hell NO.

Depends on who you ask, Your personal opinion and your level of objectivity... Officially - Unknown. Some (like above) fans - No, Never, Hell No, Blasphemy etc. Other fans - Maybe, Meh, Possibly etc. The rest/few fans - Yes, Could Work, Why Not etc. IMO - I don't see why not. I understand the arguments both for and against, the ideas and themes work and fit (despite objections you will hear), but the actual films themselves were missed oppurtunities (especially AVPR). End of the day this is a argument about what is considered canon for a fictional universe, and usually fans are very subjective regards this, only accepting what they like and usually dismissing what the don't. Personally I'm more open minded, looking at all possibilities and avenues, and I am less critical of additions to any franchise.

I personally don't consider it, yet I also try to block out Alien 3....

@Snorkelbottom; I happen to like AVP, but it's not cannon. *(I go by what Ridley, Giger and Cameron say). AVP2, was disgusting crap though... I also liked Resurrection and Alien 3.

I've said it before, but I'll reiterate my elitist edict here: Alien & Predator need to be kept in their separate ends of the universe. [i]Alien[/i] was one of the scariest horror films ever made. [i]Predator[/i] is a comic book styled Rastafarian space crab. So there. : P

I agree with @ Svanya I didn't mind AvP (besides the whole Human teaming up with the Predator thing and the Aliens not winnin but anyways) However unlike a lot of people I actually quite enjoyed Resurrection and Alien 3, try weren't as good as 1 or 2, but l really like the different emotions, and feeling we get in the third and especially the fourth movie. But this is a bit off topic so as everyone else has said, AVP as AVPR are not cannon, I'm going in what Scott, Giger, Cameron and someone else (sorry I can't remember their name) stated. After all Cameron was set to do a prequel or a sequel (again my stupid memory) but said screw it after he learned they were doing AVP which he said would ruin the franchise.

What I like about the AvPs is that for so many seconds I get to see what is inside the Predator ships (they seemed to act like Klingons) and I got a glimpse of their home-world. That is it, unfortunately...

Hollywood has a history of doing monster mash-ups. In the 1940's there were movies such as Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man or the Abbott And Costello comedy horrors with all the Universal monsters. The AvP movies just carry on that tradition. They shouldn't be taken seriously and, no matter how much they tried to crowbar tenuous links from the Alien series in to them, were not part of the franchise. The film equivalent of afterbirth and as about as exciting.

...yeah but even before the AvP movies, there were comics on the subject....an BTW that batman an avengers comment is not valid due to the fact that Batman is DC an Avengers is MARVEL, it just won't work, no matter how you look at it. personally I think the Aliens an Predators work hella fine together in the universe an for the layman who does'nt kno any better would prolly think there were part of the same universe. all in all its dark an gritty an it makes soooo much more sense...timelines are a lil off, but meh...

I could see AvP being in the canon, simply because it wasn't a terrible movie. The more I watch that one, the more I like it. Unlike AvPR and Alien Resurrection...yuk Or Predators for that matter. Either way, they can't take them back now so we're stuck with em.

The history behind Prometheus is supposed to blow the AvP timeline out of the canon, so that makes them apocrypha! Basically renders them fanfics. I don't have a problem with the concept of both aliens and predators inhabiting the same universe, Predator 2 is canon for the Predator universe, so the aliens DO inhabit that universe, that's as much as we know. BTW the Predator 2 ship interior was far superior to the pristine, star trek style AvP interior! That one looked like something a human would build, and didn't bear any real resemblance to the technology we'd already seen. So, while the AvP movies can be written off, the concept won't die so easy.

The definition of Canon generally accepted is that if it's on screen, it is, if a deleted scene or unfilmed part of the script, it isn't. It be a bit like saying Star Trek and The Next Generation is canon, but Deep Space Nine isn't. Nothing to say you can't PERSONALLY decide AVP doesn't exist though! The fact remains that neither AVP movie ruins Alien or Prometheus, there is a company called Weyland, and a company called Yutani. If Prometheus states the Weyland company was founded by the character in this movie, we can simply say the 'old' Weyland company went into receivership (Charles was wrong about just a stock price drop).

AVP is non-canon to the Alien and Predator Franchise They were only made for money they were never made to be part of the series. If they were canon to the series it would have killed the series off and would have made a complete mess to the story. Crossovers are made as a what if ? universe if they brought 2 different franchises together and start fighting it out. It is cool to see that but its not cool if they were canon. such as... King Kong vs. Godzilla or Freddy vs. Jason

although i liked the idea of the movies when they came out, the first disappointed and the second made feel like i got punched in the face while watching it. and now thinking about it, i think it would have been cool if it was left at the alien skull in predator. what im trying to say is if we knew that aliens have been hunted by predators, that would be interesting, but don't completely cross the franchises(or attempt to)

[b]AVP is most definitely canon[/b], in the sense of an narrato-visual 'organism' that has evolved over time, and great fun - wonderfully inventive mythologising. For me, CANON finished with (the Ridley Scott art film) Alien - but that's just me, a purist.

Its probably best to think of them as fan-fiction.

@get-it-out-of-me! I agree 100% AVP should not be canonical, its a fan-fiction like all crossover movies!
