The last 8.

MemberOvomorphMay 25, 20121118 Views15 RepliesScott has said that the last 8 to 10 minutes of the film tie into Alien. Scott said it was something to the effect of, sure, I get it now, kind of tie in moment.
So...thats not a whole lot of film time to tie the story into Alien. I just do not buy that Scott would blow that moment by showing any of it in the trailers. So I throw out the cobra hugger, the birth of the creature, the attack of the creature and the SJ, I dont think any of those moments are the great reveal or tie in.
So what is it? is it a look inside the smashed up Alien craft and all of the ampules have spilled to create an egg? Would Scott be that obvious?
Or will he be more clever, a time reference or a distress signal?
last thought, How does Scott explain why nobody else has followed the prometheus to the LV223?

I have a serious concern about this last 8min statement. Simply on the basis that a lot of films, especially 'Usual Suspects' and 'Seven'. Although they have a great ending, it is like the punchline to a joke, once you have heard it where do you go from there. I hope that the story line for Prometheus has a lot more originality than that. To go down that route, I feel would be a cop out.
At the end of the day the last 8 mins has to tie everything up. To have something that is weak is not going to happen, simply too much has been invested in this project.

the following is taken directly from an interview with David Lindelof:

"Prometheus will NOT end with the derelict full of eggs crashlanding"
they are not going to give you something you already guessed, Actually that is exactly what it sounds like they are trying to avoid.

Ugh, Lets not simply make a prequal but a movie that will have a sequal that is actually the prequal to a movie that we all love. :( Money

I agree,
They have actually done both, on one hand they have made it clear the last 8 to 10 have some importance or connection, yet they are adamant not to expect the xeno in the corner. Good for them, i think that would be a rotten cop out as well.
So it will be clever, I wonder if it has to do with Shaw surviving? We have seen the clip of company men waking her up from what looks to be hypersleep.

@Mostly What clip is this? I'm sure I've seen but must not have been aware it was company men waking her.

There has been a lot of debate and also a lot of contradicting words from Ridley and Lindelof.....
It depends on what they claim is a Direct Prequel.....
If you filmed your holiday from the moment you booked into your Hotel.
A Direct Prequel of your last Holiday in Spain would show you on the plane in London, on the Flight and then landing in Spain before last scene is is you driving to your hotel and arive at its Reception.
This is Direct..... but if it showed you booking your Holiday at Travel Agents, then go to Airport to Collect you Tickets and Check in... this may not be so Direct....
Basically i think they mean we will not see the Derelict Crash on LV426, we will not see no Cargo of Eggs, we do not see no Chest Burster inside the Space Jokey etc....
Does that mean....
1) This Derelict does not land on LV 426... nope
2) This planet LV 223 does not become LV 426..... nope
3) That the Derelict does not have any Eggs on it.... nope
4) That the Engineer does not pilot the ship in Alien... nope
5) That what ever evolves in this movie does not become the Proto Xeno....nope
We just dont know, those things could still happen just not shown, for example that ship could already have the Egg Chamber on board, but the crew never find it and we never see it, we may even get no hint of it but that does not mean it wont be there.
We just dont know, i think its going to give us clues that can help us Assume more and get more of a answer than we did after we watched Alien.
Ridley said that after the last 8 mins, we would get a explanation and when Alien fans see those 8 mins at the end of the movie we would go like Christ! of course i get it now...
The biggest question is always regarding the Xeno Orgins.... we will see the Space Jockey Race explained, we will see the Derelict type ship and learn of some of its functions.
The explanation Ridley must be on about must be either...
1) Creation/Orgin of the Xeno.
2) A Explanation to what it (Derelict) was carrying and why.
And it has to be something quite obvious for us to go "Christ! i get it now" But then we do have Lindelof on board and his movie writting would be like watching Total Recall for the First Time, pissed and off your face on a combination of Drugs.....
Then asked next day... so what was Total Recall about.....
There are clues....
Lindelof on one hand said "we wont see Derelict full of Eggs" (does not mean ship already has them, we just wont see). Or that either this is not he ship that has those Eggs, or it is before any Eggs got on board.
My the same time he also said "the movie is about the Progenitor" (now that could mean how Ape to Man, or Chicken to Egg).
Ridley said that the last 8 mins would explain the events of Alien and we would see Alien DNA in that scene and it would leave Alien Fanboys happy and get their wish.
Ridley also said that the movie is where "Mommy meets Daddy"
Now unless he is messing with our heads, it would be safe to assume his comment and Lindelofs are regarding what we would see is something that is either... or that we would link with, what would have created those Eggs the Proto Xeno, however we would see it at a stage prior to it creating any Eggs....
There will definately in their eyes, be something that we can draw a link to Alien with and by Alien i would say how/what started the chain of events that leads to the Xeno and its Cycle that we all loved.

it is interesting that the part "for the fanboys" is the least interesting part of the film. I hope there's no mention of anything involving a xeno and theres just points to infer from. For me thats the only weak spot this film could have, if it tries to explain an old monster most people see is a joke these days

