MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 12:43 AMIt was worse than a disgrace. It was a calculated, cynical film designed not to tell a story but to confuse the audience so that they can make sequels, prequels, special editions, video games, comics, novels, etc. in order to answer (or not) the million questions they raised. Prometheus has no beginning or end. And I won't even go into the plot holes, one-dimensional characters, moronic dialogue, confused tone (actually absence of it), or the overall stupidity of every action taken by every single character. Prometheus is not designed to exist in cinema. It is designed to start its life OUTSIDE cinema - on discussion boards and all the channels I mentioned earlier. This is anti-cinema.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 12:49 AMI do have to agree with you in a way. I hate it when they do this in movies, I'm getting old now, and I don't want to have to jump onto the internet everytime I watch a movie to try and understand it.
What happend to the good old days where you watched a movie and that was that. It seems to be about changing endings or getting the full story in the special bluray eddition now days. Bleh.
I liked the movie don't get me wrong, but it wasn't the best.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 1:02 AMI did like the film, but I don't think it was a perfect one.
On Rotten Tomatos it is currently at 74%. There are several members that like it as well as several members that don't. I do know you have left a review, my question is why continue starting threads hating on the film. There seems to be no point of this thread other than spreading hate.
I would think you would leave a site dedicated to a film many have looked forward to and actually love or start a thread that actually might begin an intelligent conversation.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 1:05 AMthere's nothing to understand it was a straight forward mess any film that leaves you having to fill the plot yourself with speculation and conjecture is not good writing . imho it's cynical and lazy.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:01 AMGreat find, I think this clearly states what many of us are so disappointed with when it comes to Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:58 AM@drakeequation
A friend who was equally disappointed in the film as I was mailed it to me. Its from Red Letter Media's Facebook page (Red Letter is the guy who so accurately reviews the Star Wars prequels).
I thought it very accurately put into words how many of us are feeling.
@cinefan
I have been a member of this site for 7 months. I was more excited than words could describe at the promise of this movie - I was horrifically let down by its failure on so many levels. This forum post Prometheus release has served as group therapy for many of us who have been traumatised by this mess of a movie. Please dont insult me with cheap shots talking about intelligent conversation - Ive had a belly full of intelligent conversation pre-release - Unfortunately cinefan - thats the problem - the movie is not an intelligent movie.

Ummm because this is the DISLIKED section?
He's disappointed and his point is valid.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 3:25 AMAs a consumer everyone that parts with their hard earned cash to buy any product be it a three course meal, a hotel room, a house, or a movie is entitled to complain or praise it depending on your own view of the product supplied. A movie is a product like any other and opinions expressed are your right as a consumer.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 4:11 AM@The High Priest: i am doing my best to hold off the swelling
negative feelings i am having after finally seeing PROMETHEUS
this past friday, and will see it again next week (this time in IMAX)
because i want to see if letting some time pass by, and seeing it again
could possibly compel me to appreciate it more
but i my instincts are suggesting the warranted feelings you stated in
your post are spot on. i can't say that i truly hate this film, but i can
say that i truly hate that i was let down so thoroughly by this film

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 5:46 AMMaybe they don't answer the questions because they can't think of a good answer or at least one the fans would be happy with
also i did think that some of the characters actions were a little strange and non realistic and i have to admit i was disapointed by the movie straight after seeing it but after getting home and thinking about it i thought this was a good movie not just beacuse of the scenery or visuals maybe it didn't answer questions but add more but it did show alot of strange things that get people devising new and intersting theories and then those people discuss it that's one of the best things this movie might not be what i or alot of fans expected but it wasn't the worst that it could have been if it makes sequels and answers the most important questions then i think it'll all turn out good

