What potentially could have made some sense (but certainly still has plot holes) is if the last scene is the injured and now pregnant Engineer going back to the crashed ship to send a message to his home planet, then BOOM birth. Now we aim to think: is LV-233 really LV-426?
Or
The Engineer tries to leave in another ship (like Shaw & David did) and then the movie ends... those who have seen Alien know that no SJ ship ever reaches Earth so we are left to assume that the Engineer emergency lands on LV-426. No need for a scene to prove that, it's all logical, implied and creative imagination.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 4:25 PMOne ending is the space ship leaving
the other ending is the Alien coming out of the belly
1 shows us there is a possible next movie
2 shows us the reason there was an Alien movie

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 4:26 PMThe Alien being born? No one is talking about it because it's irrelevant and means nothing to the plot. Stupid cinematic Easter egg.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 4:48 PMA question I would like to know is if the space jocky dies in the escape pod how in the alien movie dose his body end up back in the pilot seat of the chashed cargo ship with a busted chest ?

How on Earth does #2 give us any information the events in Alien?

Blood
MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 7:47 PMBut that didn't happen. And the SJ in Alien had an alien come out of him while he was seated, hence the hole in the exoskeleton of the chair.

Very nice! Leaves a tie-in to Alien, and the Shaw-driven ship opens up a sequel OPTION.
That would be at least a reasonable tie-in. Have the SJ stumble into the map room, and pause- clutching his chest. Then he regains his composure, takes a deep breath, sits down, and suits up.
Leave the rest to the audience. Roll credits.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 9:53 PMSurely the SJ dying in the pilot chair would have been the better ending by far! The tie in would have been complete with even a little space for a sequel in between. I'm actually quite disappointed that Ridley didn't. Yeah I guess it's kinda nice having to speculate on just about everything seen in the movie, but I believe the writers lost a big opportunity to appease original fans of the series.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 10:13 PMI don't know if it would have been a better ending. I mean, I thought that for months, so seing that wouldn't have made me happy.

Lv-233
MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 5:04 AMI think I may have an explanation as to the link to alien/the crash site on Lv-426!
Here goes....
...right severed head David tells shaw that the crashed ship they were originally exploring isn't the only alien ship on the planet...he never states there is only one more, so I believe there are a number of these ships, all with SJ crew laying in stasis. The 'alien' (which I have dubbed the 'Hollywood alien' dude to its smooth skin and fresh set of pearly whites) born from the SJ at the end of the film, goes on to grow into a queen, laying eggs which hatch some nice friendly face huggers! These face huggers impregnate a SJ on one of the other ships, awakening it from stasis...the SJ then, blissfully unaware of its new offspring growing within, plots a course to earth to complete its mission...ship flies off from Lv-233 chest heater makes an appearance, causing the ship to lose control/cash on Lv-426 leading us nicely into the distress call heard in the original alien....
Any contenders to this theory?
Hope you all followed what I was trying to say at least.
Here's to hoping some sort of franchise is upon us to restore our beloved Alien inverse :)

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 8:03 AMYeah I had thought of that, and may be the most coherent theory.

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 4:33 AMI gotta admit I was a little disappointed when the SJ chest bursted not in the pilot seat, but then that got me thinking, the guys spaceship had just crash landed.... Maybe the break out of his (what we thought was an exo skeleton) but actually a space suit, was done by the SJ himself??? Breaking free o the suit to then go kill the remaining humans. Then maybe the suit opened a little after punching through it, and then closed again (maybe then fossilising)
I loved seeing somewhat of an Alien, even if it has lovely Nashes, wasn't too sure on the cone head, I this is to be a queen... Could have made it a little flatter and crowned out... Just a little!!! All in all No complaints... Just like the SJ end bit to be clarified.
Amazing film though!
Ridley Needs to stick to SciFi for his last film making years.

MemberOvomorphJun-10-2012 2:04 AMSomeone help me here...
Why were the "creators" trying to destroy earth? And why were they carrying the black goo with them? Were the creators trying to sacrifice the humans in order to stay alive, or in order to destroy the creation of Alien... which I guess is a higher power to the creators... something they fear. Someone feed me some knowledge.
Epic film by the way!
