However.. i cant help thinking i am going to be disappointed by prometheus
It will be quite a different kind of movie to Alien - to me, that is a masterpiece. It is superbly paced, atmospheric, a real tense thriller, and at the time (well actually to this day) it presents some staggeringly original concepts that well, i just dont think can be surpassed.
The plot of Alien was real simple, with one or two subplots. But from what i have seen and read here of Prometheus, it seems like it is trying to be too much. I think Alien was made as a niche movie, it shocked in its day and gained cult following. A bit like Terminator and comparing that to the rest of the T franchise.
Anyhow, and i want to be wrong on this, i think Prometheus looks a it too glossy, too elaborate, like it is trying too hard because it is trying to come out of the shadow of Alien. ANd, significantly, the Studio sees a cow that it wants to milk. But i guess that is 21st century commercialism (and consumerism!).

I was born in the year of many peoples Lord 1979. The year of the Alien [that didn't sound quite right...]

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2012 3:47 PM...i agree with takka...well to an extent....seeing as i myself has contributed to such threads and even created one or two a while back....either speculate or add a spoiler....but even speculation is seen as spoilers lately!...lol
Such negativity i see lately.....it's just a movie.....some of u will be disappointed....no matter how gifted Ridley is....he cannot possibly cater to everybody's needs....if u ask around, u will find even sci-fi fans who hated the original Alien....so blessed as that movie was IMO....it still did'nt cater for everyone....and no movie ever will!...period!....i just know i am gonna love it tho....even if some of my favorite characters does not make it to the end....that's the only thing that might spoil it for me.....but only slightly!?

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2012 3:50 PM@David_1; Let's rename year 1979 as "Year of Facehug" :D

True friend. IMHO, there is [to this date] only two major SciFi movies: 2001 and Dune.
Since Alien is a Space Horror flick [and a superb one], I put it aside in the 3rd pedestal.
As for Prometheus, I stated that I'm in it for the Aesthetics of it, so, even if I were told everything before watching it, it wouldn't ruin it for me at all.
Granted: There are some nasty people in this forum. Both Trolls and Haters [grammar "teachers" and attention seeking ones included]

Attention whore... did someone call my name?
I've only done 3 measley threads here & I'm lucky they've got the posts they did, considering how virally fast new threads pop up on this site...
Why am I here? I'm so scared of Prometheus I'll probably end up not seeing it...unless I can drag others to go with me.
This facehugger needs someone to cling to...

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2012 5:21 PM@ Sky - I agree with you. My son is 15 years old, and he pretty much thinks that any old film, and when he says old, he's referring to anything in the 80's on back, is bad. You see, he measures a film's worth (or TV series) by its special effects. I don't fault him for this, because he's young and dumb. I'm sure that as he gets older, his appreciation for these older films will change. For example, he loves the new Battlestar Galactica. I tried getting him to watch the pilot of the original series and he said, "Tom, can we change this? This is way boring."

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2012 5:24 PMAlso, he measures a good film by its amount of action. So for him, the original Alien is boring in comparison to Aliens. However, I think Alien is a masterpiece and far exceeds Aliens on multiple levels. I'm hoping that Prometheus can capture that same kind of magic.

And I concede: you don't have to have the xenomorph to make a great Sci-Fi horror film.

I have to say this please forgive the "off topicness" here but....
@azalard
I am blown away by your comment and I feel deeply touched by it. I think it takes a special kind of human being NOT to have thoughts like those...BUT to be gracious enough and enlightened enough as a human being enough to share them.
Cheers man I hope you have a terriffic weekend.

AdminPraetorianMay-19-2012 2:27 AMWell. I also know older people who can be snooty about newer films, saying stuff like "they don't make 'em like they did in my day" or "all CGI is cheap and lazy" bla bla. It goes both ways.
I know plenty of kids, as young as 14, who are very into older movies and quality movies. It is not about age it's about taste.

You got that right....Seen a lot of films in the past that should be cut up and sold as ukulele picks and I continue to see great movies to this day that are true to their material.
The skateboarding 12 yr old across the street is into Boorman, Peckinpah, and Coppola films....and Led Zepplin..go figure
