Box Office Fight - Prometheus vs. Snow White

My vote is on Prometheus. Not that I have anything against Snow White and the huntsman as my wife and I plan to see it as well. But in my hometown, Prometheus is the hot topic amongst Sci-fi fans. As is the announced sequel to Blade Runner.

Right Said Brett: I do agree with you on that. Was just curious as the certificate for Prometheus is R (15) and Snow White is Pg-13 (12a) but both have substantially large followings with the alien fans and sci-fi enthusiasts rooting for Prometheus and the twilight and thor fans and generally younger people aiming for Snow White. Just wondering if there is a potential tussle as both movies will fill seats greatly.

In our current trend of markets movies like prometheus won't score big initially. The cult following individuals like ourselves we will see it twice at least three for me. It will take couple of weeks and positive reviews to actually gain traction among none alien series fans. There will be an increase in Alien series rentals and sales once it's released, depending on reviews. I think for the numbers to even be close to box office hits Prometheus will need a prolonged theater stay. Films usually only stay in theater for three to four months before studios prep for the second stage of the their profit making which is DVD sales. I believ Prometheus will give us fans all we want, but I don't think it'll generate a mass following such as avengers or other summer block busters

i have actually found considering the rating and subject matter of the film it has certainly gained a lot of media attention in all consideration. I have actually noticed more publicity for prometheus than snow white until recently. Prometheus has an 'Alien' following and with Ridley Scott at the helm ensures quality as well as no AVP crap. Where as Snow White is, okay a well-known scenario, but also done to death and has no real fanbase thats focused except on its actors - Kristen Stewart (Twilight) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor).

Don't forget about Madascar 3. The kiddies could put a little bit of a dent in Prometheus's box office. I think Snow White needs to get raving reviews to beat Prometheus after being out one week already. Mixed reviews for Prometheus could hurt it as well. Granted the loyal will check Prometheus out, the general public needs to hear crazy good things about it to go see it instead of Snow White.

Lets just hope and (we probably know) Prometheus is going to be a huge success and becomes a hit, for the maker's of course. I actually couldnt care less how much the film makes as long as it is in my own opinion amazing and terrifying but would like RS to get the money back as he deserves it for putting the effort in to return and expand a huge sci-fi universe. Plus a sequel (or "Independant tie-in movie") as we should call it comes along if the film is successful.

now that you think of it the creature in promethus is probable the wirrns cousin and takes over the peopl the same way. it better not or i'm gonna be upset.

I wanna say Prometheus for sure...yea snow white will get the lil emo teens going an M3 will have the kids, but for Prometheus you got a base of people who feel in love with the series 25 YEARS ago, that'll spark them to move again an get up to see a movie that scared the living hell out them..yea I think PRO is going to take it.

Snow White & The Huntsman will most likely pummel any / all films that are in it's path. i would LOVE for PROMETHEUS to completely obliterate any / all of it's competing films, but SWATH has had far more heavy TV airtime promotion at least that is how is has been here in Lost Angeles time will tell.....

Although i wish Prometheus would rule the box office. I think snow white is aimed at a larger crowd then Prometheus and its also more "Kid" friendly. I understand why the producers only offered 150 mil vs. 250 mil for the movie. In all honestly rated R movies usually dont make as much as PG-13

If I had to place a bet on which of those 2 movies would gross higher opening weekend, I would have to go with Snow White over Prometheus with a split probably between 60/40 or 70/30. ... and here's why: Snow White has the teen and young adult girls audience along with the name recognition of "Snow White" in the title. Name recognition beats everything else; it's amazingly simple. Prometheus will have internet nerds, movie buffs, and people who actually sort of know what the movie is about. The general audience is unfamiliar with a title like "Prometheus" and the trailers present it as a sorta-kinda sci-fi horror movie. Since the creature has been kept under wraps for so long, the general audience doesn't know that it's a creature feature.

.....really looking forward to both movies....Prometheus obviously my favorite amongst the two.....If Snow-white did not have Theron i would probably wait for it's release on Dvd.....I would not underestimate the commercial success of Prometheus tho.....sci-fi and horror generally does well at the box office and their is a lot of older people around....and i think the "R" might actually generate interest rather than hurt the movie?

I think that Prometheus will open with a 50-55 million in the US domestic market in the first weekend.

I think Snow White will make more overall at the box office. I guess £350-400million worldwide, and Prometheus probably getting around £250million. As 1. It has a higher viewer rating and 2. Even though it's obviously gonna be the best film in years, it's not as popular as "Snow White".