Furthermore.....
A while back (March) i was give a image link to a image that someone who claimed to had been in some rooms on set and saw the Big Head room being finished off.
This person said he saw a number of things but one was the Proto Xeno.
He showed me a image and said what he saw was like the image only it had a mouth/face simular to the Prawns in District 9 and that it had 4 Tentacles but 2 could had been its tail.
Image Here
He never claimed this is the exact image, just it looked like it with District 9 looking face/mouth and it had 4 tentacles.
This was way before the image of the Mural was released (check my topic on it back end March) Highlighted Mural
Now that creature does look kind of simular with the other image, and the Mural does look like it has a mouth like those Prawns in District 9.
So maybe this person has lied, or indeed he is describing something simular to what we would see.
The orginal Alien Script Star beast described a creature that had 6 legs and Tentacles.
For the Script one of O'Bannons designs for the creature was this image.
O'Bannon Xeno
That was before the movie was in production and script/draft changed and then Gigers work used for inspiration.
Funny enough that O'Bannon image has a resemblance to the Mural creature, and would fit the bill to what that person descibed as a Xeno looking creature with face like that of District 9 Alien but with Tentacles.
Maybe Finished product could be like a Cross Between...

and
This
Also two people who i have spoken to who claim to had seen the movie, told me that the final product/stage of what evolves from Shaws Baby, will have a good passing resemblance to the 1979 Alien, it would be different but we would see simularities.
The one went on to say that the conection we made with the Cobraxeno and Shaws Baby with a Face Hugger..... is not as close as the connection we would make with the end creature and the 1979 Alien.
He also said that Shaws Baby also grows and becomes a combination of her Baby, a Xeno type creature and Face Hugger all in one Organism.
We shall have to wait and see....
But if any or all of the above is true, then yes i guess when we see it we would think..... "Christ... i get it"
The one person says he beleaves as the movie is very open, he think what we will see is either a Prequel to the Prequel (thus not Derect as Phantom Mennace is not as direct to New Hope, as Revenge of the Sith is). Or indeed a complete Reboot of the creature.

I dont think most people see it as a joke....
The Xeno is the King of Monsters it is classic, and if you had a Sculpture or Hot Toys Xeno, when most fans see it they thing..... great, your still awsome.
Its only what was done with it over and over that made us sick of it, we are not sick of the Xeno it remains classic, just we have seen stories upon it done over and over.
You could take a great song.... "And I Love Her" and it may be a great song, but the more it gets done and covered by artist after artist who each may put their own stamp on it, the more diluted the song gets.
I truely dont know where Ridley would go with this movie....
surely a reboot could be a good idea, one where we would not consider it direct cannon to Alien/Aliens.... just as AVP is not to Alien.
What i am saying is if they go the route of say how the Batman 1989 and so forth are compared to the Dark Knight Trilogy both those are in same universe, they are based around the same Character and Plot (Young Bruce Wayne losses parents, grows up to be the Capped Cruesader Batman). Just a different telling of that same Character.
If he is not going the reboot way, then the only way it can go is to span off to ..... Alien, how does he create a new creature that we then assume is the Grandmother to what ever layed those Eggs.
At some point he would be visting the Xeno.....
Unless..... Nothing maybe survives of LV223....
And that Prometheus 2 could explore a earlier time point before Prometheus, because in Alien franchise we never ever see or meet the Engineer race.... in Prometheus it seems their is just one left and if he bites the dust then how does Prometheus 2 go and explore the Space Jockey?
Unless it will follow their race before the events of that Hollogram/Ghost scene.
Or as they said in the French Magainze, that the Engineers seeded all Humaniod life in the Galaxy, we can then thus explore Engineers and other Humans in the Galaxy (assumes that the Earth was not the only place that Mankind was seeded onto by the Engineers).
I feel a most interesting scene would be the Shaws one where she is seen leaving a crashed Derelict that is positioned in simular way to the one in Alien.
A explanation to Alien could be that in this movie they find out the Engineer was trying to get to Earth with some creation that could wipe out Mankind.... but not say or show that it is Eggs that contain Xeno.
We would then see from what ws created that it is simular to the Xeno and then maybe realise, if they created by a chain of events that creature, then by simular events in past they could have created the Xeno.
Thus Shaw gets onto the ship and maybe sets off a warning becon.....
How this would go to explain LV 223 changing to LV 426 is unknown...
This is just one theory that could explain Alien and then allow the movie to follow on in timeline regarding Shaw and Weyland but with no clues as to what becomes of LV 223.
I dont think Shaw would tell anyone what happened because she knows what would happen if we went back there.

Here's my take on the "8 minutes" thing:
Innuendo. Pure and simple.
No face-huggers
No Xeno
No eggs
Only images like the "Mural" to relate the SJs with the 79 Alien Universe.
Think it visually and not "action-packed" refferences
Ask nothing from no one. Demand nothing from no one. Expect nothing from no one.

Hi I am new here! Ridley Scott has stated many times that the Space Jockey was the big mystery from Alien, but there is another one. Who recorded the warning stay away message that the Nostromo picks up? Perhaps in 8 minutes we will know?? ;-)

What about this:
Janek says "destroy everything down there" and I believe he says this to Shaw during the conversation she has with him over the com when she says "if we don't stop them there will be no home to go back to"
So Shaw is asking Janek to deal with the alien craft while Janek asks Shaw to take care of everything on the ground.
Think of it this way... they must realize that people will come try to find them. They must think of the fact that others will find this place, and if what is on this planet is really a planetary killer then they must destroy any evidence of all of it so that no one gets it and brings it to earth. This would be especially true if the Weyland company wants whatever is on this planet, so of course Shaw and company would need to make sure that NEVER happens at ANY cost, including there lives.
Now the damn ship and LV426
What if Shaw does find a way to destroy the temples and all of the ground evidence? Well what about the ship? We do not know that it is inoperable... we know it crashes...
Who's to say they don't find a way to fly the ship to another nearby planetoid, park it and create a beacon that says "stay the f*ck away"
Anything is possible
