LV-223 was abandoned for 2,000 years and Earth hadn't been contacted or destroyed since. This being the case I think it's safe to say that the Engineer Race is either extinct now or very close to it. When Shaw gets to their home world I would expect her to find one of two things: 1. The Engineer world in ruin and very few if any left. Perhaps they destroyed themselves messing around with the black goo or they destroyed their civilization in some other manner. 2. A planet with Engineers doing their thing and being controlled by another being and they had no idea about what was going on at LV-223 or that the facility even existed. Which would explain why no one went to LV-223 to check on what happened or initiate a containment plan and remove or destroy the spacecraft to make sure nothing could ever get off the planet if it was in fact a failed weapon research facility.

When shit went down....why didn't they call in reinforcements? They've got a magic flute to start a spaceship, they have ridiculous holographic tech, walls that act like touchscreens....don't they have radios? And why didn't the survivor just get his ass off LV-223? What on earth is he doing fast asleep?! Infuriatingly easy to dismantle. I'm giving Lindelof a lot of stick...but he did a good job of the Star Trek reboot...must have been a fluke, or he needed more time reworking this script (he only spent a few weeks on this...think we may have our problem)

Possible clue about the motivation of the engineers to destroy earth... At the end that huge face sucker thing grabs the last engineer and when it's mouth flares open it kind of has a little bit of a look of the "predator" mouth. I wonder if the "predator" was the result of one of the planet destruction/seeding/squiggly genetic projects that the engineers had started somewhere else, got out of hand, developed itself technologically/space travel and then the Engineers and Predators ran into each other and the Predators started kicking Engineer butt so the engineers were like OMG look at what we did and they decided (sometime around 2000 years ago) to kill off every planet they'd seeded (the ones shown in the holograms - maybe the military installation was building a ship/WMD's for each planet they'd seeded). But that was interrupted by their WMD getting loose on them. The Engineer's reaction to David and the humans could basically be that they had intended to "redo" or eliminate earth back 2000 years ago long before we ever had space travel but now he's been asleep for 2000 years and humans found them - mission definitely not accomplished - time to finish it. Of course, anytime the black goo meets an organism, the organism gets bigger, stronger, and meaner (like the geologist or the effects it had on the worms turning them into snakes, or on a human sperm...). Maybe that's what happened to the predators, just simple little reptile people until they got goo on their planet and they turned into vicious smart mean hunters of everything created by the Engineers. Interesting. No real answers. Just more questions.
