MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:48 PMI was thinking about Prometheus today and it occurred to me that there has not been a science fiction film in recent memory that I enjoyed less than Prometheus. I found a list of some big-budget films rated as the worst science fiction films to come out since the year 2000. Where would you guys place Prometheus in the list of the following films when arranged from worst to best?

Note: I did not see Aeon Flux or Stark Trek: Nemesis so I did not rank them

I was offended by the pretentiousness of the script (was already burned by LOST and all the speculation and mysteries that went nowhere) and the special effects and visuals did not impress me in the least. The entire film just seemed stupid to me. I am a huge David Lynch fan so usually like movies that leave you wondering and interpreting things but saw this as just lazy writing combined with a lack of respect for the audience. ESPECIALLY after Scott gave a speech on how modern science fiction films are killing the genre because they are not intelligent and nuanced. He insults modern scifi films like Moon and District 9 and then puts out garbage like this?

I actually haven't seen a lot of these as I have stopped going to the movies on a regular basis because of all the crap. But based on what I have seen:
1. Star Wars, Episode 2
2. AVP 2
3. tie AVP and Prometheus--mainly because there was a germ of a good idea in AVP, too. And I like Lance Henricksen. Actually, and I'd never thought I'd say this, I thought AVP was better. But I will watch Prometheus when it comes on late night cable and make a final decision.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 7:11 PMprometheus was no District 9 not by a long shot. I guess I've been burned so I'm not to likely to be so let down, I guess I kind of expect things to be not as cool as I'd like because nothing seems as cool as when I was younger. That's just me though.
Like I was completely pissed at AVP Like totally mad for a month Now I just watch it on TV and don't even feel. To me nothing will be as cool as the original alien movie or even aliens after that it all feels like it went downhill

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 7:22 PMIt was definitely rude to insult District 9 and Moon, they were very good movies, and wouldn't even compare them with Prometheus.
God even the main actor in District 9 wasn't even a real actor but the directors best friend and he was a much much much better actor than anyone in Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 7:26 PM@LordSoth, yeah I think Scott has been really pompous and arrogant about Prometheus and has built it up to this science fiction masterpiece that is going to rescue the genre from all the "simple minded" modern sci-fi films. When in fact, it is a weak entry into the genre that does not even surpass relatively low budget films like Pandorum or Daybreakers. The guy has bought into his own hype and it is starting to show in his work.

On another note, I don't know how many fans here still hate Aliens, but there seemed to be lot of it when I first joined. Even if one does not like the direction Cameron took Alien, do people think this is a better film?
Moot question, I suspect.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 9:01 PMSince the beginning of the millennium or decade? Since 2010 is Prometheus since 2000, I have to say it is within the top 5 of worse.
