Note: This review has been marked "spoiler-free". Any spoilers posted will be removed (the entire post). -----------------------------------------------------------------I'm in the US and haven't seen it. As of right now, out of 2500 votes on IMDB, it is rated 8.5/10. It has an 82% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatos. I hear people around here calling this the worst movie they've ever seen, saying Alien Ressurection and AVP were much better, and all this other stuff. I'm not trolling, I'm just wondering if expectations of over 6 months posting on this site theories about how deep and layered this movie was going to be just left everyone disappointed. I have to admit, some really solid and interesting theories were presented on this board, but did we really think we were going to get an Oscar winning deep layered masterpiece out of a big budget movie Fox releases in June? I'm just hoping everyone thinks before writing reviews or trashing the movie. Was it a horrible experience because it was a horrible movie, or was it a horrible experience because it was not what you wanted? Alien Ressurection was a horrible movie. Don't lump Prometheus in with it just because you're upset that 2 years of anticipation wasn't the single most amazing experience of your life.

@hicksandhudson As much as I hated the movie, as a fan it's a movie you probably have to see. I just hate spending money on crap films and making directors rich.

Just the fact that several people on this site including me are disappointed, is a clear sign that the movie isn't an instant classic. I do like certain aspects of the film, but the story sucked very badly because it tried to explain so much and just kept adding new things all the way to the cliffhanger ending, leaving us with a s...t load of questions.

StringerBell
Stunning Visuals. 3-D Amazing. soundtrack had good moments. Plot Holes aplenty. Feels rushed from an edit standpoint. Clunky dialog, and bizarre choices by principle characters in a given situation, served only to forward the story, but without reference to it ever again. which for the most part lacked tension.
Agree 100% with the above. Too much crammed into 120 minutes hence plot holes and lack of character development leading to loads of unanswered questions. But still going for a second viewing. We're a bunch of picky B'stards :):):)

@Slipp_Digby I'm interested in what long-time "Alien" fan, forum members have to say, particularly if their critiques include specific points......on the other hand, folks who've only bothered to join over the last couple of days.....apparently just to trash the movie?......No. Just my personal opinion. ; -)

Not counting that many of those who joined the 1 or 2 of june can be duplicated accounts , why in the hell one that was NEVER interested in the development of prometheus and HATED the movie want to search a Prometheus forum to start to whine like a desperate ?? Come on ....

Hicks Pretty much spot on pal my main gripe about the movie tho is it doesn't live up to it's potential this movie could have been so much more and if you've not seen it I won't go into detail till you have out of the franchises other movies it feel most like avp and alien 3 to me it has the confused pacing of a3 and the basic plot of avp throw in some stupid unanswered questions from the tv show lost and you have Prometheus I swear you can actually tell where the writers have re written things in order to turn this away from alien and into a completely new franchise when it claims to be a stand alone movie I hope when you see it you enjoy it more than I did and look forward to your views when you have

I joined this forum to see if people like myself were disappointed with the movie As it happens many are and I assume many more will be when the movie hits the states And since when have you had to be interested in the development of a movie to enjoy it I saw alien and aliens at around 7 years old without any idea what the films where about and mainly just cos my parents said I couldn't and theyve been 2 of mybfavourite movies for over 2 decades so why now do I have to follow every thread every interview and scrap of information now in order to have an opinion And I'm sure Spartacus as you like to censor threads and posts I'll soon be deleted so i hope on seeing the movie you enjoy it I really do and if the account is still active maybe we can discuss where Prometheus2 is heading

Guys like Frantz and Spartacus have been around since late last year. On here almost everyday showing how much they care about this film and how much they've been hoping for it live up to their expectations, and sharing their opinions. I really don't think it's riding a high horse to say that I would listen to Frantz's review over say somebody that just joined after seeing the film to express their disappointment with it. Lurking for a few months and then joining to add your review isn't the same as whatever review these guys are going to give the movie as they've made their opinions and views known way before Prometheus was ever released.

that was so nice of you to say I just want to put this idea out there...I have learned one thing now from everything everyone has said and maybe it makes me have an advantage for when I see it now...because that thing is I am not going into this film expecting anything anymore...I am just going to absorb it and go to work and in the morning after my nite shift from 3 - 11 am I will decide what I thought and let everyone know in detail. The Only real thing I wanted to know before was whether or not that Signal had been "screaming in space" for 33+ years now...?...but I guess we don't find that out! It's cool, this is Ridley Scott's Puppy! Not mine!

and ivent either said is a perfect movie ..far from that ...but now being invaded by 2-3 people + clones that want to transform this forum in a place of screaming kids is a way too much !! 87% of people liked it Rottentomatoes come on !!

won't disagree there are people wanting to stir trouble just for the sake of it. but speaking for myself, i am a film lover, i'm an Editor, i wanted this film to be great. nothing would've pleased me more to say how jealous i am of you states side awaiting to be blown away. that feeling as the film starts. but alas i feel what i feel... but it will be interesting to debate others who say otherwise, without descending into foolishness. One thing for sure, there will be a mixed reaction stateside no doubt about it. but i do find it a touch arrogant that its said 'certain' members are more valid in their comments than others. Especially said by those who haven't seen the film yet. and are new members who are positive about the film, held in the same regard as the negative reviewers such as myself?

I look forward to your review then Spartacus I appreciate your staff and have done a lot of work with everyone else to put this site together but in my opinion RS has let us all down with a movie which had so much potential Like I said in previous posts watch the movie draw your own conclusions and we'll chat about it and the inevitable sequel some other time

Sorry StringerBell, I didn't mean it to sound that way, I even avoided the use of the word valid as I don't think thats the case. I just don't think it's arrogant to say that I trust what one person says over another. All the negative reviews around here do seem to be an issue though as there's been a thread created to keep them under control and not ruin everybody's atmosphere around here.

I thought it was GREAT - try not to read bad reviews or watch too many trailers, or read too many spoilers - wait until the movie is out and go and see it and enjoy it - it is it's own movie in itself but it still has references to the original movie in it too - it's great.

I would suggest that those who have 'invested' so much in this being great over the past 12 month will actually find it very hard to be objective about what Prometheus actually is. I really don't care if you agree with my review or opinions. I certainly wouldn't be arrogant enough to try to change yours. I'm sure many people will enjoy Prometheus, but I just think faults are so glaring that it's actually just an ok film and it could have been so much more. As for accusations of sock puppets and duplicate accounts, come on man up. There opinions nothing more. If you disagree, engage and debate. That's why we come here, not just to trash something to get a reaction.

I went into this as someone who considers Alien to be one the greatest movies ever made and, even though they said it wasn't a fully-fledged Alien prequel, I expected it to be as such. And my expectations were confounded and I came out of the cinema more than satisfied. I keep seeing people saying things like "it made no sense" or picking out lots of points as being superfluous or dead-ends. I can only think that they either weren't paying attention or have some ridiculously high expecations.

yeah i think most movies with ambition have plot holes. im wondering if this will grow on people in time. i hate to say it, but ive done some research on "Alien" reviews from 1979 and the story itself was not really considered an instant classic. the movie was terrifying and the chestburster scene itself was an instant classic, but i didnt read any reviews that praised it for having a genre defining philosphical storyline. its very difficult to do something like that and have it make sense completely. Im glad i think this thread helped clarify some things i was worried about. i also, not to insult anyone, am more an Aliens fan over Alien and im wondering if the action in the movie will appeal to me more than some of the diehard Alien fans.
