Chimera
MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 5:34 PMOkay, here is a shot in the dark about the Engineers being dead 2000 years and a possible clue of why they may have decided to destroy us at the time before their demise.
The most talked about thing in Earth's history that began to spread in our society 2000 years ago would, imo, have to be monotheism. So knowing that, The approximate date that the Engineers were going to take WMD's to Earth for the purpose of making humankind extinct and the name given to the move of "Prometheus", I am guessing the likely reason as that we were no longer worshiping their civilization as God's. Just a possibility I had swimming in my head.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 6:02 PM@ Chimera that is a good point and might a play on the "Old Testament" God of the bible who is jealous and wrathful. A part of me thinks that this film might be anti-religious in that the message might be that the idea that God is loving and kind is not necessarily true.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 7:19 PMinteresting. Jews had been around longer... but I guess Monotheism really started kicking off widescale after arrival of Jesus?
Maybe I'm wrong, but would like to know how fast christianity spread across the world and whether it had significant number 2000 years ago. If it didn't it wouldn't make sense story wise. Because jews were monotheists long before

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 1:16 AMI was at a screening of Prometheus Thursday for film critics and a group who saw it had a discussion afterwards about where the movie goes from here. According to one insider, who says he knew a person involved in the film's making, there was originally a plot point for Prometheus that dealt with one of the Engineers being a scout who was sent to Earth 2,000 years ago...Jesus Christ. (If you'll remember, for those who saw the film, they carbon date one of the Engineers and it was 2,000 years ago when it died.) Essentially, human beings turned on the Engineer and killed him, and so the other Engineers decided that Earth needed to be destroyed, sort of how a scientist would put down an animal if it attacked a co-worker. Their motivation is somewhat vengeful, a punishment from our Creator if you will.
So this could be part of what we see in the sequel, with Shaw having to find a way to convince the Engineers we are worthy of existing. If so, what do you think of the idea? I had a friend say it was total sacrilege, but to me it's a bold idea worth exploring.
What would you like to see happen in the sequel?
