Who created the Dinosaurs and other animals?

So if the Engineers created us, who created the dinosaurs, them, and other animals? Easy, god. Well here is the thing. Our fossil records shows that Man has been on this planet for thousands of years. The cave painting in the film pre-dated the others by 35,000 years. So, we know man was here then and that the Engineers visited to influence the painting of the caves. Now, since the earth was a gas laden, hot mess, when life first formed in our seas, which took millions of years to become land dwelling life, here is my theory. The Engineers did not create life here, they simply helped it along. They took what was here, refinded it, and let nature take its course. Why in water? Easy, that feeds into the entire ecosystem. For the opening scene to be the creation of life on earth it would have to have been millions of years prior, and Earth would not be the scenic locale depicted. It was not very pleasant at that time according to all scientific research.

@Snorkelbottom ... lol bilateral symmetry is a thing of evolution not engineer DNA lolz. I think we need to focus on HUMAN creation rather than other organisms. Their DNA matches our, but certainly not a pachycephalosaurus XDXD

Hmmm I think it would be more of a recent and subtle change - after all how long have the engineers been around - surely over billions or 100's millions of years they would change dramatically - I mean look have fast we change! And because in the film there are clearly 8 cells and they are dividing as if to make a whole life form. And life on earth started with single celled organisms. And we know even fruit flys have 60 percent the same DNA as us and we can trace back most of the lineage from all these things very seperatly from us for 100's of millions of years! I wonder how far they actually thought into the plot and weather they just said we will leave it open so it could be any time from a few billion years ago to a few million - but I hope they had a sound 'real' theory behind it all : S !

In my understanding the Engineers didn't create life on Earth (in the first scene you can see there was already plant life) They just introduced their own genetic code in the ecosystem and to tweak evolution into developing humanoids similar to themselves. The probably did the same in different words with different degrees of success.

I thought of this too- My honest first thought was pretty logical I think: Engineer sacrifices himself on Earth, giving birth to DNA resulting in single-called organisms. Thousands of years later they come back, and interact with Humans- until give or take 100 AD, when they decided its time to "create by first destroying." Why are we assuming they waited for human life to spring forth before coming back? Maybe they had something to do with Dinosaurs extinction, etc. Also, Ridley NEVER said that it "wasn't Earth at the beginning," What he ACTUALLY said was "It doesn't have to be." Anyone who's been to the Isle of Skye will instantly go, "Oh hey they're on Earth." Anyone who HASN'T been there can argue about it till the cows come home. XD

I could have sworn there is grass depicted in the opening sequence. Grass is a flowering plant and flowering plants did not exist before 65 million years ago - about the same time the dinosaurs went extinct. On a geoligical time scale, 65 mya is basically 'yesterday'. i.e. approximately 98.5% of Earth's existence was before 65 mya. Assuming grass-like-plants are an evolutionarily 'late' development, then the planet depicted in the intro is somewhat far along, like Earth, in its evolution. (A big assumption but.. if you imagine the intro with Giraffes and Hippos, you can grasp what I'm saying.. it wouldn't be "primordial")

@ CerynJrey 1. The cells are at 8 divides in the film at the end so that's gone past single cells already! 2. we have fossils on earth dating back more than 3.4 billion years ago so it kinda messes the thousands of years idea up! 3. the start was shot in Iceland :P ... @donb Yer I cant remember if the grass / moss was in the film clearly. There just isnt enough info yet to know this yet : ( ...I hope they got all the answers later...
