This was taken from a comment I saw on another site, and I did a little research and everything seems to check out! : To give some historical/mythological background that may shed some light, Ridley stated the SJ culture was based on Persian Myths. This would be Sumerian/Akkadian/Hindu. This is all taken from the Atra Hasis. Creators - "G"ods- Annunaki - Dragon Humanoids (Naga, Dragon Kings,) Helpers - "g"ods - Igigi - Engineers. (Android like living beings....BIOmechanical humanoid. Key features- Pale skin and large black eyes. Also known as watchers, Grigori, and Archons) (in many summerian texts they are actually referred to as "Pilots". Pretty much the Annunaki Air Force.) When the Annunaki began terraforming the earth, they had the Igigi do the work for them. After a few thousand years the Igigi revolted and went on strike. The Annunaki then decided to create humans to do the work for them. They sacrificed one of the rebel Igigi named Geshtu to use his blood and dna to make human beings, by mixing it with elements native to the earth. (In the movie, this can be explained by the the different oval spaceship at the beginning representing the spaceship of the Annunaki) (It can also be explained by the concept art that leaked from the official book this week) (According to wikipedia it also says this about the Igigi: "Though sometimes synonymous with the term "Annunaki," in one myth the Igigi were the younger gods who were servants of the Annunaki, until they rebelled and were replaced by the creation of humans." This is reflectled exactly in the concept art below!) Even though the humans were created and did the work, 1/3 of the Igigi still werent satisfied and sought revenge for Geshtu, so they rebelled again against the Annunaki Lords and began breeding/mixing with the human females creating Nephelim. This is what sparked the Prime Lord Enlil to flood the earth. Some humans were saved by Enki, the Lord responsible for the sacrifice of Geshtu and the creation of humans. Enlil and the rest of the annunaki decide to return home and let the humans develop on their own. Enki and his family stay behind. The Igigi are forced to leave earth as well. The remaining rebel Igigi are imprisoned on a planet on the way back to the homeworld and it is said as punishment and as a mark they are altered into a demonic appearance, no longer retaining the Angelic appearance. Enki and his crew are probably the ones leaving the maps for humans to find, along with the ones helping humans advance throughout time. The sacrfice engineer is Geshtu The lone engineer is most likely Marduk or a servant/worshipper of Marduk. The xeno is Mushussu, a creature Marduk fashioned and used as his pet. The "Engineers" we see are trying to destroy Earth are of the Igigi rebels who view earth as their own. They have always despised humans because the Annunaki saw us as more in their likeness than them. IT's possible that the Igigi have long since destroyed or taken over the annunaki and the homeworld, and Earth was like going to claim the prize or spoils. They mustve used to the Xeno's to win this war and through its perfection it has began to destroy and infect the Igigi who manufacture and transport it, creating more Mushussu. the xeno in Alien is most likely an older pilot igigi birthed Mushussu egg crossed with human or a future Annunaki birthed one which would explain the size difference in hosts. It is mentioned in several lesser stories that Marduk created the Mushussu out of using the essence of the Gods' (Annunaki) he killed as a symbol of his conquering and being able to control them... ie the mural. metber, excellent huntsmanship. If you're correct about what the Prometheus trilogy is based upon and where the trilogy may be going, it looks like GALACTIC APOCALYPSE (or DELUGE) is on! And maybe Weyland/Yutani coalition was a Private Ownership of Galactic Assets-protective take-over mechanism, once TSHTF. :)

Makes no sense whatsoever, not a grain of truth. Did you notice how the film bore no parallels with greek mythology at all? This is just wild and ungrounded fan fiction. it's ridiculous. No screenwriter worth his salt uses metaphors like this.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 3:40 AM
This isn't greek mythology, it's persian :)

@westy do some research yourself and come up with something better then man....it's a real theory....with scientists and evidence to promote the theory and everything...hahah... notice i said evidence and not proof.....and also happens to be the premise of which prometheus is based....don't believe me?....read the official reviews if you have to.... look for names like erich von daniken ...wether you believe the theory or not....its what the film is based on in a more simplistic way...at least for this (what seems to be first) film....

@mertber Good theory. I was kinda thinking the same thing but more based on God and rebel angels hating us etc... I know a little about the sumerian stories and that all adds up very well.

We should also discuss the relevance of Cuneiform Script in the film, the most ancient of languages. It pops up in hundreds of horror/adventure films. Cunieform's concept is fascinating because of its reliance on ABSOLUTE designs (classical geometrics) to communicate information. It is considered the most advanced language as it is "universal". It is said to convery imagery all conscious beings can relate to, and controversially, represents a hidden language that lies dormant in all mankind. We just need a way of tapping into it. Learning it might help Of relevance to the film, not only is Cuneiform a spoken language, but it is also representative of musical notation. Recent discoveries show it predates the Greek model of the Pentatonic Scale by several thousand years. Cuneiform not only conveys a language but also potentially can relate instructions through music. Archeo-Musicologist Prof. Richard Dumbrill has published a very interesting paper regarding this, for those curious. So, much as we laughed at the "Willy Wonka" moment in Prometheus - it was actually a very well researched idea, and an intellectual addition to the mythology. It is possible the first cultures were using a hybrid visual/musical language between one another. There's no evidence it was used to control spaceships...but hat's off to the writers for putting it out there (That's the only positive thing I'll have to say about Spaights and Lindelof - EVER lol)

