MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 9:58 AMShe reminded me a lot of Ripley....the hot android version.
Mr.Yutani (Detective Hudson)
MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:00 AMHuh...still going for that transgender thing mentioned a little bit ago...

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:08 AM1. She refers to Weyland as "Father". (All androids with the emotion chip have a desire to "belong" to a biological family like humans, as does David).
2. She slams another android (David) up against a wall. Never seen a human do that in this universe.
3. We never saw her in Cryo-sleep.
4. We never saw her having sex with Cap'n "love the one your with".
5. We never see her eat or drink (except for the drink she asks David to make her.
6. We never see her die.
She'll be back.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:13 AM6. we never see her die .... come on DB you cant say that !! :p
imagine if they did remove her character and leaved more space for janek , fifield , milburn and chace and ravel ..much much better ...

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:15 AMReally?!
Funny, I thought she was one of the most interesting and strongest characters in the film!..
The amount of waste was just tremendous: I thought there was so much could have been done with Vickers that it was almost immoral the way they wasted her.
Her hard-boiled aggression, laced with common sense versus the big flirt/ride Janek like a pony episode plus the whole burning resentment Weyland thing gave her character so much dimension that was lacking elsewhere. Vickers was awesome.
I think the waste of Vickers is one of the biggest crimes to a Story, ever.
[*Edit after a minutes thought: not one of the most interesting, the most interesting].

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:16 AMWhat stood out about her you ask????
Did you not see the camel toe?????

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:17 AMI agree with allinamberclad, I quite liked her.
Remember Ripley was stiff who was a bugger for sticking to protocol in the original Alien? Vickers reminded me of that a little. I think it was a waste what happened to her.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:21 AM@db youve got to be kidding me, i swear you people watching the movie either decided to goto the bathroom during the movie or just didnt pay attention.
vickers shows far more ranges of emotions than david, she shows her anger and disgust at david and threatens to pull his sockets out and when all the bad stuff is going down she becomes frightened to the point of wanting to get the hell off the ship. david on the other hand is always calm and casual even when his head is about to be ripped off.
sure we never see her in cryosleep, but guess what we never saw captain janek or alot of other crew members rising from cryosleep either so whats your point. And in the beginning after shaw was woken up by david. We see her on the floor doing push ups, in her cryounderwear with her hair wet, why would an android need to do push ups, in underwear designed for cryosleep?

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:23 AM@Frantz:
I disagree my friend. Sure she called out emotionally as the ship rolled onto her, she has an emotion chip in her, but dead?... don't think so!
I mean this "version" of her may be flat as a pancake but that's the beautiful thing about robots... there's always another one in a box hidden on another ship... somewhere.

To blend in... kinda' like Ash did.
Hmmm. Remember, emotion chips? Worst idea ever for a robot. Never works the same way twice.
PS. LOL... Yes, Like so many, I REALLY had to pee... but I didn't. Wasn't gonna' miss a single frame.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:39 AMEmotion chips in robots are a bad idea full stop! Remember what happened to Data from Star Trek?

WhyDontTheyFreezeHim
MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:39 AM@ allinamberclad @Merc7 - Agreed. I really like Vickers and think more shouldve been shown of her...and yup, she is indeed a very nice piece of bread. :)
@itsjeremy - Youre probably right. She did show a lot of emotion when things got bad...I just like the idea of her being an android.

Come on, I think you really have to be dreaming up a storm if you seriously think she's an android. She's dead.
That said, for me, it is one of the easiest ways to describe everything that was wrong with this film - how could you possibly not see that Vickers is a stand out character and do something with it?
To me, that is the kind of character that people sit down and consider making major changes to a story for not just kill off in such a pointless and wasteful way. "Rolled on because she's too damn stupid to run to the side and not in the path of a falling ship.."... Really? How damn insulting to the character and the audience,........I'm finding it really hard to understand what happened, here.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 10:59 AMPrometheus was a 3 hr movie shrunk to 2 hours, i would have rathered small bits of boring imformation to general frustration of just not knowing. but thats lindelof for you. he doesnt leave things ambiguous he just leaves it open to interpretaton.

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:24 AMI believe she was only programmed to run in a straight line.
Your argument is therefore invalid. ; }

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 11:56 AMdb are you winding us up?
1. She refers to Weyland as "Father". (All androids with the emotion chip
have a desire to "belong" to a biological family like humans, as does David).

She bristles with anger when her father calls David "the closest thing he has to a son" and again is angry when her father says that Shaw and holloway are in charge. We know from later dialogue that there is a real power struggle between vickers and Weyland, - if she stayed at home she would be in boardroom arguments in her fathers absense, and would prefer if he popped his clogs, and died like all kings do.
She is upset that her father trusts David with his plans and not her. That is an insult to her, as a blood relative, versus a created android (fits in well with the movies theme, don't ya think?) as well as aggravating the power struggle.
also she cries when her father dies, David doesn't. He just wishes Weyland a nice trip. She is also upset at having to torch holloway, but determined to do it to preserve other people from similar fate.
2. She slams another android (David) up against a wall. Never seen a human do that in this universe.

They are androids, not Terminators. Ash got knocked around easily enough didn't he?
Precisely because she's not an android, she is angry about her father trusting David more than her, and she threatens to 'find whatever cord' makes him work and rip it out. If she were a droid, she wouldn't be very familiar with what makes androids work, wouldn't she?
3. We never saw her in Cryo-sleep.

The wet footsteps from her Cryo tube weren't enough? Her need to exercise not a clue? Her libido?

4. We never saw her having sex with Cap'n "love the one your with".
What type of rating were they aiming for? And besides, she didn't like the captain, she just wanted a good old casual hook up. Probably for her ego, control and because being a wound up corporate stiff, angry at the father builds up a lot of stress, and Janek is as good as any to use to work off some of that stress. He's not looking to get emotionally involved, he has a bit of status in that he's a captain. Why do you need to see them have sex to believe they did? Why else put that scene in, and have her say "my quarters 10 minutes". If she changed her mind, wouldnt' he be a bit different to her later, about being a tease? Instead, he makes sure to tell her exactly how long she has to get to her pod.
5. We never see her eat or drink (except for the drink she asks David to make her.
She eats in her private quarters, not in the canteen with the 'employees'.
6. We never see her die.

You're right, seeing the huge ship roll on top of her (and then stop) doesn't mean she's dead... What's missing is not an image of her corpse... it's been squished into the ground. What's missing is an explanation of why Shaw was smart enough to go the side, and Vickers, who is athletic, and smart, just kept running in the same direction, even though the huge shadow around her would have let her know how far she needed to go to escape in any direction... to the side... not so far... straight ahead... the end of the shadow is moving faster than she is.
I already wrote a thread about how odd it is that she chose to use and escape pod, rather than a LIFEBOAT to leave Prometheus. (doesn't make sense from the characters point of view, but, does from the writer's point of view - Vickers apparently... is unaware of the monster in her lifeboat. )
She'll be back.

No, she won't. She's not Arnie, and even the Arnie terminator would have been crushed by what is arguably THE biggest steamroller scene in movie history.
Vickers is not a boring character. She's a decent character, given little to do, and a stupid end.
Broing character - hwo about the doctor... I don't recall a single piece of dialogue from her that isn't functional - status of atmosphere, status of air in the chamber where they remove their helmets, etc etc. I don't recall any thing that could be called conversation.

No intentional winding up... Just looking forward to your well-versed justifications.
You never disappoint. You're either a professional critic... or the writer they should have employed for this project... not sure which yet. Collating.
