i am a fanboy but not nearly as worthy as many on these forums However.. i cant help thinking i am going to be disappointed by prometheus It will be quite a different kind of movie to Alien - to me, that is a masterpiece. It is superbly paced, atmospheric, a real tense thriller, and at the time (well actually to this day) it presents some staggeringly original concepts that well, i just dont think can be surpassed. The plot of Alien was real simple, with one or two subplots. But from what i have seen and read here of Prometheus, it seems like it is trying to be too much. I think Alien was made as a niche movie, it shocked in its day and gained cult following. A bit like Terminator and comparing that to the rest of the T franchise. Anyhow, and i want to be wrong on this, i think Prometheus looks a it too glossy, too elaborate, like it is trying too hard because it is trying to come out of the shadow of Alien. ANd, significantly, the Studio sees a cow that it wants to milk. But i guess that is 21st century commercialism (and consumerism!).

Oh, another one of THOSE posts. Can we just make a rule that any of the following types of posts are automatically locked? 1 - Prometheus is gonna be great! 2 - Prometheus is gonna suck! 3 - I can't wait to see Prometheus! 4 - Don't spoil Prometheus for me! 5 - I'm leaving until after I see Prometheus! They are all equally useless threads, devoid of any valuable information.

@adcc I am increasingly worried that you have a point, especially as I read these posts. If most of the people on these boards have made passable observations about the plot an audience can expect, this movie is going to be a bigger convoluted mess than INCEPTION. I can only hope that Ridley Scott hasn't lost his mojo; that he won't be delivering the equivalent of a doctorate-level course in a subject that is, to this day, basically fantastic in nature. Put more simply, I hope he's stayed true to form and kept the story deceptively simple and the characters engrossingly complex. The richest folklore and mythology isn't aimed at making the divine pedestrian...on the contrary, it makes the pedestrian divine. Let us just pray for the best in the meantime, yes?

We didn't fall in love with the "universe," per say; we fell in love with the Alien itself, and the idea behind it. That's why I think the writer of this column is thinking that he might end up being disappointed. If we're "in love" with one aspect of the original, then it'll be hard for some of us to adjust to a whole new aspect.

adccl8z: "I am a fanboy but not nearly as worthy as many on these forums" that one was gold, friend. I'm a Fan of the man's work and that's it. Don't care much about canon-ish stuff. Takka: So, in your opinion, no one should express their thoughts. Right? Not wanting to sound rude, but your comment was a little bit... pointless.

I will NOT be disappointed, unless someone here holds me down and whispers the sequence of events that unfold in the film into my ear before I actually see them. My self-fulfilling prophecy is to enjoy the hell out of it, whatever it is. If it is a miserable failure, I'll even find something worthwhile in that. Le roi est mort. Vive le roi !

This new movie will be more related to von daniken than to 'Alien'. You should read his stuff to get aquainted with where they will be going with this.

@Svanya, I think age does matter. Ask any person born after 90's to critic alien or any old sci-fi movie. CGI expectation of 90's generation is pretty much high IMO.

Sky: I was born in the year of many peoples Lord 1979. The year of the Alien [that didn't sound quite right...]

...i agree with takka...well to an extent....seeing as i myself has contributed to such threads and even created one or two a while back....either speculate or add a spoiler....but even speculation is seen as spoilers lately!...lol Such negativity i see lately.....it's just a movie.....some of u will be disappointed....no matter how gifted Ridley is....he cannot possibly cater to everybody's needs....if u ask around, u will find even sci-fi fans who hated the original Alien....so blessed as that movie was IMO....it still did'nt cater for everyone....and no movie ever will!...period!....i just know i am gonna love it tho....even if some of my favorite characters does not make it to the end....that's the only thing that might spoil it for me.....but only slightly!?

@David_1; Let's rename year 1979 as "Year of Facehug" :D

Juxtapose: True friend. IMHO, there is [to this date] only two major SciFi movies: 2001 and Dune. Since Alien is a Space Horror flick [and a superb one], I put it aside in the 3rd pedestal. As for Prometheus, I stated that I'm in it for the Aesthetics of it, so, even if I were told everything before watching it, it wouldn't ruin it for me at all. Granted: There are some nasty people in this forum. Both Trolls and Haters [grammar "teachers" and attention seeking ones included]

Attention whore... did someone call my name? I've only done 3 measley threads here & I'm lucky they've got the posts they did, considering how virally fast new threads pop up on this site... Why am I here? I'm so scared of Prometheus I'll probably end up not seeing it...unless I can drag others to go with me. This facehugger needs someone to cling to...