If anyone is further interested, I suggest reading the works of Zecharia Sitchin, he practically is the pioneer of the theory of Ancient Aliens being involved with Sumerian culture. @Game_Over_Man What you brought up is very interesting! I'll definitely be researching it and also Prof. Richard Dumbrill's paper, if you have a link it will be much appreciated

Intelligent thoughts... Yes that makes sense to me. And i think the most epic sci-fi plots have roots in myths which are thousands of year old. These are mostly successfull as these "old tales" are so connected to humans so they easily can "assimilate" the concept and follow the story emotional. That persian myth could really explain some of the things, if it was really the base spaith/lindelof started their script. Anyway, in an objective way, prometheus lets for my taste "to much space for interpretation", like the final sequence in kubricks "2001" where you can think and talk maybe 1000years what that should mean. As we are "humans", we have limited imagination and understanding. And it is best sci-fi if strange things happen, as the aliens think and work in OTHER ways, following OTHER logic and causality then humans do.
So... where do the Predators fit in?
I think they are advanced but not creators. So you can think of them like species which are enjoying their hunting lifestyle over someone else's created species or work.

In one of the murals, we SEE that the engineer does have some kind of "devotional pet" like a dog for his joy.

@Mertber...and just as a side note for people.....if they are indeed further interested....the first 3 seasons of the history channels 'Ancient Aliens' is on you tube...and deals with all this stuff...rather thoroughly....i might add....wether your into the belief or theory or not....its compelling viewing....and again is where the story of 'Prometheus' the film is rooted. :)

@free planet no prob man....all good....it's just a great series..much to think about...great thing about it is down through the series..they take you back to the same places and go into even more detail and discovery and i have to be clear about this...the real selling point or indeed mind f**k is that they take you to REAL Places ....places that exist on earth that you or i could visit...like the egyptian pyramids or mohinjo daro (argh! spelling) etc and attempt to explain how the ancient civilisations could possibly have known how to build such temples with their primitive tools with such mathematical and symmetrical accuracy that we would need machines for today...and the fact that they seem to line up with and indeed are designed upon star constellations like orion and specifically orisons belt...on the same platitudes of earth at certain points of the year...and the same consistencies shown with varying ancient cultures with the same designs and same interstellar knowledge that couldn't possibly have met as they're either thousands of miles away...or indeed hundreds of years apart on differing continents.....mental yet brilliant stuff....enjoy it

Amazing how on one hand he can work in these references by (ahem) "borrowing" from various mythologies, but can't write a plot that gets two men killed without having their brains disappear, and their colleagues get amnesia, and their captain and corporate overseer go all Kama Sutra. It's mad in a good way, and maddening in a bad way at the same time. :)

Nickel

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 6:26 AM
@hadleyshope....totally agree man...fact remains though...the premise of the film is based in this idea....they've changed it and embellished through creative license for the purposes of this film...and came up with next to nothing.....beauty and beast.

Great theory & probably the closest - you don't have to by into the works of Chariots of the Gods etc, but it's what Ridley has stated the film is influenced by... It's Ancient Sumerian I think - not Greek... The 2nd film will be the "Empire strikes back" of the series - more epic and darker...

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 7:22 AM
ALSO, at the opening scene - the sacrifice seems to be being watched by the huge saucer UNTIL he ingests the black goo... Like the master was watching the slave - making sure they carry out their mission...

Please don't everyone beat me up, but check this video video out. It is just very topical to why movies and media keep bringing up the ideas. SciFi and art are a way for us to test out new ideas before we get to them and see how we should act. There are some really interesting things mentioned in the Christian/Judeo bible about giant people and supernatural beings[demons] that try to fashion themselves as gods before man. If you take the bible account and follow the families that left to find new homes all over the world, the stories seem to have a common thread. Years of mans influence and not having them as only an oral tradition, you start getting talking animals and aliens[demons]. Supposedly their is an flood legend in almost every people if you look hard enough. The details are a bit fuzzy between the but all point to a single group of people being saved from calamity. Once again... I'm just saying, don't start trying to rip me a new one.

There is value on this post...good show for sharing. All stories have theri basis in something. As far as the movie goes, The goo is the star of the show. It is so unpreicable that no one knows what it will do. but they found out one thing...if you mix goo with sperm and egg in a human...out comes ALIEN...one of the worst lifeforms to any race....thats all I know

Hello, All! I don't know about the story written in the first part of the thread but I thought I would through my 2 cents in. The geologist who went crazy. Why would he go crazy but not the geologist? Where did the snakey looking aliens come from? Remember the worms from when the people were walking? I think the worms were the first to become hosts to the bioweapon. Hence we see the snakey looking aliens. So why didn't the crazy Scottish geologist have something pop out of his head. Presumably Mr. Scott (a.k.a. Fifield) didn't become a host because of the massive damage he suffered from the acid. The ooze interacted with his bollod because of the wound and voila, we have something like a zombie running around. The snakey looking aliens were the result of the ooze making hosts out of the worms. The better the host, the better the resulting alien. I can't remember which Alien movie it was but the alien came out of a dog host and the resulting alien was dog-like. I think the purpose behind the propagation of our species was to form a good stock for the bioweapon. By using us, the Engineers would have an excellent bioweapon that was controllable. Granted, as I write this, I am thinking of more questions. Also, I suspect that the Engineers may have a collective conscious. Someone asked why they looked so perfect? They are presumably perfect by comparison to us.

Interesting thoughts Dev&Char4ever; the Alien with the dog host was Alien 3 right? Someone in another thread mentioned the writer of the film stating that the black goo was a plot device to do whatever he needed, but I like your thinking better haha.
