OK I have just seen Prometheus at Londons BFI IMAX - After over two years of hard core PR and hype and buzz and anticipation and excitement - Here is my review. The opening scene as an "engineer" sacrifices himself into the ......water. Excellent scene actually - The Engineer looks "alien" and its a bizzare but cool scene. The archeological dig, the Prometheus heading towards LV -223 - We all know the build of the story, and it follows it to a tee. The 17 crew members - We get to meet about 8. Actually Holloway who I thought was a pain in the ass in all the featurettes and trailers is actually pretty cool, and when David "infects" him I have empathy. The character development with him was good! Its good with David, Shaw, Janek and Vickers - Although Vickers and Elba needed more story arc. So they enter the temple, all still going along very nicely and then they see a holographic recording of the engineers in the "suits" running away, escaping. Then they find the big head, the ampules, the storm comes, They steal the head and David steals an ampule, Fifield and Milburn (the two stooges - very amateur script writing for these guys) get lost and have to stay in the temple...........and this is where the story gets lost as well - Completely lost and turns into "make it up as we go along" Just like the labyrinth in the temple - For the next Forty minutes it all gets tangled and lost. Continuity errors galore - 17 crew members - We dont even get to meet them!!! What the fuck happens to them. As the story gets lost on itself it turns into an amateur farce....Really bad screenplay. Ridley HAS lost his mind. Lindeloff DID Jedi mind trick him. Why the derelict when it crashes wasnt the one they find in ALien is a travesty..... Thats how the story should have gone....Shaw even sends out a warning signal. The screenwriters should have at least given the fanboys this as opposed to a large Xeno bursting from the chest of the Impregnated Engineer at the end....who is in the Prometheus escape capsule.....Everything is rushed, inconsistent, actually gets a little boring and funny....It wreaks, positiveley wreaks of Lucas Syndrome.. In fact Ridley has gone and contracted George Lucas Syndrome - Lets all create it RIGHT NOW ......G L S!!! This movie has a classic case of G L S. Yes there are highlights...but whilst the movie was meandering around doing nothing it could have been exploring the engineers, where they come from, who are they? what is this facility....In fact in a quickly shot, cheap scene - Captain Janek tries to sum the story up to put it back on course for the audience (G L S) "This is NOT where the engineers are from (Janeks theory) This is a facility - possibly military, things went wrong, wiped them all out, there home is somewhere else"...Thanks for that Captain - Thanks for just saying something that should have been beautifully discovered throughout the film..... Let me give y'all a movie comparison.... Is Prometheus better than George Lucas Phantom Menace? YES Is it better than Revenge of the Sith NO WAY Is it better than Alien HA! Aliens HA! Alien 3 YES!!! Alien Resurrection YES!! AVP FILMS YES!! Although it is basicaly AVP without the predators, better actors and bigger budget. So much missed opportunities...Everybody on this forum who contributed ideas gave soooo much more than Sphaits and Lindeloff - WE ALL NEED TO BE HIRED FOR THE SEQUEL - SERIOUSLY!!! I wish I wasn't writing this review - I so wanted it to be a 5 star game changer....It isnt. Its full of holes like the ancient Jockeys Chest on the derelict, oh sorry I mean his suit. Star rating 3 out of 5 Will I watch it again Yep I will buy the blu ray. Am I disappointed? Yep If anybody wants any personal questions answered - feel free to PM me! Peace to you all - I have enjoyed this forum WAY more than the film! The High Priest

So, what happens now... I guess the dark knight rises will be great. Hey, maybe the Nolan brothers should make a sci-fi.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for anyone who hangs out on this forum, who then went into this movie thinking that the juggernaut was the same ship we saw in "Alien." Seriously, you 'd have to be daft to still believe that, after the huge body of evidence we had to the contrary. Scott repeatedly said it wasn't a direct prequel. The moon on which the Prometheus lands, bears no resemblance to LV4266, whatsoever. Further, we were told that it wasn't the same moon. The juggernaut map-room is quite different from the derelict equivalent.....nothing subtle about it. Seriously, if you've spent any time on this forum, you'd have to be a dufus to believe this movie was going to end with the juggernaut landing on LV426.

