MemberOvomorphMay 18, 2012One of the things I hope we get in Prometheus is death scenes that are very realistic with respect to the reactions of the dying character and the witnesses. It's not that I enjoy watching people die, but what's a roller coaster if it doesn't really dangle you over a precipice? Anyway, the point is the more real it feels, the more of a thrill it will be and I rarely see a movie with death scenes that freak me out.
How do you guys feel about this subject and which scenes in which movies are your favorites?

@Ruhaniya
I always thought the scene in your avatar from Starship Troopers was a pretty gruesome scenario. Getting your brains sucked out like a milkshake

I think i need to mention there is a scene in the first Scanners movie where a dude in a lecture hall's head explodes after being invaded by telepaths, and this is an OLD movie. it was pretty shocking and gory for the time. The movie The Thing also has some crazy stuff that happens to live and dead people.

Saving private ryan when the storm trooper kills the American grunt with the knife whispering "Shhhhhhhhhhh" and the kid getting killed in Henry, portrait of a serial killer. By the way, I hate torture porn, (Hostel, Ichi the killer) even slasher movies, though I allways read reviews and recomend them to my friends! Gore has got to catch me off guard, then I enjoy it, but for some strange reason I don't go looking for it.

not a sci-fi flick, but definitely one of the least pleasant ways to die...

BTW, the most beautiful, spiritually uplifting is Roy Batty's in Blade Runner, and now, I die, as his "spirit in the form of the dove leaves his body. I only had to watch it around 25 times before the spiritual implications hit me.

Well they're not death-scenes, but I've seen some disturbing, discomforting shit in the movie Antichrist. It's a Danish horror movie released in 2009, banned in several countries throughout Europe and, I think, even banned in the United States. There are a couple of scenes that you'd think wouldn't possibly be allowed to be shown in cinema, that, as far as I'm concerned, you could only imagine in the darkest, most perverted regions of your subconsciousness. I won't detail them; just check the Wikipedia article and read the synopsis, unless any of you guys here have already seen it.

Ooo, 28 Weeks Later. Indeed that was an awesome scene. You could see Don was trying to fight it (who could fight it?), but Alice called his name and Don decided to give in and take it all out on Alice, who is strapped down, unable to do anything except receive a savage, messy end to her life.
I still think the eye-gouge was a throwback to 28 Days Later, despite what the audio-commentary claims.

These are all awesome. I've seen a lot of them, but some are new to me.
One that caught me by surprise was pyramid head ripping off that girls skin in Silent Hill. He does it so casually, no dramatic pause or anything, and the girls face really looks like she is in pain right when he grabs a fistfull of her skin. I had to watch that one a few times.

@whiskuz, thanks for reminding me of that SICK movie that I couldn't stop watching! That scene caught me off guard, along with the sheriff bake and barbed wire douche, ouch. There was some funky Italian film, I think Suspiria that was kind of jacked up too. I have an aversion to barbed wire and razors now. I saw previews for some Spa of death movie where everybody in the spa got yuckied, didn't watch it based on previews, very gory. I think the deaths that suck the most is like what was happenning to Dallas (turning into a face hugger, and skeleton key, knowing whats happening to you and having time to think about it. I say if I can't go peacefully in my sleep, make it quick!!!

Well, the ending of "Martyrs" is one of the most disturbing "death scenes" that I've ever seen...it's not that it's overly bloody, or painful looking, but it's the most disturbing one psychologically and physically. See it if you haven't...and see it in the original French before it gets made into some stupid Americanized version (which I think they're working on)...

the guy spacing himself in the airlock in outland. and the air lock is full of exploded entrails. its pretty grusome.

.....maybe not the most disgusting scene ever but one that made me jump so bad i spilled my coke and popcorn all over the place....in the first grudge movie when that chinese chick goes up to the celler holding the lighter and that white faced mother ghost rips her yaw off...you don't see what happens......but later in the movie when you see the ghost minus her bottom yaw......you can pretty much figure out what happened.....but i nearly shat myself....for some reason that is one of the few movies that ever left me awake....oh and the transformation scene in American werewolf in london.
Disturbing movies scene's would be that scene where they bludgeon Joe peschi to half to death and then bury him alive!....also some scenes from the blob!

otto:
Martyrs - every bit as disturbing as it is brilliant. And the ending sticks with you for a looong time.
and you're right, it'll get watered down and ruined if it gets Americanized. I can't think of ONE horror film, from Let the Right One In to REC to The Vanishing to [enter name here], that wasn't ruined by an American remake.
