engineers are non corporeal

At the start of prometheus we see an engineer sacrificing himself, but what if he was only meerly passing on his dna...to the children of earth...perhaps the engineers are non corporeal...theirs a certain type of jellyfish that sheds its body and regenerates it's cells to a younger version of itself..i forget what it's name is....but if alien is based on a parasitic wasp..then the perhaps ridley has gone for a similar take with the engineers.. They destroy their bodies and become non corporeal...and at some point they rebirth themselves...like some religions believe in re incarnation... The cave painting then not only pointing the direction to the engineers but also telling us that they have gone to the stars on the next level of enlightenment... Some engineers would have to remain ..whilst their children where still in their cradle as they would see themselves responsible for us.... What do you think?

its interesting to look at in that way but I doubt this is the case concerning the film. It just seems unlikely given the prosepct to the engineers general hostility towards mankind. The impression I initially got when I first saw the film was that of they made us, regretted it, saw that we are a threat and are too advanced (David symbolises this) and decided to eradicate us. Either that or the whole war theory surrounding the sequel of the the two engineer factions - the ones that created us vs. the xeno creators. Then again it could be something else entirely all over again. Will just have to wait a couple of years for the sequel to bring some much needed clarity.

Yeah but imagine the scene..it's 7 bc..a hollyman is Baptising.. a selected few from a crowd of devotee's suddenly he notices a black sludge rise up from the waters...the waters turn red and their is an eclipse (for dramatics) he has a vision ...on the oposite riverbank stands an engineer ..que gregorian creepy music the sun returns..cut back to current day... some archaeologists discover some new scrolls in kumran (dunno, if spelt right ..opologies in advance) About the historical event but their are also instructions..that don't make sense..right now (instructions for the future encounter on lv 223).

The Thought of Immortality I bet at some point in your life you've thought about living forever. Even as a kid, I remember thinking of how cool it would be. Sure, it's science fiction, but we as humans enjoy a little fiction in our lives. It allows our mind to escape from our everyday routines that become so common to us. But, what if there was an animal that already possesses the power of immortality? While it sounds far fetched, it might actually be true. The Immortal Jellyfish Have you ever heard of Turritopsis nutricula? Well, probably not, because that sounds quite difficult to pronounce. However, that's the name of a species of jellyfish that has the ability to possibly live forever. How Can It Live Forever? This is going to be kind of scientific, so bear with me. The Turritopsis nutricula, once sexually mature, has the ability to revert back its' polyp state through cell transdifferentiation. Simply put, cell transdifferentiation is when the jellyfish transforms its' cells into a different, younger type. Think of it like this - A big jellyfish with lots of tentacles sucks itself into itself and becomes a small ball again. This process can theoretically happen indefinitely, making the Turritopsis nutricula win the title of "The Immortal Jellyfish". Although, it's believed that most die from disease or natural predators during the plankton stage. Like other jellyfish, the Turritopsis nutricula is asexual, meaning it can reproduce without a mate. When sexually mature, it can literally reproduce hundreds of identical copies of itself, all of which possess the same cell transdifferentiation ability as the original. Some marine biologists are saying there's a worldwide epidemic of these jellyfish taking over.

Precisely like the engineers asexual... And in this instance we haven't been visited by the species but perhaps only one engineer ....yes i know their were other in the footage we have not seen..therefore we do not know there relationship to engineer messiah ... Lets speculate then that being exiled on a backwater planet was a pinishment..that's why they were coming to earth ..to enforce the law...

Nice idea Kay, but its stated in the film that we are are virtually identical to the Engineers on a genetic level, we are the children/clones of the Sacrificial Engineer, therefore it is safe to assume that there are/were female Engineers, and that they are dimorphic, not asexual.

Was that the species of hominid..or.....to say the generic dna that binds all the species of earth?

@ Kay, In the film they run a DNA test on a sample of the dead engineers head, the results of which show a 99% match with that of human DNA. Combine that with FACT with the visual fact that they are approximately 99% identical to us physically, I think its safe to say the film is clearly saying that we are the descendants/children/evolutionary engineered clones of the Sacrificial DNA. And regards hominids, as in apes - our closest primate relative, the Chimpanzee only shares 97% of our DNA.

Hmm some good evidence there snorky... But just imagine from the engineers point of view.. You've been in hibernation for 2 millennia ...and finally your awakened.. you emerge from your sarcophagus....and are greeted by some strange aliens that sort of look like you..one say's that they require more life...you don't know that their life cycle is not like yours...so you destroy them...so their body's healing mechanism kick in...so their cells can re constitute to a more juvenile state of each being.. Then you go to see the strange small one....

I think the OP has overlooked something really really important here...If "Corporal" means Over-bearing or what I think it does than NO because we clearly see one beating the crap put of several Humans at the end. And what has to be yet another trying to Kill shaw!

Not saying the deacon is a juvenile engineer because quite clearly it is another species.. But if you think about re incarnation, ressurection myth...then the gods/makers/engineers must have some conection.. And i like the idea of the engineers being able to rebirth themselves to earlier version..and perhaps their is a transitional stage fits into our monotheistic belief that god is a non coporeal force.. Because the ancient humans would have believed this seeing the engineers die and re incarnate themselves.
