Would you want a sequel under any circumstances?

With negative word of mouth dropping Prometheus' box office gross, and with Brave (Pixar films always do extremely well) and Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter just weeks away, I was wondering if you would still want a Prometheus sequel if the budget for the next film was much lower and the director was someone not well known. It seems like Prometheus is on track to earn only somewhat more than 2004's AVP which grossed 172 million worldwide but only cost 60 million to make (still made almost 3X its budget back). Prometheus also has a problem in that it may have had one of the biggest and most costly marketing campaigns in recent memory as the website, viral videos, trailers, constant tv spots, and even train station (yes they built a Prometheus train station advertisement at one point) must have cost a fortune. I know for AVP they recouped a lot of costs with toys, the DVD release, and the comics, so while they didn't make a huge profit, they went ahead with a sequel anyway. Unfortunately even if Prometheus does well with licensing deals and blu-ray/dvd sales, it may still fail to be truly profitable without breaking 400 million dollars worldwide at the box office (I'm talking the kind of profitable that gets a big-budget, big name director sequel). The sequel to AVP, as we all know, had a lower budget and much less competent directors. One could say it was done solely for the hardcore fans of AVP and was not really meant to be appreciated by general audiences. So as fans of the film, do you want a small budget sequel or would you rather they just leave the franchise alone if it fails to generate the cash a big-budget sequel requires?

I think many of you misunderstood my question. I meant would you still want a sequel if it was going to have a very small budget and be handed off to another director (not huge like Scott or Cameron but someone like Blomkamp).

I really hope that Prometheus be profitable, or else I will feel a little disappointed. This film is designed to be a starting point (especially for the end) so it'll give you the benefit of the doubt before mourn :p

Hell yeah, I want to see the Engineer home world. Director isn't terribly important to me. I place ability to tell a great/intriguing story over famous names. Renown is gravy.

Perhaps a lower budget might Resurrect the franchise; I doubt it though. If it were a stand-alone story, without too many references to extremely stupid story of this movie, there might be a chance something good would come out of it. On the other hand, I'd rather see any budget go to something new. Prometheus was so, so bad, that I think it's highly unlikely that anything worthwhile will now be made. There are SO MANY great scifi stories that are now more worthy than anything ALIEN. Let's finally see ENDER's GAME made, for example. So count me in as a NO. Let this thing die. I don't want to ever hear about ALIEN again - that's how bad Prometheus was. I just can't believe anybody liked it at all.

"Would you want a sequel under any circumstances?" That was your question. The only sensible answer I can find, is: "No". Quality counts for something - or it should. I would love a sequel, [in the principle of Sequels: I find I could care less as far as Prometheus is concerned]: but not under the circumstances where the sequel is garbage.

I wouldn't want a sequel if it didn't have the proper budget. A director that isn't a big name might work, but the money has to be there for it to be proper. I would hope it would look as good if not better than Prometheus. The thing is, if there is a set direction to go I want it to go that way not have it get changed over once or twice or like Alien 3 and no one even knows what the F**k is going on then I don't want it to see the light of day.

BTW I didn't expect Prometheus to beat Madagascar, that would have been a miracle. I'm looking at the numbers compared to MIB 3 and the Avengers. I'm curious if Prometheus stays afloat for the next month. Yes I like the film but I don't really know if the majority will.
