David is the 8th generation so that means there have to be 7 more somewhere.

i understood it as David SERIES 8. a production line model, there could be legions of 'em a la Phantom Menace. Boo Hoo!!! you wouldn't spend untold millions on R&D and then only build 1 would you?

I'm going to add to all this by suggesting that the '8' in David's name doesn't necessarily refer to his generation or model; rather, something else. And for those who still don't get it...you know, 8 is BIGGER than 7, right?

It would make sense for them to take more than one on the flight in case of malfunction and mutiple task during flight