Hey there! You confirmed just what I thought had happened all along. That Lindeloff snowed Sir Ridley. I still want to see the movie but realize it would have been so much better without Lindeloff's fragmented writing style. Bummer.....

Seen it too. Lindeloff is on my blacklist. In short: great visuals, very good use of 3D, (some) nice acting, lousy script, lousy dialog. Predictable as hell. And my biggest grip: we've seen it ALL in the trailers and TV spots. No surprises left.

An even-handed review @ Brett - Ridley's face is hilarious! I heard this sound when I saw the picture.

Thanks High Priest. Not the review I "wanted" to hear just like it wasn't the one you wanted to write... but it was the one I "needed" to hear. Damn it all. And yes, thanks to BH, the staff, and members like you. This was my first forum experience and I've been active for about the last 6 months... and it's been a blast!

100% agree with this post. Funny thing is I haven't seen the movie yet (6 more days... ugh!). I have read every plot detail. I know the screenplay by heart now. It's like I read the book and now will watch it come alive on screen. Unfortunately I was disappointed with "the book" lol. I KNOW I will love the directing, cinematography, gore, scares, characters, music score etc. but ultimately a movie, for me, amounts to the strength and depth of it's story and this one just falls short... I don't need to have seen it to know that. I'm sure the experience of this movie will be amazing, everything I wanted it to be, ESPECIALLY now that I know the story is basically empty, unresolved and rushed... but now knowing that, I can just enjoy it for what it is. I think it's better this way, weeks ago I would have said otherwise.

Thank you The High Priest for your brutally honest review, it is greatly appreciated. Nothing wrong with being disappointed and expressing exactly that. It's not like we're getting into the theater for free ya know. =) But isn't it amazing that you can walk into any decent bookstore's sci-fi section- or visit forums like this one- and be witness to all manner of great storytelling ideas, and yet Hollywood always ends up tapping the same limited talent pool. Not being able to end something well is not the mark of the master, it just means you can't end things well and no need to complicate it any further than that. 6 days before I see it, but man it's not looking good. And I mean, what's left? Spiderman reboot? Total Recall reboot? Jesus Christ Hollowood, get off Reboot's d**k already, it's turning black and blue.

man, that sucks you are disappointed but I like your review. That is one of the better reviews I've read by someone who didn't totally like the movie. Who do you think is more to blame, Lindelof or Ridely Scott more for the errors? Now this PUBLIC RELATIONS MESSAGE G L S, many directors in hollywood suffer from this serious disease daily. For the price of a cup of coffee a day, you too can help. Please, get hollywood directors the help they deserve.

Huh saying the same things that you said BEFORE actually watching the movie is not an act of great intelligence ( that you surely have ) but more probably an act of bad faith .....you would have surely said the same if the movie was the masterpiece of the century .

It was Lindeloffs infection....but the book stops with Scott. He should have seen the glaring inconsistencies and errors in the screenplay. He really has been jedi mind tricked with this. What a farce! G L S Strikes Ridley hard and fast!!!

HighPriest I really wish there was a book available. I'd like to read it. Somehow, (I think,) from what I've heard, a good author could really flesh out and maybe fix some things that aren't so great.

Oh Frantz dear Frantz.......... Its just my opinion. If you read my review (not sure if you READ it, or just read right through it) you would have noticed that more than anything I wanted it to be an epic piece of game changing 5 star cinema, that got my blood pumping, my imagination swirling, got me riveted to the screen. I WANTED IT BE AWESOME (spartacus time). It let me down, it was bad storytelling....period. If you think its a masterpiece thats YOUR opinion. No need to start getting weird about it all dude..... Bad Faith???? - Your just talking utter shit pal.

Very true artyoh - It certainly isnt the derelict from Alien....shame though I think it should have been written that it IS the one from Alien - That would have worked better from a storytelling point of view (IMO) and been better than the arbitery XENO Teenager from the Engineer????

About that picture, it looks like my cousins when we go to visit our 80 year-old grandfather. He recently had incontinence issues. Girl with the mic: "Aww, Ridley, are we having issues?" Ridley: "Oh, buggah..." Noomi: "Aww, grandpa! You're so cute."

Yeah! the Captain Janek provides more answers than the whole bunch of scientists and is actually quite funny LOL. In my opinion Shaw survives thanks to Janek and David (definitely Janek is the real hero IMO)
