It now seems the verdict is in and that RS has failed to deliver the movie he's promised. There are quite a few reviews floating about and from my observation the bad reviews outweigh the good. I still plan on watching the movie just so I can judge it for myself but the common thread among all the complaints seem to be 1) that it was a wasted opportunity and that Lindelof's script sucked 2) the acting was horrible, aside from Michael Fassbender 3) the score sucked and 4) the movie left more questions than answers. Someone had made a comparison to The Thing prequel, which made me nervous, because I too thought it was horrible. I will not judge this movie until i've seen it first but I can't help but feel nervous about it. Does anyone else feel the same?

The movie is not even close to a genius Alien. Alien was with a very simple story and believable characters. Prometheus is a complex mish mash with plane characters. The thing prequel was a decent movie. Didn't like it but it was decent compared to Prometheus.

If your looking for a Alien Prequel...... Where we see a scene that stages before that of Alien.... Then thats not going to happen.... there could be hints that something like this could happen after.... If your after a Orginal Movie then this attempts it, but its trying so hard to do so much in short period of time.... You will like the movie, you will maybe like me just ask.... if only they had a extra 40 mins to play with and i dont mean 40 mins at the end but just to help some parts flow more. I think the plot, the detail to the sets and stuff is very very good. My gripe and others may not have the same or no gripes, is that i wish the movie was a little longer and so could give more depth to certain aspects... But a sequel would eliminate many of the goings on in this movie and Alien and be able to devote more to maybe the Engineers, who are they, why are they etc etc...... Trust me you wont hate the movie, you will like it, maybe you wont love it maybe you will but you wont hate it... People who say its a bit AVP.... well the story is more depth than that, its more detailed than AVPs only maybe too detailed for a 2 hour movie. But at the same time leaves a lot of explanation regarding the so called negative comments that it links with AVP as far as Gods who vistited us and created us goes... But lets just say that Prometheus 2 could be set up to then give us answers regarding that.... or go the other way and answer Alien and i think and hope we see the prior because the Xeno has been done to death.

Just ignore all the negative reviews because a) critics are not fans, they don't know what they're talking about and most of them don't like when a movie delivers more questions than answers. they like generic movies, because they're simple & you don't need to think that much of them. b) lots of reviews I've read where only about how Prometheus ties in with Alien and then lots of comparisons between both movies - what was made, what was similar and not. It felt like those people didn't even know that Prometheus wasn't supposed to be a direct prequel or answer all questions. Still, I haven't seen the movie (but I spoiled it for myself), but it just makes me angry that some idiots were still hoping for a direct prequel, answers, xenos and so on even when it was said billion times that none of this was going to happen. And now they're just trashing the movie.

Go see it. The movie raises more questions for the next movies - there is just too much info here in this movie to get solved in two hours... BTW - RS did a great job on this, even after the franchise was flown into the mountainside by AVP - IMHO.

We went to see Prometheus 3D yesterday and I really thought that Ridley hit the nail on the head in every way. The plot (in my opinion) is perfect. The scripting is excellent too. Personally I feel that any one going to see the movie should try to shade their knowledge of the 4 movies we all love and know so well. I spent a lot of time last night mulling over in my mind the interactions, the characters, trying to "Live the plot" and see where it comes from. My advice is, when anyone goes to see Prometheus, they should go with "Evolutionalry Process" in mind. Sorry if I am being so "A" specific in my thoughts. This movie is a true representation of 2nd/3rd generation evolutionalry process in nature. If I am right,Ridley Scott is already working on the next movie tho bring what has been "Spawned" in this movies conclusion. It is a "Clever" movie. Oh and by the way. Well done to Ridley for utilising "3D" technology so creatively.

The end of the day mate, Beauty is always in the Eye of the Beholder... We are all different, and some will love it some not so... I dont think your wasting your movie, this is a bold attempt and something more unique that i felt need more time to fit their scope and plot within the contraints of the movie. This is not a cash cow all action pop corn movie, there are some clever things in this movie, i just wish they had more time on it but then thats what sequels are for... Do not expect a Alien because their are some ties, but i mean as far as the Epic or Blade Runner, these movies are fantastic and no matter what Sci Fi comes out be that what Ridley does, Cameron does or even the tallented Peter Jackson.... you will find it hard to match those masterpeices. Yes there are elements if feel are rushed, but thats just me. You do not take the negative reviews and you dont take the pro ones. You just have to go watch the movie, and worst case scenerio is not as bad as some say, you have more chance to love it than hate it. For me.... this movie was not bad, i enjoyed it.... i never left thinking that was rubish, that was stupid.... I left thinking, oh boy i only wish Ridley had 3 hours to play about with and expanded on some elements.... So u was disapointed that we could not have seen more detail in the plot but thats because i felt the scope of the plot was bigger than a 2 hour movie thats all. But then maybe those elements was just the style that Lindelof uses.

"empty bag of tricks whose production values and expensive trickery cannot disguise imaginative poverty" the above quote was from timeout about a certain film that Mr Scott made 33years ago!! (alien) I really liked Prometheus I had read the wiki plot outline before seeing it and to be honest it didn't ruin it for me, its not perfect but its definitely a 4 out of 5 film 2 days latter and its still in my thoughts not many films do that me these days at my age (39) the feeling I had at the end of the film was the similar as to the end of the "Fellowship of the Ring" I didn't want it to end and I wanted my questions answered (although I could read the book in the case of LOTR) finally you cant have an opinion on it till you've seen it .

I'd say go and see it. Opiniom is divided. It always is. Only you can determine if you think the film is any good or not. Personally I thought it was massively dissapointing & only score it 2/5 ..... but what the hell do I know?! You might love it! But like with (for example) Matrix 2 & 3 I will watch Matrix 1 & pretend those never happened. Like the new Star Wars trilogy - never happened. I'll watch Alien & pretend that Prometheus never happened & that the thing in the chair could never be a giant blue smurf in space suit.

Colonel You have to go and see it for yourself - you may even like it! For me, at the end of the day - it just didnt work. Its more of a Pitch Black than an Alien

I saw the film last night and I do have some reservations but overall I really enjoyed. I am a big Alien fan and since 79 have been wondering about the space jockey etc. I knew the film wasn't a direct prequel but it was more of a back story. The story itself is interesting and I like films where the answers are ambiguous, I like to postulate theories. I know not everyone is the same and they want a clear cut answer to everything they have been wondering for the past 30 years. Its certainly isn't the same type of film that Alien is, its not a survival film as such. It is there to pose the basic question where are we from and plays around with that. It is beautifully shot and looks amazing. Good overall soundtrack but it was a bit overplayed and some scenes the tone wasn't quite right I felt. The actors were brilliant, I loved Fassbender. Should You see it, as the people above have posted yes and only you can decide if you like it. I feel the film is about your own interpretation as anything else. I personally fully recommend seeing it asap :)

@Ender Yes, it's like a cult movie. The positive thing about Prometheus IMO is that it makes Alien continue to reign as the best sci-fi horror. And to be really honest, the shitty AVP movies just got a little better (at least they had a story you could understand)

you have to go see it. a visual treat no doubt. but even as a stand alone film, it doesn't work. i was fine with it not being a direct prequel to alien. but there were 12 of us there at the IMAX yesterday, and only 1 really liked it. When the film ends, the reaction of the crowd tells you everything. and the stone cold silence broken by little murmurs was a disappointing feeling. you could feel it. Everyone wanted to really like/love this film. but i'd have to see it again, not in 3d. Cos the 3D aspect was amazing, but still couldn't help the script.
