Why set this story in the Alien universe?

Hear me out…were staring at the elephant in the room. RS wanted to make a standalone movie in its own right…then why didn’t he do that then? Did he crowbar Blade Runner into the Alien universe? No - in fact if he was going to expand on a universe with, it would be BR that I would engineer Prmoetheus into - not Alien. Seriously, and you can crucify me for saying it….the reason why noone answered the question of 'who the space jockeys were' was because NOONE CARED. It was a part of the mystery of Alien, a small enigma, it wasn’t the central exposition for the film or the franchise. So ask yourself is this some vanity project, or is the decision made purely on getting as much money as possible from us? Im sorry but I think the criticism of this film is fair simply because Ridley chose the path of how he wanted to tell this story. The look and feel, narrative, is completely anathema to the rest of the films….so it does feel out of place. This story would have been perfect in the Blade Runner universe if you ask me..which explored the same questions at the human level - but even better just as a standalone piece.

Confusion.... The difference between "Alien Fans" & "Fanboys/girls" is? .... I'm a hardcore Alien Fan and I've always thought the mystery of the 'Space Jockey' was more interesting than the Xenomorph..... After 'Aliens' the Xenomorph became even that less interesting, to add.... The 'Space Jockey' storyline is fresh and 'new' by comparison.... And to answer this topic's question: I don't think the 'Alien' universe was crowbared into this story.... I believe it's the other way around actually... I say this due to the fact that it seems 'Prometheus' doesn't even answer it's own driving question.... Therefore by cinema definition, that is a macguffen... Basically any excuse could've gotten our characters into outer space to play out what happens in 'Prometheus'.... Didn't even sound like Scott gave a shit about the questions... They were just the driving force to give his "thrills"

Havee you actually seen this film?? If you love the SJ backstory so much....wouldn't you be exactly the same person who would be bitterly disappointed by this film? how many of those questions did you get answered? I'll tell you....Nish! Free yourself from the chains and enjoy the movie as a standalone piece of work....trust me it's the only way to enjoy it. Ah well I guess there's always the sequel eh?...... KA-CHING!
