Don't confuse prometheus with Aliens!

Prometheus is a stand alone movie....created for everyone to enjoy....(well those above 13 or 15 or whatever the rules are in your country) Point is if u have never seen Alien before or any of the sequels...The plot of Prometheus should still make perfect sense...for those whom are Alien fanboys (like myself)....we cannot seriously expect fox and Ridley to spend 150 million dollars on a movie that's purely made for fans and also has a plot that ties directly to a film made 33 yrs ago....with a R rating on top of that!??? The general public does'nt give a shit where the derelict ship or the eggs came from..period! So just a quick reality check...forget about Alien...this is a new story only set in the same universe....it's not gonna fully cater for the hardcore Alien fan that's seen the classic like a 100 times!

Well it's the same director, and he's following the same artistic vein. And it has a lead strong female character at the center. and Weyland is part of both stories, and space jockeys...other than that COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

The thing is there will be more of a handful who will be scouring every minute of PROMETHEUS searching for those ALIEN bread crumbs trying to prove that this movie is a absolute prequel. All I can say is happy hunting, and please don't take a massive turd on this or any forums complaining if you're successful. That is all! =))

@ Shawluv:D ...i know...but it must be a gigantic challenge to please both parties ....the hard core fans and the general public....i think this kinda movie has to go beyond the fear we encountered in Alien....you have to compensate...perhaps even over compensate to get it to really make an impact on todays audiences....i love that it got that R rating...i think it might even boost sales and i hope it is a huge commercial success....i think Ridley deserves it! Right now i am just rooting for the characters....I don't want anyone to die (with the exception of Holloway)...but sadly i think if their is any survivors...it's only gonna be shaw....boo- hoo!!..;(

I don't think it's going to be too hard to make connections. Crap, they even used the same slow reveal of the film's title in the previews.

....@hephaesta....yeah but purely for the fans....don't get me wrong...i for one want those connections....but it it has to also cater to those whom are not familiar to the alien universe..(to be fair)....i mean i dont wanne have to sit on the road back home and explain to my friend/partner why this or that happened and that he should go check Alien to truly understand the plot!

@Jux...oh yeah, we're on the same page, then. I'm sure that this film has been arranged with enough nods to The Canon (so to speak) that dorks like me can smirk at the story within the story, but it will surely work as a stand-alone effort as well. Complete agreement.

Ridley Scott could have very well returned to the sci-fi theatre without any ambiguous reference to the Alien franchise. Take care everyone.

As i said in my threads.... I think thats the way we best look at it.... Like Batman 1989-1997 Anthology compared to the Dark Knight Trilogy..... I dont think its going for a reboot as such, even though yes the above is kind of a reboot. And i dont think its going for a Star Trek DS9 compared to Voyager link.... Thus it would be canon, but then set apart and so not exactly canon/link to the Alien Franchise.

Alien , Aliens, Alien III, Alien iV -- Alien versus Predators I, II -- Aliens Dark Horse Comix --- and then Prometheus. It will be [i]artistically[/i] a standalone but [i]of course in many ways[/i] connect into Alien someway..that cant be avoided for some reasons, I mean if you have to tell a story about SJ..
