MemberOvomorphJune 02, 2012990 Views21 RepliesI said it after LOST and I guess I will be saying it again after seeing Prometheous from reading the reviews, Damon Lindleof $^@&$ @$$. How the hell does he get work and what the hell do the studios and directors see in this wannabe! It was obvious after LOST that he could not finish a single plot line and opted for a criminals way out. Run this guy out of Hollywood without haste, Geez!

Have you even seen the film yet? If not you shouldn't make such rash assumptions.
I'm of the team which applaud Lindelof's work on Prometheus. I love how he leaves us with more questions than answers - that's what good storytelling is.
I'm all for freedom of speech, but the negative reviews are getting tiresome. They've brought back a classic and left it with an opening to expand even further!
I don't see why some of our "fans" are so hostile to the idea of having to think, speculate and think some more. That's what's made this journey so much fun and will continue to make this journey fun as we wait for the sequel.
Have an open mind.

I agree but Prometheus will make a lot of money...so he will win again...I'll give him points for being a master conman, he knows how to play the game and people
but he won't last much longer after Star Trek is ruined I think, Trekkie fans are hardcore

Nope, have not seen it yet as I said in my beginning of this discussion but I have seen LOST and the horrid reviews of the script from Prometheus and this is bringing me to the conclusion that I may be intellectually and monetarily robbed from a potentially great scifi movie adventure by Swindleof. I hope this is not the case and am keeping an open mind but it is very hard to knowing that most of these reviews and criticisms I am reading remind me exactly of what Swindleof did to the hearts and minds of us hard core LOST Fans. It is criminal. I will of course go see it and make my own conclusions as to its nature. One thing I have learned with age is that if 5,000 out of 6,000 movie goers say that a movies script suck ass, it usually does.

Well then you've already made up your mind without even seeing the film for yourself. The negative reviews only stem from people's inability to comprehend the ambiguity that this film poses.
If you expect the film to be a "be all - end all" then you will be disappointed. But it's not that and never did they promote it as such. It's a new chapter. You can't know the whole book by reading the first couple pages, can you?
It's simple as that. Naysayers can complain all they want - but it's only because they don't appreciate Prometheus for what it is and not their idea of what it should have been.

I don't like what Damon constructed with Lost's plot in regards to the directions it took and especially the ending, if he was involved and I suspect he was BUT...I recognize he was working in the confines of television which is vastly different from feature film work. I am one of those Lost fans who feel truly screwed over..that is a massive understatement on my part. But I also know that Ridley was in complete charge of Prometheus and any and all perceived flaws or strengths must be attributed to him alone...I don't think anybody tells Ridley what to do...except maybe his lady, I mean who wouldn't.
When I see it next week I am seeing Ridley.

@Chimera I completely agree with you about Lost but am also starting to be open to the fact that maybe it won't be anywhere near as confusing as that. This is, after all, a film about scientists exploring and alien structure on another world. So from the outset we already know way more about what is going on that we did in Lost. Maybe as viewers of Lost we will be the one demographic that actually feels like Prometheus provided plenty of answers. I assure you that nothing in Prometheus will be as unexplained as the smoke monster was in Lost. To be honest, as the release date in the states draws closer I am starting to get somewhat optimistic for the film.

@BugHunter: No, I have not already made up my mind but I am preparing my self for the possibility of a huge letdown. Do not want to give Lindleof the satisfaction of setting me up again so I am not getting hyped and am preparing for the worst.

That is steeling yourself for 'something', up or down and I understand how its got hold of you....perfectly understandable. I really hope you enjoy the film

"I haven't seen the film but have read some reviews and have a grudge against Damon Lindelof for some reason, therefore the film will be bad"

Because unless you slap people with explanations, or whack them over the head with THIS IS WHY DAVID IS DOING THIS, then it's "weak storytelling". It's not CLEAR. It's not expositioned to death so that EVERYONE can understand.
I haven't seen the movie, but I gave reasons why slipping something into a someone's drink is easier than pricking them in the arm. It's just common damn sense, but unfortunately, the newer generations severely lack it. Common sense isn't common anymore, and this is why when a movie leaves questions, the more a challenged few mutter and complain and jump thread to thread repeating themselves and demanding Lindelof's head on a plate.
He's really not that awful. I liked LOST. I liked the twists and turns and making you think, theorize and ponder. What is wrong with that?

ya know none of us even come from the right place to talk because none of us have written anything more successful than he has. & I have never seen 1 episode of lost and have no opinion either way on the man.
June 02, 2012
Man, this is the longest week ever, waiting for Prometheus. I hope that Swindleoff has had minimal impact on the story, so it isn't another Cowboys and Aliens. So far, I'm actually pretty optimistic about this.

Granted we will all be better off if Douche Lindedork was suicidle or in rehab, but the fact that Ridley allowed the studios to bully him by forcing kiss ass swindloff ruin it he takes the blame just as much.

I saw the film yesterday and was initially quite annoyed, as it did not live up to this "epic" tag that Ridley Scott gave it, and I issued a few posts slating it. I probably went overboard with my criticism at the time, but in my opinion the film, as far as what we expected it to be, disappoints. Were my expectations too high? Maybe. But it got hyped up big time. Now I have had time to think it through, I can say that in a nutshell the film has a below average script and everything feels rushed, and a few times, characters do things with no rhyme or reason or logic. Folks will probably get what I mean by this when they see the film. As a stand alone sci-fi film it is good. But for fans of Alien, there will be discontent, IMHO.
June 03, 2012
Well, to me LOST was real crap - speculations, and 99% "cheap" blahblahblah. Nothing happens, everybody just talks some mystery blah. Boring to death, you NEVER geht your satisfaction in this kind of "storytelling", like a junky on the needle you only get "promises" but the satisfaction factor never takes place in.
I saw Prometheus some days ago, and it was fine.
But as this seems to be Lindelofs "signature", you really leave the cinema with more questions then answers, and it made fun and it was exciting - but you are simply not satisfied, he increases your addiction by making your mind "hungry for more" without giving you anytime any more.

I have always been leary of the fact that the writer from Lost, Damon Lindleof , was brought in by Ridley Scott to do the script. I think if I am correct, he is the one that altered Scott's choice of a prequel and turned it into an independent idea which turned me off from the start. Don't get me wrong. I am drooling to see this pic and have been counting down the days ... for Scott's sake ... but I HATED the series Lost and was very dismayed that Scott would bring in Damon Lindleof who probably has turned this sci-fi epic into a cheap syfy piece of Lost. Hopefully Scott will add the two sequels to this so called prequel and bring in better writers.
