Are We the Ultimate Weapon?

MemberOvomorphJune 02, 20121172 Views20 RepliesBy now it has been established that the Engineers in Prometheus create biological weapons to fight their battles. We know that the mechanism by which they do this is the black liquid. This is evidenced in the scene where some worms are exposed to it and become truly dangerous creatures. Could it be then, that when the Engineer in the beginning of the film drinks the black gunk he disintegrates and spawns the DNA for a more dangerous biological weapon based on the Engineer's very own DNA? This could explain why the Engineers visited Earth many times throughout our history (they were checking up on their newest and potentially most dangerous weapon). Maybe at some point the Engineers decided we were so dangerous and warlike that we might even come to overtake them and decided to wipe us out. What do you guys think?

Would make for an interesting sequel, all the engineers running and hiding from a small human woman.lol

yeah, i really like this theory.......i think your onto something......as Ridley always puts big ideas into films and what your saying makes complete sense......we are all in the cinema waiting to see the Xeno's as the bad ass alien creature that the engineers create but actually, we, the humans Kill the Xeno in every single Alien movie so actually they are not the ultimate weapon really.....We are......really good point. Like it.

@trisg_2000 Yeah, and if you think about it, out of all the Engineer's creations we are the only ones who build Starships capable of nuking planets from orbit and we terraform entire worlds to suit our liking kind of like the xeno's. Maybe we are really the Xeno 2.0. A more advanced and lethal species that is capable of destroying entire worlds and extend our own civilization through breeding and the creation of synthetic life as well.

@ cybershandy yeah that would make us the "Alien" and super-lethal biological organism that the Engineers made that they felt was a threat to the entire universe.
June 02, 2012
again, this would make complete sense as to why the engineers would be trying to eliminate us......question is why are they making bio weapons?? for the fun of it?? or to fight there enemies with?? if so then who are there enemies?? and again, these are more questions we may see in the sequel/s? My only criticism of the film is that unlike alien, i think Ridley really over paced he movie and framed to many ideas into rather than concentrating on one idea very closely, but perhaps if he didn't do that and laid it all on the table then it wouldn't create a forum community like this were people sit down and create debates about the films ideals.

I thought this was the only explanation for the film's plot? Sorry if I sound glib! It's great idea but I didn't think it was a theory I thought it was pretty straightforwardly the plot.

@Hooperman that is good to know actually! A lot of the reviews make it seem like the film gives you no answers at all and leaves you feeling completely lost (pun-intended) about what is really happening with the plot. If there is a straightforward story about the Engineers in the plot then that raises my expectations for seeing the film significantly!
June 02, 2012
I didn't think that this was made clear at all in the film and i consider myself quite good at getting plots. Great movie, but again, i think Ridley threw so many ideas around rather than concentrating on one single idea.

@ Irena maybe they are like mankind in that they fight each other for resources and territory? It could also be that they discovered something far more terrible and powerful than anything we have seen so far somewhere in the depths of space? I would probably prefer it if there was something far worse than anything we have seen that scared the Engineers into creating mankind in the hopes that we could destroy it.

Its a nice explanation for the twists and turns of the film but I didn't believe this was necessarily a 'straight forward' plot as Hooper put it, the film was so rushed and went off in so many directions that this main plot drowns in amongst a number of other sub-plots all which eventually lead you nowhere. And you do, you end up lost. In the end your left with a film that you could put a lot of thought into, but whats the point, as like with your expectations of how good this film was going to be, your probably wrong anyway.

No i dont think the humans are the "Super-Alien".
Following logic, what happend in Prometheus-Reality?
- Engineer sacrfice > gives his DNA to start a process that leads to us
- Enginners come back from time to time and give mankind the "information" where they can be find (cave paintings - starmap) , calculation that we will be able someday to visit them
- After we are able to visit them, what do we find? The temple urns are activated by some kind of "sensors" when human beeings are around
- The black soup destroys the visitors and lets something "new" by plain random come to life, thats the way this black soup works technically
- the engineer at the end wants to fly to earth to let mankind swim in black soup to be destroyed and something "new, dangerous by random" will start to exist
But whats the SENSE of this all? Whats the logic?
I can not find an answer, i think they did it so open and unanswered to force us to follow sequel Prometheus 2 and 3.

Sorry, maybe straightforward was the wrong word! But I think it's implicit in the engineer's motives. @Irena weapons to fight who? Well exactly. Who were the xenomorphs designed to fight? I'm going with another theory posted on this site that states there must be two factions of Space Jockeys. The one in the beginning wearing white created us and the others seemed to worship a crucified xenomorph like image in the catacomb so perhaps they developed weapons to fight and kill us, just as we were designed to fight and infect and spread too. And David represents us replicating ourselves into other bio-organic life forms.

Or we are just consumables for making Aliens?
spacyfreak- maybe there is no logic? We humans are so funny, always trying to give everything some sence. Yeah its what make us humans- try to answer to all questions of universe. But if there wouldnt be any questions- wouldnt be also what to discover:)
June 02, 2012
Hooperman- i also thought so first. But then- if we see them like creatures, who made us, so in classic representation they are Gods. But if Alien could kill Engineer, so they are out of our concept who is Gods. And when ship's crew arrives to LV-223 they expecting to find ''friendly guys'' who would answer to all our questions. Why? Why would they? Looks like they are the same as us: Good and evil, who create and destroy... Will be there two factions of Space Jockeys? Or just creatures so similar to us in making mistakes?

ok, with the example from Greek mythology
Engineers = Gods, Zeus etc
Weyland Corp (representing Humans) = Prometheus - stealing biotech for evil
Punishment for us = Killing off Human Race - which is overkill
So, I can go with we are the ultimate problem - but our kryptonite is this new Alien which just hates and wishes to destroy the Human form.
It might also explain why they "invited" us to a millitary outpost rather than the home planet. In the words of Admiral Akbar "It's a TRAP!" - They set us up, but we probably took longer than expected to arrive or some other misfortune happened and they werent prepared when we arrived.

I truly believe that our questions will be answered in the sequal. But what you brought up @Drakeequation made me think about the story as a whole. Most of us are confused on why the engineers want to exterminate us. I have to go back to Greek mythology for the answer that I think will support my opinion. Well, we all know by now that Prometheus was punished by Zeus for giving man fire. That analogy fits with what we now know as the engineers giving us life. Now there must be other sentinent beings who are even a higher life form then the engineers themselves, who might of punished the engineers themselves for giving birth to mankind.

*** SPOILER ***
When P. Weyland, David8 and Shaw came to the engineer to ask him for eternal life for Mr. Weyland, what was the reaction of the engineer?
He was NOT interested in CONVERSATION at all.
Like a fly makes its rounds around your head and you do a clapping with your ands and kill it without any thought or emotion, that was his reaction.
Mankind is just a fly in the eyes of the engineers, and i think they had "other major issues" in the past they were running scared away from it and lots of them lost their life, so there is "something bigger" which will be explained in Prometheus 2 and 3...