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 7:23 AMHigh Priest - Keep throwing the hate because there are much more that hate the movie than like it. Rotten Tomatoes is a small snippet of many of the vast reviews. When Roger Ebert gives a turd 4 stars; then you start to question the validity of paid critics.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 7:39 AMwell, to me its also like if PAMELA ANDERSON (aged 20) INVITES me to go on HOLIDAYS with her.
For weeks and month she talks to me, how NICE thsi hollidays will be etc.
I PAY the hollidays.
But when i then finally arrive at that hollyday-island, there is no pamela anderson, but her grandma waving me and i see her teethless mouth.
The island is nice, the weather is fine - but there is no pamela anderson, and i do my best to enjoy the time, but this is simply NOT what has been promised.
So i may come home back from these holidays and feel i had a nice time, but i have a "bad smell in my mouth".
Anyway, i may go next year again to that island, as its even nicer then most other islands, hopefully Pam will be there next year, but i dont expect her to be there. Fooled once... you dont trust again.
Thats how i feel about Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 10:03 AMAs much as i agree that no one should hijack positive threads - no matter how tempting it might be - i'm getting a little sick of people telling others that they should be more positive. What if there's nothing to be positive about? What then? I should I plaster on a shit-eating grin just to make you happy?! Godammit!
Also: if I see anyone blaming a lack of love on the excuse 'your expectations were too high'...really?....too high?....so it's THEIR fault that the film has the genuine problems it has?! My expectations were soooooo high for 'Inception' that i was sure it wouldn't reach them. But guess what? It smashed them to pieces and rendered them anew. Wasn't quite the same after seeing it.
People should acknowledge the issues a film has, but also admit it doesn't bother them. I'd have no issue with that.
But to deny that they even exist? It's almost trolling.
I'd hate to agree with Red Letter Media (the guy is particularly scathing...if not fucking hilarious) but they're right. The whole thing has been set and made for sequels, and it breaks my heart to admit it.
So many questions asked. No answers given.
And if we don't get a sequel due to criticism or lack of box office return? Then 'Prometheus' will just be another film that doesn't really make sense. And considering the lack of dark hearted Sci-Fi we have these days: that truly is a tragedy.
Shot by their own gun, and we're the ones that suffer.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 12:23 PMSaw Prometheus last night. Am a long-standing Alien and Aliens fan.
This movie is what Phantom Menace was to the original Star Wars trilogy - it's a total disaster.
Ridley Scott should know better. Has he simply surrounded himself with too many Yes-men? The script was a disaster. The characters made no sense. Was there any point even having Charlize Theron (terrible) and Idris Elba (terrible) in this film? The cast was so good, but their lines and character-development were so brutal.
Admittedly, the film did LOOK amazing, but there were too many holes, and honestly, it has tainted the series that I loved so much.
My hope is that 10 years from now, someone re-does this film with a smaller budget and much tighter script. Prometheus is a disappointment, and nobody will be watching this film once the hype dies down. If you haven't seen it... don't.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 12:48 PM@High Priest : Let bygones be bygones...
I was like you, i was really outraged by the cheap script and the nonsensical reactions of the actors during the movies.
Well, it was more than week ago. I've tried to find in french reviews some comfort, but even the harsher critics (like telerama for instance, which is well known in France to burn a lot of movies) gave it a good review....
I was nonplussed... I guess that lots of people were waiting for a good Sci-Fi Movie, and they took Prometheus as a "good" ersatz.
Well, life goes on, and you should, like me, forget this crappy movie. Earth won't stop spinning will it ?

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 4:00 PM@Alain,
I hear you bro - However I am 42 years of age, at the age of 8 Alien was an obsession of mine. It is one of my favourite movies of all time - one of the reasons for the love of this movie was actually the mystery surrounding the Space Jockey -Yes believe it or not, it was Gigers amazing Derelict, Jockey , Egg chamber which really sparked my imagination and intrigued me so deeply about this movie.
When I heard that Scott was going to build a prequel based on the SJ my excitement was palpable.
I stuck with this even when it was announced my beloved Jockey was not fossilized skeletal remains but a ........."suit"
This concerned me but I still gave the team the benefit of the doubt.....
Then this unforgivable childs play, ass wipe bullshit story came out.....
I could have created a better screenplay when I was 8........
You CANNOT have professionals fucking up the BASICS of screenwriting. This is why I am so annoyed and need to keep venting. Maybe my voice will be heard. Maybe the people responsible will feel the TRUE passion of the REAL TRUE fans.....
Who knows - What I do know is there are some really passionate and intelligent fans out there, who really do care about this franchise. That is the one amazing thing that has come from the post release of "Prometheus".
I have made some great like minded and talented friends that have given me much inspiration from been involved on this forum, and I feel collectively WE can make a difference moving forward with these movies. Maybe I am just an idealist, but some emotions and passions DO need to be voiced.
I hope that dufus Lindeloff is getting this feedback, and I feel sorry for Scott letting this through the net and tarnishing his legacy....

Alain
MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 4:32 PMThen we have two things in common : The age and an obsession about the first Alien, probably the best Horror movie ever made (Horror is note quite the term that should be used however. Fear would be more accurate).

MemberOvomorphJun-12-2012 12:19 AMI didnt like the movie either, thats why im posting in the dislike section after watching it.I had great hopes as a fan of the alien movies(the first 2 films). It was not an intelligent movie. I was really getting excited with the epic first scene then it all went to shit in my opinion. it felt like the movie was gonna be sooo deep but it failed miserably. The characters the action just everything was disappointing. It could have been so epic because of the big ideas being presented, but it felt like a bunch of kids wrote the damn thing. They are probably gonna tie it in with a war with the predators somehow down the line i can feel it lol.
