I was leaning towards the Juggernaut crash jump starting the second act...so yes, I agree it doesn't happen at the end. Then again...if it crashed in the middle...it wouldn't be the end anyhow would it??? Sorry, couldn't resist razzing you a little about the title sentence of your thread.

I think they have another ship to reach to earth. Otherwise Idris is not going to attack on that ship just like that..

Haha, sorry, typing on an ipad and i always slip up... I call it ipad dyslexia
And yes, in lots of threads i have read about the story, they are missing out on lots of possible details... It seems everyone is trying to tie it to alien, but i am less interested in seeing that, i dont want a rerun, am very excited by all the possible twists.

I've never thought that it crashed at the end. The gentlemen who edited the trailer said they didn't have the last 10-12 minutes to work with, meaning it has to happen before that. I think it happens before the engineer is chasing shaw around even as that ship looks pretty fucked up.
Then again, how does a fucking chandler survive a ship and ship collision?

Sky, if you were the captain and you knew that if the ship made it to Earth, it would be end of mankind, you wouldn't just ram it, knowing every life on the mission would be lost?
Of course, we can't be certain how much Janek knows when he makes his decision, but if Shaw said "if we don't stop it now, there won't e any home to go back to", I'd go full speed.

I don't believe the crash was ever likely to be at the end - that would be just too tired and expected.
That crash has to be a huge turning point - for all Species concerned and for a lot of different reasons - with, presumably, a great deal to wrap up surrounding it and several characters & issues with few, if any, places to go - and a lot of things to try and fix - so I would have placed the crash around 2/3rds in.

@RabidChinchilla, there are two problems with that thinking. Vickers already escaped from the pods during that crash and there seems to be other pods too. So yes, there are other ships. I don't think it is just one ship which is going to crash with no escape plan, humans no matter what have escape plans in every situation.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

@Sky
There is not one problem at all with his thinking?
There may be other ships, or alternatives; but this equally well could be an act of selfless heroism using the biggest and only significant weapon that they have.
It's a space vehicle, not a missile, so, presumably, it would have to be manually piloted to it's own destruction onto a target that was moving.
Also, dramatically, that carries a bigger punch - sometimes you only get to choose the best of exclusively bad options.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to think we humans are prepared for every possible scenario.

MVMK1979-
I NEVER assumed the crash was at the end of the film. I've only assumed that Sir Ridley was going to serve up a phenomenal sci-fi film with MANY surprises and thrills. Praying for these things.
I guess so many trailers have revealed crucial plot points that it's assumed that the totality of a film can always be divined from them. I expect more from a film maker of Ridley Scott's calibre. Counting on it, in fact.

I think of it along the lines of the Star Trek movie (2009). Captain George Kirk decides to go down with his ship and rams the Romulan ship. He orders everyone else to abandon ship in escape pods. In this case, we only see Vickers taking off. The other two co-pilots appear to stay at their posts. The heroic sacrifice of the captain. There really isn't enough time to calculate out all the scenarios for Janek. The juggernaut is taking off.
I really think there really isn't another way to get home. Just escape and wait for the rescue, that may nor may not ever come.

The crashing ship isnt the only way to survive, thats why on the Weyland site they have a section on:
THE LIFEBOAT
Exclusively designed for FTL crafts of a suitable size, this emergency sustaining pod is an embedded safety module comprised of 7 luxury-appointed rooms, complete with independent navigation and piloting controls. Reclaiming decontamination system allows one occupant 50 years of breathable air with or without hypersleep.
