How is this a spoiler if I may ask? Can we please try to keep these in the Prometheus Discussions rather than the Spoiler board, because until it is out in France in I believe 3 days (you bastards!) it isn't really a "spoiler" at all. Moved to Prometheus Discussions

I think by the time the credits roll you will have your answer concerning not returning. The film has so many different weird tangents it can go off in terms of how it ends. Dont forget there is strong speculation for a sequel to prometheus which Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof have supported so the answer to your question could quite possibly be revealed in the sequel if it isnt in this film.

I gotta wait 5 more days (I literally wanna cry). Im going to have to rely on Game of Thrones and having a Ridley Scottathon (Gladiator, Blade Runner and Alien) in order to keep me sane.

What the sequence of events you lay out suggest, to me, is that the Company don't go back, because they don't know what happened. Maybe it was so disastrous, not one thing is ever heard from the Mission Team again? And this is a secret mission - we don't know just how secret: a Corporation of the size and resources we're discussing can very easily have secrets that are secret, even from itself. With the right resources and motivation, it's easily possible to bury a secret for 37 years and much, much longer - or try to: but, regardless of resources and motivation, the security of secrets cannot be perfectly guaranteed...

I think it was a secret mission so to speak, only maybe Weyland and VIcker's know about the exact extent of the mission and the entire Prometheus has the map to get there. it is too important a "find" that Weyland would want to share that info with the entire company. so only when the warning beacon is found and the quality is bad from that particular area whether the signal is on either planet, they are only next door neighbors, that might have been the one missing piece to finding out what happened, and redirect the Nostromo to that area in space, and that is under the theory that both signals are actually one. i mean come on they have to be connected anyway, there is too much space for two separate messages to come out of next door planets.

My take...Prometheus mission presumed lost, Weyland Co. returns to investigate and finds no trace of what Vickers initially reported, Peter Weyland is among crew on recovery mission and is killed. Shaw is discovered alive, but does not provide any details on what was discovered. A company wide directive is put out to all deep space vessels to investigate any and all alien contact, including radio transmissions. The Nostromo detects a transmission years later and we have Alien. I believe one of those shots of a ship in space in a Prometheus trailer is the Nostromo, camera pulled back to hide it's detail, and a following closeup reveals the ship in full detail.....Nostromo's guest appearance closes the film

What if the Alien movie really takes place before Prometheus, and not the other way around. That's why Ridley says that it's not a prequel. Before the crew woke up from hyperspace the Weyland company sent instructions to the Nostromos computer (mother) to change  course. After the crew wakes up they are told by the ships captain that they have to investigate the call. At that point Ash ( the android ) does not know about the secret mission. When the ship does reach and , land on the planet. We see Dallas, Lambert and Kane leave the ship to investigate. Don't you think that if Ash knew about the company's  secret agenda he would of joined the others just to make sure some Alien DNA was found. No, instead of going he stayed behind.  What if Kane did not find any Alien DNA, or Kane infected be the Xenomorph.  then the whole mission would of been a waste. But while the group of three is away the Weyland company's orders to Ash ( which were programmed into him on earth finally come to light, as he begins to protect the Xenomorph.  Remember the conversation between Ash and Lambert. Lambert- you admire it, Ash- I admire it's purity. It almost seems to me that Ash seems surprised of how biologically perfect the Xenomorph is when it comes to survival. Then at the end we see Ripley going into deep sleep again with her cat (jonesy), and then we next see her in Aliens, getting ready to battle the Xenomorphs again. What if the Aliens movie was taking place at the same time the Prometheus trip is going on. And neither of the crews no about each other. The only thing I'm sure about is that this movie will have many surprises. Remember  it is Damon Lindelof who wrote the screenplay, and we know that he loved back and forth flashbacks in Lost. 

"I just can't imagine Weyland Corp never going back" And there you have the sequel to Prometheus. If this is a successful movie, we can expect it to leave enough questions to spawn its own franchise that is completely tangential to Alien.

I think we are gonna know WHY Weyland Co. sends the Nostromo to LV426.LV223 will more than likely lead the company to maybe start looking for MORE aliens tech. Something they can control.....or try to anyways
