The Engineer's will talk. Subtitles or human, David narrating? What will their v

I have allways insisted that the Sacrificial Engineer was decomposing at the water fall, it seemed so obvious of deconstruction, not reconstruction, with top back part of head collapsing in on itself and entropy to body as it gazes at the effect of the ancient elixer on its hands and arms in fascination, wonderment. That scene has allways amazed me, as I saw a creature who seemed to be invincible willingly accepting it's fate, either for a greater purpose, like being abandoned by the big disc shaped spacecraft at the waterfall because of rescources running out (Dying race theory), or possibly him being an Engineer contaminated by his own mistake, and being effectively quarantined, dropped off by compassionate crewmembers on an uninhabited world to live out the effects of his mistake. He seems to be looking upon himself with no fear, just curiosity at his demise. I came to this conclusion based mostly on Vickers speach stating all kings have their reign, and then they die, it's ineviteble, that seemed to suggest power, and willingness on the part of the Enginer to accept his fate. I did not see the first human, as others have suggested or David, Holloway etc, based on his statuesque, godlike structure, hairless body and bearing of an engineer. In hindsight he will probably be some beings "Adam", if not ours. It is now known through the interview, and I am not here to say whether said interview with actor who plays Sacrificial Engineer is legitimate or not, if you do know of it's legitimacy or illegitimacy, enlighten me, he will have lines that he had to remember in an alien dialect close to the filming of that scene. Do you think that we will have subtitles as the Elder Engineers on the saucer bestow this honor on him and he accepts and does his ritual at the water fall, or we will just get a human voice narrating, or possibly David explaining the proccess later after being familiarized with their language? Weyland industries also has that nifty language translator that I would take on a voyage beyond our system. Can you imagine if the warning in Alien from the Derilect ship in Alien is tied to this. Nostromo navigator Lambert said that the warning sounded like a voice, or speech.

According to an actor who potrays an Engineer, he sacrifices himself at a waterfall scene by drinking an ancient elixer that disolves his body which goes into the water making a primordial DNA soup, combining with other building blocks in the water on that planet, essentially creating life, seeding the planet with their genetic makeup, leading to the rise of humanoid, sentient beings, thats why the cave drawings show the Engineers being worshipped, possibly from visiting their creations in the past.

(((( Pinging Sukkal )))) I think he is interested into this thread or on the subject line.

I actually prefer that if they speak, that we dont get many subtitles if any. I like the sense of mystery Scott has helped create with this, and many questions would persist from it.

The SJ's are apparently Scousers. Ridley mentioned it in an early interview.

I'm wondering if, like in other cinema, they start with their voices and at some time either switch to "human" or use the translator from Weyland Industries, and if the translator attempts to catch their nuances and emotions, or is just spitting out data, or a GPS Garmen type "turn right st the next street" universal nice voice.

I don't mind subtitles, but I think the best plot device for this situation would either be david translating, or it just alien language not being translated at all.

I am going to hate myself for asking, but what's a Scouser?

The interview with the sacrifice engineer said that he learned a few lines in an alien language.

@Karstenphd Google it - they're people from Liverpool with a very broad accent (like me haha). Unless you're from England, you'll probably fail to see the humour in this.

Thanks ADH0983. I know this is off topic but my boss is from your neck of the woods, and after ZetaReticuli spoke of weetwbix during our discussion of Dickie being eaten by skeletal beings, I generally ask him to interpret for me, (breakfast cereal) but I'm off work today. I'm from the U.S. and have allways been obsessed with all things from the United Kingdon, from being a kid and watching Monty Python, Fry and Laurie, etc. and wanting to listen to Pink Floyd on my deathbed. The beatles, coldplay, Sting etc motivate me when I create characters for my stories. I've even got a can of Spotted Dick in my pantry! We don't have weetabix and spotted dick here, but thanks for the explanation and I can probably guess why!

@karstenphd I actually live in the states, and I CAN get Weetabix at Trader Joe's here! Nobody in the UK eats spotted dick hahahaha. I live in LA and there's loads of English shops where I can go buy food that you otherwise wouldn't be able find anywhere else. I lived in NYC before here and I was always able to go to an English shop nearby and find Weetabix and all English food. Do a Google search and you may find something nearby.....

I am still wondering how the Engineers will react to us when they do encounter us. Will it be taboo for them to even acknowledhe us? I am sure Sir Ridley will make it have the most impact whether we are beneath even talking to them, they say one word to us, or David, or have as much dialogue human characters, discussing us amongst themselves or speaking directly to us via translator. I will love to see the Engineers in real time talking and going about their day to day activities at some timeline, even watching and listening to the holographic "ghost" that seem to be rife in this film. Wouldn't it be cool if David is actually monitoring activity on another craft Engineer via their communication system, kinda eavsdropping on them without their knowledge.

if the engineers created human life, i see no reason why they cant talk. i think we are talking about God-like creatures. I think its a given they can communicate with humans. Some of the Alien Dark Horse comics set directly after "Aliens" suggest the engineers can communicate through telapathy. yes, i know its comics, but some of those stories were well respected in the Alien universe. i think telapathy is the bare minimum (with voiceovers appearing in the filmso the audience knows what the engineers are saying)

Good question Otto, If I post it on the normal Prometheus talk board and staff say it is, it is. I just havn't posted it there because of the fact that my source is out of a magazine article, not official trailer that you can see on the tele or movie theater. I don't think everyone agrees 100% on what is and is not a spoiler. Staff, fellow members, can I post this on the regular discuss Prometheus board?

I think we have allready heard an Engineer clearly screaming the words " Cut it off, cut it off !!!" during a sound montage focusing on shaw, possibly after being awakened from hyper sleep and thinking one of his shipmates left a space TV on in the crouisant due to all the racket the humas make stomping around their ship.
