The 2009 U.K. Sunday Times estimated Ridley Scott's worth at $172 million American dollars.
By (somewhat sickening) contrast...
Rupert Murdoch's net worth (according to Forbes' 2011 listing of the richest people in the world) is estimated at 8.3 billion.
That's a nauseating number.

I said nothing about hatred about Ridley or Murdoch, what does that have to do with this anyway, why get so worked up? It's just a movie! It's not like you're going to die or something if someone has an opposing view! All I was doing was answering your statement about Ridley being able to buy Fox, hmmmmmm.......Murdoch's net worth is almost 8 billion dollars, Ridley is just 180 million, somehow I don't think so. I don't hate either one of them and I really don't think that either one of them are hated in the U.S., not sure where you are from, but I'm pretty sure the whole world doesn't hate either one of them. A whole lot worst people out there than either one of those.
I really doubt that Ridley Scott has the money that Rupert Murdoch has. He owns 20th Century Fox.
OH YEA....?....
You missed my point with all due respect...his money MEANS NOTHING wIth respect to any of the Alien Films and if he even tried to make that so in a "Court of Law" he'd lose so bad half his fortune would be gone by the time SCOTT GOT THROUGH WITH HIM. And the best part is this man has made almost all of his money through exploitation and cheating and lies and deception and everyone who knows him even personally says this about him, he is an evil evil man who would have zero chance of ever effecting any changes in the Completely Ridley Scott Dominated and Created Alien Universe. No mater how much of his fortune he threw at it...which again would be lost in a Jockeys Heartbeat! NO court on this f'n earth would rule in favor on just about anything for that guy..ever!

oh and i am not worked up in any way what so ever, just telling it like it is...Creative control on this thing is 100% HIS and the price the studios Almost ALWAYS pay when bringing in a Director of this stature and nature, The Budget Man...with all due respect...that's it...they have complete control over the BUDGET !!! With regard to Prometheus they have already stated publically that that right there is exactly where it all ended for the suits at Fox. Their Budget For the Film !!!

for me the worst part of it isn't how much, it's how he made every dime of it ! To the Degree that the Eagles for 5 years straight on their farewell tour featured songs dedicated to him such as "All She Wants to Do Is Dance" fueled completely by their disdain and hatred for that man!!!
May 23, 2012
100% agreed Spartacus! As for AvP, he probably tries to black out the memory and pretend they don't even exist like so many of us.
The concept in ALIEN was so "out-there" that it made it incredibly creepy. You get slowly turned into an egg? Alive? WTF? That's horrible. I don't like alien-as-bug. That's putting things into our understandable realm. It's a downgrade conceptually.
Also, I don't want to veer to far off-topic but Jelbright touched on something I'd like answered. Why did Cameron add a "d" to Weylan? Why was that needed? to make it more his own? Seems frivolous.

There is a discussion here somewhere on that but I am not sure I can find it cause it was in an off topic sidebar in that thread I believe but I will try to find it for you.

A COINCIDENCE PERHAPS...
OR NOT?
PLOT IS IDENTICAL TO 2002 PUBLISHED AUTHOR
The writer has mirrored 2002 published works from author Wayne Herschel called The Hidden Records. Its all on line since 2002. Yes different stars but same plot same human origin message.
This repeating series of ancient alien human origin star maps has been on Coast to Coast radio too.
Even if this authors work is no more than just a theory... its identical

And my questions are...
What the hell is the damn canon?...
Is that what the fans want?...
Do what Mr. Ridley wants?...
Do what Fox wants?...
and finally ¿Alien and Prometheus will be the only canon?...
May 24, 2012
Some might say, is it just a crazy claim this movie is based on a real story...
Just google ...
ANCIENT STAR MAPS
May 24, 2012
And will Coors now be the official canon beer for all Alien movies/games/books? This is a very important question. Because every time I think about a snake sliding up my ass, I will think, "It's time for a beer. Coors, the official beer of space jockeys everywhere."

RS as a movie director is dependent on the producers´ investment capital as any other director. As a advertising agency CEO 20 years ago he was dependent on this capital, too..even if RS is a millionaire, doesnt mean he is liable with his personal capital..doesnt make sense whatsoever, with over 200 million dollars production costs.
@canon..dont forget RS is doing this interview as part of an promotion campaign, and hes quite good with his product placement. Hes rolling drums. I dont think he disrespects Cameron completely for doin Aliens, Cameron stated ago that he is the biggest Alien fan..
RS says, only Alien is cannon.OK, hes the director of the original, first movie. That doesnt mean Aliens, A3, resurrection arent bad films.
May 24, 2012
The spacejockey in Alien is the canon. This is the great unanswered part of the story that RS wanted to answer.
Maybe his whole 'where did we come from' premise is a jab at the fact that the Alien franchise in the state that it is now, came from him, and he's the only one that can explain anything that came before it.
The rest of the franchise had their merits in places, and I think AvP got carried away with the universe that had already been told in novel and comic form, but even then they failed in really doing those justice.
I'm not sure Scott ever thought he would get this opportunity to draw a line under all of Cameron's later efforts
May 24, 2012
Then Alien and Prometheus are the only canon, but what if they are different canons? as parallel stories or star alone...
May 27, 2012
new here, but not new to the whole franchise. there may be intellectual rights and other arguments going on...but "BATMAN BEGINS" and "THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN" and "SUPERMAN RETURNS" all got re-vamped...who's to say that the ALIEN arc doesn't go that way too? all the sequels were based upon an interpretation and the end result is up for $$$$$$.
May 27, 2012
but RS don't need the almighty $$$ when he's got plenty. He's hinted in many interviews how he was offended when one of hit greatest hits got "karoaked" a few too many times...he put a lot of disinfo on two prequels....one may open doors to ALIEN universe or may not and the way he talks about Bladerunner and never doing a sequel to his own movie...he leaves questions...
point being...i hope he does justice for the BATMAN FOREVER attack on the ALIEN arc
