MemberOvomorphJune 09, 2012While most hated it, I think that the much talked about flute control system in the film is actually a stroke of genius on the part of writer Damon Lindelof. He keenly observed (most likely after watching the four Alien films and the two AVP movies) that the Xenomorph shows almost no predilection for musical instruments. The Engineers most likely noticed this as well and came to the conclusion that, out of all the musical instruments that some other organism might play, almost none would willingly choose to learn to play the flute (rock guitar sure, but who is going to get the girls with a sick flute solo?). This could be pointing to the fact that the Engineers real weakness is nerdy androids. Furthermore, it explains why the Engineer ripped David's head off when he spoke to him. David's well combed hair and his ability to learn the Engineers language, may have convinced the Engineer that David might a flute playing kind of guy. Could this be the real story behind the Engineers aggression?
