So let's talk about all the great stuff in the book. I got mine earlier and it's fantastic. One thing it does confirm that I've seen people debating is the fact that the planet at the beginning IS in fact eatrh. Gotta go read some more of it.

My eyes have been molesting my copy all day but as I'm at work I don't have a lot of time to post. I'll be home soon though and I'll give some in depth thoughts and observations.

@Darth...I did do a search. @ threads came up that were started when the book first hit amazon. Didn't see yours though and the others were just about the book coming out, not a discussion of what's in the book. So maybe you should take your own advice as far as the search function. !!!!!!!!BOOK SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!! Moving on, some things I found interesting... A while back there was an article which stated that Prometheus had a Russian space program influence and showed pics of space suits and vehicles from the film Planeta Bur or Planet of the Storms which a lot of people dismissed as bs "propaganda. Well, this statement doesn't come out and say it but perhaps the space program and film were influences... Max's research delved into orbiting telescopes, deep space probes, the latest theories regarding life on other planets, the Mars Rover, jet propulsion, as well as space exploration at NASA and the European Space Program. "We even looked at the Russians and thought maybe we would do a retro space design." Other areas of research included science fiction cinema and the work of illustrators from the '50s and '60s...

@Darth...My bad, yours was one of the threads I saw when I did the search but since it was asking if anyone had seen the book, not talking about the book itself or what was in it I thought a new "discussion thread" was in order. Plus, as I said earlier, there was already a thread that was started when the book showed up on amazon so if you get down to it your thread wasn't needed either and you should have used the search functionas well.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BOOK SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The layout of the book is pretty cool. Basically each chapter is either a sequence, prop, wardrobe, spieces or make up etc. done in the film and, of course, each chapter tells a bit about how they came up with each. I really like that the book expands not just on the art but many aspects such as writing etc. The first 2 page spread are some great pics. One is what I guess is a computer rendering of one of the murals on the ceiling of the ampule chamber which is cool as you can see more detail and make out what it is easier. The 2nd is an awesome computer rendering of very xeno-ish hands wrapping around a very xeno-ish egg which is opened at the top. I know some will be upset that a lot of this art wasn't used in the film but I'm happy with the film and also happy that we have the book in oreder to see all this exquisit art. They do talk about the Giger influence and how much they used and why. Very good stuff. ***EDIT*** Another thing that BLEW ME AWAY was a small section with the Engineer head which blew up on the table. I the film when they animate the head with electricity I could have sworn the head and movements were CG. Now the scene might have been touched up using CG but in the book you see the prop head that was used and it is just amazing looking. The pic shows Scott messing with it and the caption says he was sprinkling talcum powder on it which "adds a luminosity to things that's incredible." That's no joke. Also very cool is what Fifield would have turned into if he was allowed to transform all the way before he was killed. Very, very cool. It sucks that I don't have a scanner but if you folks would like and it's okay with the staff I don't mind taking some pics and posting them. Let me know. I'm about halfway thru reading the book. Be back with more later.

Finished the book but like the film you have to go thru it more than once so I'll definitely keep pouring over it in the days to come. It really leaves me yearning for the special features on the upcoming blu ray. Seeing the making of the film and special fx is going to rock. I don't think it's hit stands yet but the next issue of Cinefex has a Prometheus cover and will have a lengthy write up on the special fx. Can't wait to check that out. The last page of the book says "I thought PROMETHEUS was so enjoyable - returning to the world of science fiction was so fun - I'm thinking about what the hell I might do for a PROMETHEUS 2.." RIDLEY SCOTT I hope that is a big hint that there will be one.

Wow, finally someone wants to talk about the book! Yes, I hope that quote is not just lip-service and Scott is actually excited and reinvigorated by the genre. I hope we get The Counselor and then nothing but sci-fi/horror and sci-fi thrillers from Scott after that. Not that I don't love damn near anything he puts out. He is my favorite director. He's laid some semi-rotten eggs but nothing too terrible. I'm a lover of Scott's films and a lover of horror and sci-fi. You put the 2 together and you've got pure fried gold imo.

I bought mine at Barnes and Noble(ordered last week) last night and also a Cinefex book with Hulk on the front cover, but with an awesome Prometheus section. It shows how I believe Fifield should've been(I think he looks like the Lon Chaney Wolfman in the movie). Anyway, Prometheus: The Art of the Film is an awesome book. I feel like buying another one so I can use one to constantly look through and not worry about fingerprints.
