Pessimistic Preparations

Since then I've been unable to convince people that one film has remained as my absolute favorite for so long and from such a young age. I try to describe it by saying everyone has a movie that just 'clicks' with them, and for me it was Alien.
I'm obvsiouly a huge film-buff as well and usually have no qualms about spoilers, early-reviews, over-exposing trailers until this movie came along. Prometheus is giving me anxiety. All I can think about is "oh god, what if it's awful". This started when I was with some friends who were talking about Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The trailer looked awesome, same director, everyone was hyped and convinced it wouldn't suck, those poor people. I hold Ridley in a higher regard above Mr. Lucas to start, but the parallel is still there.
So i'm trying to prepare myself for the absolute worst case scenario. The American release is on my birthday (some cosmic hilarity I think) which isn't helping the scenario. Does anyone else share my fears? Because i'm horrifically afraid of a Phantom Menace scenario. Plus the push for a Blade Runner sequel is setting off an alarm in my brain. What if this is a cash in instead of Ridley trying to redeem a once great franchise? This is seriously making me paranoid to the extent that i'm going to have to laser off my Alien tattoo in shame and depression.
Any opinions on the matter?
(well, at least it can't be as awful as the AVP's. Right?)
